The civil war was based on mostly greed on the south's part the north's was more morally driven seeing that what the south was doing to people was inhumane. Yes the north was making huge profits from the southern plantations owners but i think that says a lot about north that although they were making money of the salves just like the south they still saw that it was not right what they where doing to the
Although the American Civil War mainly occurred because of slavery, the fact is that slavery had a lot to do with economic and social issues.
The causes of most wars are often very complex, but in the America civil war it came down to two major issues, slavery and the protection of the Union. In the North, they were growing richer all the time as industry developed fast. The workers were mostly immigrants with low wages. The South didn’t have these resources, and the slaves were essential for them. The Northern politicians insisted that the Slavery should be abolished and that this was an evil system that should be stamped out. Only the rich wool farmers and other wealthy

The civil war had a large sum of effects on the American economy during and after the war proper. Firstly, the war stimulated the development of several instrumental inventions, and caused need for widespread use of many creations currently around. These innovations included many weapons, as well as new medical techniques and railroads. Secondly, the civil war took slaves away from the south, which were an integral part of the southern agricultural business. Lastly, the Civil War cost a large amount of money, which put America at a monetary deficit, further stimulating the economy.
The South heavily relied on slavery to keep their economy stable, although not their only source of money, but by abolishing slavery and making it illegal it would damage their economy quite badly. And so this caused a lot of tension between the North and South because they were very different economically. The South is much more agricultural, and is reliant upon exports as well. The North on the other hand is in complete contrast to the South. The North industrialised very fast and many people of poor background and some African-American succeeded and made a lot of money. It isn't very clear that if they had lived in the South if they could have achieved this much success, but those in the North faced a lot less discrimination compared to the South. "Because the economics of the dynamic industrializing North and the static agrarian South were incompatible, the two societies were on a collision course that led inexorably to war" (http://civilwartalk.com/threads/historians-evolving-views-of-civil-war-causality.21223/) Many historians agree that this was not a major cause. According to economic historian Lee A. Craig, "In fact, numerous studies by economic historians over the past several decades reveal that economic conflict was not an inherent condition of North-South
The north and the Abraham Lincoln argues that the main reason for the civil war was the slavery, whereas, the South and the confederate state reasoned that the main causes of the war is the state 's right and also southerners claimed that they are being treated unfair on the federal tariff and taxes. The southerners wanted to secede from the Union and preserve their right and the northerners wanted to keep the Union from breaking as well as they want to abolish slavery. The Civil War, or the "War between the states," was fought on both moral and economic grounds. On the most unique and modern war the world have ever seen, the north won the civil war because of their regional advantages, population advantages, the better strategic approach towards war and the support from the president.
Slavery was the main cause of the Civil War. The economies of the North and the South were very different. The South relied heavily on the plantations, factories and slaves for their incomes while the north relied more on its ports and trading for their economy. When the north wanted to end slavery, the south saw it as the north destroying their
One of the main differences of the economy were the railroads. The North had more railroads than the South because they used the railroads to transport medicines, soldiers, clothes, utilities, weapons, and foods during the war. In Document 1, the top map shows how the north had railroads going from different states and extending more. While, the South had a few railroads. In Document 2, the North’s railroad mileage was better since they did rely mostly on public transportation than the south did. Another difference was that the North was based on industrialization while the South was based on agriculture. In Document 1, the map on the bottom shows that the south’s main production was cotton. In Document 2, the graphs show that the North had 73% more population than the South who only had 27% of the population. The south had 88% more of slaves while the North had only had 12% of slaves. The North 1,300,000 industrial workers while the south only had 110.00 industrial workers. The North’s value of manufacturing goods yearly was over the south’s yearly value. The south instead relied on produce such as cotton while the north did not. Both used corn but the north produced it more than the south. These events caused the civil war to start because both had different economic
Slavery was merely one of the causes of the Civil War. Some historians argue that the political difference between the North and the South is a more influential cause of the Civil War while some insist that economic is the main cause. In fact, the political division between the North and the South was affected by the differences in the economic system of both. The North and the South had had different economic backgrounds that were established since the American colonial period. These economic differences from the colonial period brought about the political division that was based on preserving each other’s own wealth or property and eventually caused the Civil War.
The Confederacy has several reasons that they use to try to justify their attempt at seceding from the United States of America. They claim it was over state’s rights, or cultural differences, or any other reason. However, the biggest cause of secession and ultimately war was money. The North was shackling the South with outrageous taxes and tariffs, which finally reached a boiling point.
Economically, the Civil War was not a contest between equals. The South had no factories to produce guns or ammunition, and its railroads were small and not interconnected, meaning that it was hard for the South to move food, weapons and men quickly and over long distances. In addition, though agriculture thrived in the South, planters focused on cash crops like tobacco and cotton and did not produce enough food to feed the southern population. The North, on the other hand, had enough food and enough factories to make weapons for all of its soldiers. It also had an extensive rail network that could transport men and weapons rapidly and cheaply. At first, this superiority of the North didn't seem to make much of a difference; like many wars
The Civil War between the North and South was the result of two cultures that economically, morally, and legally clashed on almost all levels. The steadily growing conflict between the two parts of the union makes it hard to pinpoint the origin or the cause of the resulting war. The conflict arose from a nation thats geographical areas had slowly grown apart in their ideals and also their source of income, which is often the cause of strife between battling regions. This rift driven between the two areas gradually increased from one state disagreeing with the other in policy to an imaginary line drawn, dividing the nation into the North and the South. Measures were taken in order to try and close this divide but were unsuccessful because
The North, in 1861, had a lot more advantages than the South. The North had twice as much railroads compared to the South. The railroads were used for transportation for troops, food, and other supplies. The North also, had twice as much factories. These factories were used for ammunition, shoes, and guns. The banks in the North had far more money than the South. Two thirds of the nation lived in union states. That’s about 22 million people compared to 9 million in the south. Patriots in the North also, had strong opinions about slavery. They said “This is a cause to die for...” this meaning they are willing to fight as well. The North also, had some weaknesses during the start of the war too. North had to enter the south. This land was unfamiliar
Of the seven deadly sins, the one that has plagued the United States the most throughout its history is greed.. Greed -- i.e., "the excessive desire to possess wealth or goods with the intention of keeping it for oneself." – can be seen in 1614, when Thomas Hunt sailed to Spain from his expedition in America with a ship packed with Patuxet Indians, bound to be sold into slavery. It can also be seen in 1773 as a major factor of the Boston Tea Party, where King George III was yearning for more control over colonial governments and hungry for the revenue from it. Greed can also be seen in 1830 during the Indian removal act, where President Andrew Jackson (backed by many other white Americans) signed a law that forced the five
The Civil War, often referred to as The War of the Southern Rebellion, was one of the bloodiest battles in the history of the United States, causing over 600,000 deaths. Although there were several causes which led up to this brutal war, one of the major causes was due to conflict between the northern and southern states over the expansion of slavery and sectionalism. Both of these geographical locations had drifted apart in their ideal views and ways of life. The south felt slavery was justifiable, and their agrarian economy depended upon slave labor. Meanwhile, the north forbade slavery and relied more upon machine age economy. Nonetheless, massive American casualties occurred over this four year battle, which eventually led to the abolishment
