When I first applied for this class at the end of my junior year of high school, my intentions were to obtain the experience and knowledge I would need for college next year. I wanted to be as prepared as possible to face the new challenges coming my way. I did not want to find myself struggling to write multiple papers for multiple classes in a limited amount of time. I decided Dual Enrollment would be my best bet; and obtaining some college credit wouldn’t hurt either.
I strongly believe I have achieved the goals I set for myself. The evidence is presented in this portfolio which includes a collection of papers I wrote throughout the year. These pages display my hard work, struggles, and improvements. Although there are still improvements to be made, I am quite satisfied with the progress I have made.
Writing each paper was a journey on its own. My favorite was the narrative essay.
Although it wasn’t my best paper, I really enjoyed writing it. It was the least difficult to write because the topic was about me. I enjoyed retelling the story of the most incredible adventure I took part in. I used a big portion of my narrative in my college essay during application season. I cleverly titled my narrative “Wanderlust”, meaning a strong desire to travel.
The expository paper was basically a book report, but it was also enjoyable. I’m glad I chose to read Pride and Prejudice because I don’t think I would have ever read it on my own time and it was a good book. My expository essay
These extensive papers was what helped focus my writing ability to form a better end result. The practice proved necessary in composing a quick but impactful on demand essay. The grade I desired first semester was not accomplished, but that inspired me to strive to do even better the second semester. What I did to make my second research paper great, would have to be replicated even more, with some refinement. Maybe my grade was better because I knew the material more thoroughly. It could’ve been a possibility that I took better notes. Maybe it was just more consistent good grades. It might have even been I a better writer under the pressure of a time
Nine years ago, I never could have imagined I’d be writing this essay. I was a senior in high school, and, like the rest of my classmates, I was apprehensive about the future. Unlike my classmates, I felt like I had missed the proverbial “you need to get your life together” message. I watched my classmates apply to colleges, their majors already decided and their future careers mapped out. While I was an above average student, I felt I lacked the decisiveness my classmates seemed to have. I did not feel passionate about a career or even a field of study. I felt defective. This was compounded by the financial strain I knew attending college would have on my family. It seemed wasteful to try to “find my passion” at school while squandering

At the end of my sophomore year, I had to make one of three choices, the first one being I could simply stay in my high school and continue on the path that I was going. The second one being I could go to a technology center for half of the school day, and the third being I could do concurrent enrollment and start taking college courses early. I made the
When I entered senior year, I entered with a “get in- get out” mentality, enrolling in the minimum amount of classes with a majority of them having to do with business and I also joined FBLA. Through FBLA I was able to become “Assistant School Store Manager” and little did I know that it would actually be a great learning experience that I have been able to continue for most of this school year. In November,
When writing a paper it can be very difficult unless you break it up into sections. When I had to write my first paper I felt like a man on a desert island all alone without a clue on how to do anything. But with the help of a few teachers they taught me how to survive on the island of writing papers. What the teachers taught me was that just like everything in life it needs to be taken in steps. The steps they taught me still apply to the papers I write to this day.
Throughout my writing experience there have been many papers that I enjoyed writing and many that I did not. The writing experience that is the most memorable to me is in my freshman year of high school at University High School in Orange City, Florida. I wrote a short story called "Speech to Roseanne". This story was about a young southern female teenager who was just starting high school. During the previous summer time, she had a major dispute that happened between herself and best friend, Roseanne. This dispute carried over to the start of their freshman year in high school. In the end of the story, despite the fact that Roseanne tried to apologize for the comments she made about Mel Bell's family, Mel Bell could not get past what her formal

I decided to pick the first paper of the semester which was the Literacy Narrative. In this paper I learned how develop my thesis. I used the xyz form that I was taught this year to make my thesis more clear and able to understand. This was a major problem I faced coming into this year. I’ve gradually become better in this area taking
I began my journey of writing on May 7, 2017 when I began taking English 1301 at Texas State Technical College. When entering the course, I did not feel that the course was relevant to complete my educational journey. Writing was not one of my strongest points, so this journey was a difficult one. During the course I learned how to better prepare myself for writing and composing assignments, how to construct an outline, proper sentence structure, and punctuation. I feel this journey will better prepare me for continuing my education and help me to communicate better as a professional.
Over the past few months, I have learned several different writing techniques. While all of the different types of papers were difficult to write, I believe that my writing skills have improved. In fact, I did not understand all of the assignments, but I did try to do my best on all of them. While I should have used more transitional words in between sentences and paragraphs, I feel that I learned a great deal. It is true that I have not had very much writing experience and the writing process is difficult for me. Sometimes, I do admit, it takes days to complete one assignment, but it will be worth it when I am a proficient writer.
Over the course of this semester each paper that was written helped to introduce me and my fellow classmates to different formatting, and genres of writing. A lot of knowledge was gained from writing these papers and I was able to compare and contrast the disciplinary writings and notice what makes each of them stand out. Reflecting back on these individual papers helps to express what I have learned.
