I am reading Graduation Day by Joelle Charbonneau, and I am on page 268. To this point, the book is about a teenage girl who passes The Testing and progresses onto the university where she is faced with multiple challenges. During these tests, she must decide who to trust and what the right solution is. A wrong answer could mean death not only for her but for her country too. In this paper, I will be predicting and connecting. G- predicting Y- Cia will kill Barnes R- President/ end testing R- Dr. Barnes says to Y- Zeen is dead R- Symon is in the house R- Zeen doesn’t answer calls G- Cia kills Barnes and Zeen is dead I foretell that Cia will kill Dr. Barnes based off of many reasons. I can connect to the book because just like the main character, Cia, I live in a small town. In her town, all of the citizens know each other. I can link this to my life because anywhere I go in my town I encounter someone I know. Another way I can relate to her is because both of our towns have condensed and spread-out areas. In her town, she lives on the outskirts where less people live, but there is also an area within her town that is very crowded with people and buildings. My town is similar in design to hers because there are areas of people that are separated or distant from other places and there are closer and connected areas too. Alongside that, I can also connect to this book because I have a twin just like Will. In the book, Will and his twin brother, Dill, are always together and making jokes. Likewise, my twin, Anna, and I know each other so well, its hard not to be happy in each other’s presence. In mind of that, I can also connect to the book because I know how hard it is to be away from my twin. In the story, Will is boiling with rage to hear that his brother did not pass The Testing and is being redirected away from him. It takes him days of lashing out before he is calm enough to regain his composure. I can relate to him because it is difficult for me to be away from my sister, especially for a long period of time like Will and his brother. As has been noted, I can
Through reading my novel Raw for the last 3 weeks, I have struggled to make a personal connection to the reading material. I couldn't say that my life has involved me robing a liquor store or being sent to a rehab farm in the middle of a rural countryside in Sydney. In fact, my life is quite different from Brett’s. Brett is the main character in Raw. He is a troubled 16 year old that dropped out of school not too long ago. Because of this, I would classify Brett as a rebel. The character of Brett relates to a person in my life that grew up a reckless teenager, and has now evolved into a kind gentlemen and a proud father. This man that he reminds me of is my uncle. They are quite similar because as the story goes, Brett was a wild teenager that made out to be untameable but Sam (the warden of the farm), saw deep down that he is a good kid. In the end he pulled his head into line and picked up a lot of essential life skills from the rehab farm.
Throughout the book I felt connected to one character, that character was George. George and I share similar qualities and our lifestyles can relate. One major characteristic I found in George is his ability
During the Holocaust, many townspeople were aware of the events occurring within the concentration camps. In the book, Night by Elie Wiesel, the townspeople remained complacent with the Nazis. Some people even went as far as taunting the Jews when they were transported through towns. The Nazis during that time had a very strong influence and used fear to incite citizens to remain cooperative.
“Washington… was a ‘promised land’ to many a freeman… it was the capital of the nation– that is, of the North that had set them free.”
The book Nineteen Minutes ended with an shocking conclusion. In the scene Peter Houghton had just finished shooting his way through the school, when he encountered his old best friend Josie Cormier and his long-time bully Matt Royston in the locker room of the high school gym. When Peter held up his gun to shoot Matt, Josie screamed which startled Peter, and made him drop his backpack which caused another gun to fall out of his bag. The gun skittered across the floor and Josie grabbed the gun and pointed it at Peter while Matt cowered behind her. In this moment Josie had the decision to either shoot Peter or let him kill Matt and possibly her. Shocking the two boys and herself Josie turns around and shoots Matt in th stomach instead. As
The senior year, a year that has many faces. With only one year of school a student can possibly learn so much, but is this statement still true when it is senior year? Senior year is infamous for being the lazy year, and often many students have fallen prey to senioritis or a lack of motivation. As a senior myself, the thought about if senior year is necessary has been on my mind.
I haven’t wondered what it would be like to be a sixteen-year-old kid and kill people for a living. This book explains it perfectly though. In the beginning of my book Ben (I will refer to him as Ben because we don’t know his real name yet and it is his fake name later in the book) goes into a different friend’s dad because he was told to. Later in the book Ben is given the task to kill the mayor of New York. Connecting The James Bond theme to Ben, Hit me with your best shot to Sam, and Domo arigato Mr. Roboto to Ben.
It was an awesome book by Enid Blyton. This book is set in Scotland and certainly has a Scottish feel to it, with its mountains, castles and golden eagles, though the country is not specified until The Mountain of Adventure, when Jack recalls observing an eagles' nest at a castle in Scotland. It is the Easter holidays and Jack, Philip, Dinah and Lucy-Ann are on holiday with Mrs Mannering at Spring Cottage, which is set on a hill below a castle. Out on the hillside they meet Tassie, a local girl who lives in a tumble-down cottage with her mother and is allowed to run wild. Tassie cannot read or write but has a deep knowledge of animals and the countryside. She is excellent at climbing, sure-footed and has a good sense of direction, relying on
acts young people should have in their life. The Search Institute released these in 1990. John is lacking restraint, family support, and school engagement; the absence of these assets affect his life by not helping him grow and get the things he needs to become successful.
Her domestic landscape shapes her. Her connection to her mother makes her a kinder and appreciative person while her disconnectedness to her father makes her rebellious but also more resilient. The tone towards her mum is much more positive and warm while towards her dad it is colder. This shows the difference that the level of connectedness can make on an individual’s identity. I will compare her story to her cousins, whose father being the older brother of the dad grew up the same way. His story is however different, he perceives the disconnectedness as a threat, whereas the girl perceives is a thing that just happens. Even though living with a similar father figure, the ways that two grow up is different. She is more optimistic and laidback while the cousin becomes more timid and afraid of other people. The way she writes about is quite incoherent, writing anything that pops into her head, symbolising the disconnectedness she has with her father. However when she talks about her mothers its smoother and connected. The way she thinks and talk about her father shows the rebellious streak she has developed.
I can relate to a character from the novel Tears of a Tiger to my own life. For example In the chapter “DEAR LORD” B.J’s Prayer, On page fifteen it says “Andy and Rob and Tyrone all knew that i didn't drink.” ”They never really bothered me about it.” Also the author states “Maybe I shoulda tried to stop them that night” B.J. Was the good kid in the group so he feels guilty for not saying or doing anything. I can relate to B.J in the story. One night a couple of cousins and I went to a party knowing their would be alcohol there. All of my cousins were drinking and trying to get me to drink but I did not. I knew if I drank my grandad would find out someway, because he finds out everything I really do not know how. I was trying to get them to
Senior year! Every senior is eager for graduation, their making college decisions, taking their SAT tests, getting senior portraits, and looking forward to getting ready for graduation day. Thinking back now, almost every adult told me my high school years would fly by, they were right.
“As a teenager, people often underestimate me”(Zadoff 12). The book I am the weapon is about a teenager who ends up in the “program” as a teenage assassin. He has to kill the New York mayor with only five days to do it. He tries to get close to his daughter to be able to get to her dad. I will be predicting, evaluating, and visualizing.

This class, UWP 104FY, has lead me to realize the areas I struggle in and how I overcame those struggles. When I entered this class, I lacked practice with writing and was unable to adjust my habits to accommodate the flow of this course. I had not written an essay, except for research papers, since my fall quarter of freshman year. It was especially hard for me to adjust my time to account for all the activities in the class. Since the course is a hybrid course, I only had one face-to-face meeting with the class. Half of the class requires self-pace and constant checking of what needed to be accomplished. With my initial abilities, I was unable to excel in the course. However, as the course progressed, I was able to change some of my
