Greek God Mythology

The Ancient Greeks believed in many gods and heroes during their time. Each one had a sole purpose in a mortal’s lifetime. Greek mythology had a huge impact on religion in Ancient Greece. The Greeks performed rituals in order to honor their gods. Mythology affected the Ancient Greeks in many ways. The origins of mythology, the influences of mythology through a human’s lifetime and lessons taught in the ancient myths will be examined.

When people wonder about Ancient Greece the first thing that comes to their minds is Greek mythology; gods and goddesses that have helped shape many historical events. “In ancient Greece, stories about gods and goddesses and heroes and monsters were an important part of everyday life.” (“Greek Mythology.”) The civilization showed that numerous characters and stories helped shape Greeks. The beliefs the Greeks had with mythologies was they understood the meaning behind all the characters that are known today. However, to the Greeks, they were not just characters, these were their gods and goddesses who gave them meaning and understanding of the world around them. Worshiping the gods and goddesses helped them with their religious rituals and the temperament of the weather. A famous wine-jar that was made during this time period was “Achilles killing the Amazon Queen Penthesilea, 540-530 BCE, black-figured amphora”. (Khan Academy) The civilization that they lived in grew around their worship and achievements.

In my research I have learned an addition of facts and stories about Greek mythology. Like how “the Pegasus and Chrysor came from the blood of Medusa’s head after Perseus cut it off” (Greek Mythology). Or how the “Amazonian group of warriors was all females” (Greek Mythology). The more that I have research about my topic the more fascinating and interesting it becomes. I hope that everyone will further their research and knowledge on this topic whether it’s reading a book, researching on the Internet, or even just watching a movie.

In the Greek civilization, the gods and goddesses were a major influence on the Greeks. The Greek gods and goddesses consisted of the twelve Olympian gods who lived on Mount Olympus. These twelve Olympic gods included the three major gods: Zeus; ruler of the gods; Poseidon, god of the sea; and Hades, god of the underworld. Zeus, Poseidon, and Hades were brothers commonly referred to as “The Big Three” in books such as Percy Jackson, by Rick Riordan, and the Pegasus series, by Kate O’Hearn. They were also sons of the Titan King Kronos.

Zeus was the supreme god of gods and Greeks. He was called Jupiter by the Romans and he received that name because it was believed he had the same powers as the Roman god Jupiter and other people say that his name means bright or sky. His symbols are the eagle, the oak tree, the royal sceptre and the thunder bolt. Originally he was a god of the skies and high heavens and back in the day Greeks thought of him as the only god who concerned himself with the entire universe.

Nike is the daughter of Pallas who is the daughter of Ocean, and Styx, the Titan War Goddess. Nike's siblings are made up of three very important deities when it comes to the Greek Mythology topic. These three important Greek God's And Goddesses include Kratos, the God of Strength, Bia, the Goddess of Force, and Zulus, the God of Zeal.(The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia). Stated by many, Styx had brought his children to Zeus, a very well known God, when he was creating allies or an army for the Titan War in Thessaly, which happened to be a ten year war between the Titan Gods, an older generation of God's, Deities, and Godesses that lived based off the Mountain of Othrys and the Cronus children, which were the younger version of these Deities and God's that lived off of the Mountain of Mount Olympus.(Hamilton,79) Nike's main role in the Greek Mythology society was to give glory to all of the victorious that had come out on top during wars, battles, disagreements, and competition amongst other famous and well known mythological creatures that roamed around during this early time period.(Myths and Legends of the world,Modern Mythology) Nike was not only seen as the goddess of victory in the Roman populations eye's but was also seen as a

Is it just one more coincidence that The Bible teaches that The Antichrist will head up a ten-nation kingdom made up from the old Roman Empire? That The Antichrist himself will eventually become part human and part angel when Satan comes into him? That unregenerate people during the tribulation will long for death and it escapes them? Is it also a coincidence that Donald Trump’s penthouse is full of images and sculptures of Greek/Roman gods?

According to greek mythology Nike is the winged goddess of victory. The goddess sat at the side of Zeus, King of Olympus at Pantheon. When the Greeks would go to war they would say which is a synonym for Honored Conquest.

Nike was name after the Nike goddess. Nike is a famous company known for their athletic footwear and apparel. People tend to wear Nike apparels or shoes during sports activities. People also wear Nike when they are not doing any sports related activities. According to Greek mythology, Nike was the goddess of victory. (GreekMythology.com) She was also known as the “winged goddess”. She had wings and gave glory to the victors. The Nike Company used the goddess name Nike to promote their brand because she represented victory. The company want the buyers to know that their products will make people victorious.

Mythology to society is just ancient past, but essentially it’s not. It’s thriving and very alive. Take a trip to your local mall and check the footwear department of any sporting store and there you’ll find the goddess. The name Nike characterizes the goddess who exemplified victory on the battlefield. In retrospect, if persons were asked the name Nike, Greek mythology is least expected to arise. The name Nike is now renowned as the most iconic brands around the globe. Though, not many people know the story it all began selling shoes from the trunk of a car. The crazy idea that emanated from Phil Knight that grew to become the global phenomenon today. This study will give insight into the creation, growth, and evolution of Nike.
