Having a Bachelor’s, in addition to my years of experience, makes me eligible to be promoted to an Operations Manager, or a Director at my current job. I can also be a Billing Manager at a hospital. All of which are careers I am interested in. The final plan in my academic future is to earn my Master’s Degree in Social Work. After completion of my Master’s, I can pursue the career of my dreams, a Hospice Social Worker.
REFLECTIONS OF TOPICS IN CLASS
I have learned so much in this class to prepare me for a successful college experience. There were some topics that caught my attention more than others. Such as, time and stress management, University resources, and critical thinking.
Time and Stress Management
How I manage time is a reflection of what I value. Managing my time corresponds to how successful I will be in college and throughout life. Knowing and setting priorities to meet goals, carrying out plans, taking control of time, and staying focused are some events that are involved with time management. For many of us, balancing school with work and family is the greatest challenge involved with prioritizing. Good advance planning will help in meeting these challenges. Staying focused is usually difficult, especially for first-year students. Staying focused entails remembering and dedicating to the most important purpose for being in college. Sacrificing unnecessary commitments and keeping my
Self- Discipline and scheduling effectively are critical factors when it comes to successfully managing your time. Having self-discipline is a vital necessity, when you are preparing for college success. Deciding to study for an important exam, or hanging out with friends, will need to be carefully decided. If you chose the obvious, Studying, you'd eliminate unwanted stress like, cramming days before the exam. Being self-Disciplined means you have control over your behavior and you do not make decisions on impulse, instead you make your decisions logically. Accomplish everything you can complete today and do not put it off for tomorrow. Creating an effective schedule will be a helpful tool when it comes to your college success. In order to plan
Former first lady Abigail Adams once said, “the habits of a vigorous mind are formed in contending with difficulties” (Billmeyer, 2009, p. 115). The number of adults pursuing a college degree is constantly increasing with each passing year. Unlike younger college students fresh out of high school, adult learners are not only trying adjust to going back to school, but they must learn to balance their studies with other responsibilities in their lives such as their family and jobs. Knowing how to manage time wisely is an intricate tool for an adult attending college. Some helpful tips include prioritizing, planning ahead, making to-do lists, and avoiding procrastination.
Time is a critical factor which influence student’s entire lives. To be successful in college depends on how students organize and prioritize things. According to the University of Wisconsin “Green Bay: Managing Time for Success in College” tutoring services tells, “Time is one of our resources. Effective time management is a skill most people need to make the most out of their personal and professional live. To college students, it can make the difference between a mediocre and superior performance.” Many students experience troubles coordinating tasks with their time; consequently, they have poor academic performance. However, students need to realize time, they have to learn this skill, so they will be able to improve their grades, having more time to do their homework, prepare for their next classes and they can deal everyday with different tasks. Gutierrez, claims, “Time management is the perfect solution to help students stay focus, so the earlier students manage their time the easier school gets... but most importantly, what time management does is allow to get their work done in a fashionable time.” All students that take advantage of these tutoring programs learn how to create a schedule plan for all activities they have, including personal. Students achievement also depend on how dedicated and disciplined they are, colleges offer support for all students who need to improve their
While college students run low on food and money, they also run low on time. How can students balance their time when there never seems to be enough of it available? That is when the first solution comes into play, prioritizing. Managing your academic work should come first when it comes to prioritizing your time. “Even though students may have a million other things going on, it is important for them to remind themselves of why they are in college in the first place, to graduate” (“Learn”). Students have three categories of priorities: essential, important, and optional. Your grades, health, and laundry fit into essentials. If you know you are going to have a busy week, you may want to get everything out of the way early. Freeze meals in a fridge, therefore you will not have to leave your dorm and waste time getting take-out. Wash your laundry on a Saturday, and while you wait for the spin cycle to start, you can study. Major assignments can be broken
Time management is needed in order for me to succeed not only in this course but through my field of study. Before I started school, I already had a tight schedule between my family and work. Since I have decided to go to back to school, I had to rearrange my schedule to put school in the equation. As far as leisure time, I take the time out for that when available. In order for me to meet the course requirements, I have a few time management strategies that I use. The strategies I use are keeping a calendar, organizing and planning, setting boundaries, and sometimes I have to turn down doing things that will put me off schedule. If I am not able to manage my time, I will lose focus on what it is that I am suppose to be doing.
Having strong time management skills are an essential for a successful career in college. Time management skills aren’t common sense you have to learn from mistakes to build your skills. From juggling homework, practice, and work I’ve build a good knowledge on how to manage my time. It's not easy but sometimes you have to sacrifice a day with your
Managing time is essential to be successful today as an adult student. The balancing of personal time and business is key. Whether you prefer to take online courses or stay in the classroom, applying yourself and taking pride in your work is still important. Pick what is right for you, having little time might make you look into online courses. Success using time management skills will give you a sense of accomplishment and will help you accomplish your goal of graduating your course. Stay flexible and don’t forget to use these tools. Stay ahead of your assignments and due dates.
Successful college students ensure they know how to manage their time. Establish some priorities, make a list. Some things are not as essential as others. Some of these things can be delegate or moved to the side. Taking the time to develop a plan in order to avoid procrastination. Finding a way to identify the amount of time needed to study and complete course work lets you identify any way time could be misused and could cause delays in your study sessions.
I observed my sister manage her time between going to school, having my niece, fighting morning sickness, and still having a social life in her graduation semester at Florida A&M University. I couldn't understand how she could do so much and still finish the semester with a 3.5. It was then I realized that to succeed in college or anything you do, you have to manage your time wisely. It was my first semester and I spent most of my time playing the video game and being on the phone while watching television. I would wait until the last-minute to complete my assignments and didn't finish sometimes until it was almost time to go to class. My poor time management had reflected in my grades and now I know to better organize things. You don't learn the material if you do things
How has Service, Scholarship, Leadership, and Fellowship influenced my educational experience? To be truthful, these Hallmarks didn’t really register with me until my second time around in college. Before, I spent most of my time trying to find myself, or what major I wanted to be in and then finally making sure that I completed all the required classes so that I could finally earn my college degree. I was the first person to go to college in my family. I wanted to make something of myself and still do.
Time management is the key to success in college. Being a college student is no less than a full time job. It is important to prepare a weekly schedule that includes studies, classes, extra curricula’s, food and of course fun time with friends.
People say once you graduate college to prepare yourself for the real world ahead of you. Going to college was the real world I was eager to experience after high school. The ability to be more independent and give the courage I already have to others surrounded around me. Attending Montclair State University has helped me recognize both my strengths and weaknesses throughout my college experience. Without those setbacks, I wouldn’t have been able to learn different approaches in order to be successful. These top ten lessons focused on preparation skills, communication, and passion.
College is nothing like I expected. College can either be fun or boring, it is just how people make it. The expectations for college were stressful, overwhelming, time consuming, and being responsible to do the work. I hear people talking about staying up late doing homework and talking about how hard the tests are. People always said that college is very stressful and the professors are mean, but it is not like that at all. The experience is everything in college. Talking to people, most of them say they loved the experience in college. The parties, free food, the people, and classes have made my college experience nothing like I expected.
Learning to budget time and to use it well is a skill that many students don’t learn until they’re in college or in their actual careers. Yet knowing how to handle numerous responsibilities helps students prepare for the academic vigor of college.
I must admit that the thought of going off to college for the first time, made me a little bit nervous. Would my roommate and I get along, would I make new friends, would I find my way around campus, get to the right classrooms, and grades? Some of my most memorable moments have been meeting my roommate and making new friends. Not only have I met a number of new friends in the dorm, but also in my classes. Together, my new friends and I were soon able to find our way around campus and to the classrooms. College life has been such a great experience, because of all of the new friends that I have made, along with the independence it has created in me.
