The four years I spent in high school were a breeze. I hardly studied and when I did it wasn 't more than an hour. Making all A’s was as easy as pie. I never had to try; however, college was a whole other story. My teachers no longer babied me and I started to struggle to make even a B let alone an A.Student Success has been an eye opening experience that has made me realize I need to step up my game in order to survive college. This class has taught me how to succeed during my years in college. There are many things Student Success showed me that helped me during this first semester, but the four things that were most influential were Time Management, Memory Skills, Test Taking Skills, and Study Skills. Time Management was extremely helpful for me. Before college and before I took Student Success I never even thought about how I could arrange my day and time in order to be the most efficient I could. I would forget about my homework and even some tests. Most days I would play games or watch anime before my homework, and by the time I got started on it, it would already be ten or eleven at night and I would stay up till twelve or one finishing up. My memory has always been a problem that I could never fix. I could learn something one day and the next I wouldn’t even be able to tell you what I had for dinner that night. This may just have to do with the fact that I didn’t have a proper way to study and memorize the information, or maybe I just had a difficult time retaining
As a new freshman at the University of Evansville, time management stands as a recurring challenge of mine. Between taking 15 credit hour classes, which consist of three honors courses, working and studying, my time to live is pretty much gone. Since being in DISC 110 Student Success Strategies, which I found crazy at first to even be in, I have learned strategies to successfully manage my time management challenges to ensure I stay on track each semester and for the rest of my academic career.
At the end, this article was straightforward and contained simple steps of success in time management. I liked how simple and organized this article was. I am certainly going to try to implement these strategies in my daily life. I struggle every day with managing my time and this article really helped me out. I look forward to learning more skills and advancing my
Before my admission to Houston Community College, I was lost on how to succeed in my courses. However, my admission to this institute exposed me to different courses which educated me on different lessons on how not only to survive in college, but also how to succeed in my classwork. There are two main lessons that I wish to pass on to other students on how they can flourish in their courses.
Primarily, before I was able to use my time management skill to benefit my academic success as a student at Miami this term, I had to follow certain procedures. The first thing I did in the beginning of this semester was that I created a, To Do, list to help me identify a few items and the reasons for doing them. I create these lists every Sunday to guide me through my weeks of school. The first thing in the list is to make sure I go to sleep on time, so I can wake up on time and arrive on time in class every day. Another method I follow is the daily and weekly planner which helps me writing down my appointments, classes’ times, and meetings’ times on a
To my fellow college classmates, I'm going to set you guys up for college success. The very first thing to college success is showing up, you need drive and motivation to push yourself through college. Not all days will be stunning but if you’re going to make through college you will need have the desire to exceed. Next thing for college success is taking responsibilities for yourself, you need make sure that you have all component’s you need for yourself successful in your own system. Another thing for college success taking notes in class, not all classmates love this, but it will make you recognize important subjects that your class is trying to teach you. Great notes will make your class a lot easier for you exceed and working you get that
For me, being able to manage my time wisely is a must. Every week I have a schedule that I try to stay as close too as possible. The problem is most of the time something happens to throw me off schedule and I find myself playing catch up. If I didn’t have the schedule already in place then I would never get anything done. “ the first step toward more effective time management is to increase awareness of its value” (Lucco, 1994). Time management is a lot easier in my private life because my family understands what I am trying to accomplish. Everyday I start my assignments at 4:30 and finish at 7:30 with no distractions. They understand that if I work during the week we can play on the weekends.
My first improvement this semester has been learning how to manage time. Juggling over five college classes can be difficult, especially when it comes to turning in all assignments on time. The key to earning a good grade is learning how to manage your time efficiently. I used a daily planner to help organize my thoughts, plans, study times, and out of school activities. This way I always knew exactly what I had to be doing and always had enough time to study or to turn in assignments. Before discovering the
ADHD and Dyslexia have made me great at time management. I try to get assignments handed in on time, and complete tests with the limit allotted. Not to mention, I would use a timer when doing assignments, this would help me in setting a goal for myself to get my assignments done as efficiently as possible.
I feel stress with constantly being on a time schedule, but if I could manage my time more efficiently my performance in my class will improve. Understanding myself like how I learn best and having the right mind set will also develop a better study skill and performance. Learning doesn’t come easy for me but if I could figure out my best learning strategy I will definitely acquire better grades and I might even notice additional time in my schedule. Becoming a better student takes time but being committed to these improvements will make a difference in my academic
Time management techniques are essential to living your life more efficiently. Many people spend their days in a frenzy of activity but achieve very little because they are not concentrating on the right things. By using time management skills, you can learn to determine which of the things you do are important, which can be dropped, use your time in the most effective way possible, break down the roadblocks that waste it, and increase the effectiveness.
I have poor attitudes towards managing time, such as managing time to study. Developing effective study habits is important as they will help me to use my study time more productively and will also help to handle stress. Therefore, learning some effective memory techniques, developing a good support network and working with other class members will enhance our study habits (Anthony, 2012). So it is important for me to make an action plan about time
Time management is how to handle objectives within the time limit given. Just like a balanced diet, if there is an over excess of one thing it will lead to complications later. Actions such as watching too much television will put off schoolwork; while, overworking can lead to problems were family and friends are regarded. There needs to be a routine that checks off everything on your to-do list, including social and free time. On one hand, certain people have less difficulty managing their time. While on the other, there are people who must go through great lengths to achieve their goals. Daily Egyptian talks to Barb Elam, a stress management coordinator, about the issues college students face with time management. She states that reasons such as time management and procrastination are leading students to seek help for greater academic success. The solution to solve this varies from person to person. However, a start is as simple as keeping a daily schedule. The schedule should include everything such as; homework, meals, tv programs, work, class, exercise, volunteer work everything you would need to get done that day. Writing this down helps the brain
After managing my issues, I needed to work on how to manage my time. Since elementary school, I struggled at managing my time. I would usually finish all my homework after midnight. As a result, I would either sleep in class or come to school late. My family was frustrated about this and did not want me making school harder for myself, so they taught me ways to manage my time. As a result, I managed to learn how to manage my time.
Time management is the key thing of successful. I am not good in managing time because I don’t organize my study time carefully and not use my time wisely during work. I always leave everything until the last minute, and sometimes I do unimportant things like playing games, surfing internet and watching movie, but actually I know there a lot of work to finish off. I get to the bottom of this crisis and try to systematize my study and set up my work. I make a schedule of revision, and I put a date where I need to complete the schoolwork. I also make a small target, for example, I want to understand the concept of heat transfer by the end of this week, and I have to achieve it no matter what. I
I have learned so much in this class to prepare me for a successful college experience. There were some topics that caught my attention more than others. Such as, time and stress management, University resources, and critical thinking.
