1. The purpose of the meeting was a community mental health agency the social workers were meeting with co-workers to discuss goals of a possible community outreach. The general atmosphere of the meeting was informal and supportive as two lead social workers Carol and Ellie took on the task to be the facilitators. There were no conflicts observed by members as they seem avoidant and did not seem to want to be there. Both leaders began their introduction well as they talk to the rest of the group about how to educate clients so that they can form healthy relationships. There was a beginning intro, middle but not sure if the end was lacking. Elli did most of the talking as she took the lead role as Carol just occasionally said a few words. Elli did not give all members of the group the opportunity to express their concerns. 2. Individual Member Participation: Only four members of the group actively participated beginning with Michael who monopolized voicing his concerns. He seems a little frustrated with how the meeting was handled. Many of the members were avoidant as they were not engaged in the group meeting. The overall group dynamic was positive as there were no issues observed. The communication was not delivered properly from the facilitators. 3. Ellie to the lead on facilitation of the meeting as Carol was more laid back and let Ellie did most …show more content…
I believed I engaged my leaders as I asked questions that would have helped the pretend group I was helping. Challenges that I experienced were that initially, I was not a hundred percent clear on what my role as group member was. Once I realized what was happening I was able to become better involved in the conversation. Since this is new for me I believe our leader Zenny and Amanda did a great job involving every member of the group. I don’t think I would have changed
After completing the group task of preparing a presentation on, transferring individual facilitation skills into a group work setting I will critically reflect upon my own participation. I will evaluate my self-awareness while working in the group, as well as those around me. The way that I personally dealt with any issues that arose within the group and how that affected the group dynamics. I will also briefly discuss the roles in which each member of the group took and how role allocation affected, the group dynamics and the working relationships. Finally I will evaluate my work having discussed it with my fellow group members.
Community-based support group observation and reaction paper is the first assignment that has to be completed for my class Social Work with Groups. In this assignment, I will discuss how I located the support group of my choice, what I was able to observe in the group session, and feelings or reactions I had during the process. This assignment will give a look into my first experience attending a real-life support group session from the other side of the coin. On this occasion, I was able to experience it from the point of view of a group member and not a facilitator which is definitely a shift in roles. Being able to go through this experience gives me the opportunity to experience a session firsthand and be able to observe and identify
What I found most enlightening about this experience was that what I thought of the meeting was completely different from what it actually is. It was amazing to be in a space where the group members are pouring their hearts out about their experience but also lifting up the ones who are struggling. Despite how different they all are there goal for being in that space was the same, which was to create a supportive environment.
The community meeting of the Oshkosh Museum allowed the observers to look at the: physical environment, social and leader aspects, structure of the meeting, how the group dealt with power issues and apply the knowledge relevant to the current Social Work Generalist Practice class.
This article was very applicable to group practice because it described a positive mutual support group experience and explained why the group was successful. I found it interesting that the members said that the most valuable things the group leader did was help all the members feel included and supported. If I become a group leader as a social worker, this is an important aspect to remember, because the success of the group depends largely on how I encourage participation, help members offer and receive support from each other, and help each member to feel included and a valued member of the
As social workers, we want to learn about how to develop a mutual aid group together. Our group chose to do this in a mutual aid group focused on managing stress, as well as recording group process and development. This group analysis and reflection paper will be based on the description of the participants as well as identifying, describing, and explaining the analyzing of the group processes and key concepts. Included will also be a facilitator’s reflection from my behalf of the third session of the mutual aid group.
Our vision is to be one of the main essential wellbeing suppliers in the zone, extending our administrations to achieve extra group individuals. After that I clarified that this was a stress management group in which the goal is to be able to successfully connect with one another in order to help oneself as we help one another. I confirmed the purposes of the group as a place establish mutual aid and secondly to learn new skills to cope with everyday stress in a more positive yet practical manner. I mentioned the expectations for the group members and myself as facilitator. I went over the importance of confidentiality, respect and limitations of group. I informed what the group should expect of me as the facilitator, and of one another as a group. I stated that because the goal should be to create a safe place to share and talk, any disrespect or attack on one another is destructive and harmful for the groups trust therefore it will not be tolerated. I emphasized that it is a group that belongs to each of the members present, and because of it, all of them have the right to speak what is on their mind. Also, I mentioned how their participation, cooperation and respect is needed otherwise the group will not succeed. I ended this introductive section by asking if anybody wanted to add or say anything regarding that or if we are all in
Throughout the social work field, it is inevitable that workers must be equipped with the skills of sufficient and reliable communication and helping abilities that will allow clients to feel heard and welcomed within an organization. The mandatory dyad sessions which must be completed for this course are extremely helpful because they allow students to take on these roles and implement, first-hand, the theories and approaches that are taught within the readings and class. It is without a doubt that these sessions have really taught all of us that both counselling and being the client is a lot more difficult than it may seem. Within this essay, I will analyze the various aspects of my dyad sessions and how the negative and positive features
I like how you asked everyone about his or her overall experience throughout this group session. Also, how everyone comment on what they have learned from one another and what they can do to continue to make the changes that
Candidate Sutton did not brief the admin/logistics and command/signal sections of his order. However, the other parts of his order were briefed thoroughly and with a good command presence. A detailed orientation proved helpful in quickly orienting his team to the problem. SNC's confidence in briefing translated to the execution with the team making early progress in negotiating the obstacle. When friction points were reached, SNC was able to adjust his plan and maintain control of his team and push them toward the objective. SNC maintained good communication throughout execution by constantly providing direction to his team and by clearly conveying adjustments being made. SNC was mindful enough to pull in his rear security candidate once his
I believe that our group worked well together, but this assignment was a lot harder then I thought it would be. Although there were only 5 members, there were different personalities and ALL members were very opinionated and set in doing things their way. It took a while before synergy and cohesion formed within the group. However, I strongly feel that ALL members were 100% committed to this project and wanted to do the very best job possible. I think this is why there was some conflict (and by that I mean very little) because ALL members were committed and cared about this assignment that much. We all put in the effort to make this project the bets it can be.
Kerrie has used the team collaboration, with her senior management team in resolving the problem of cost reduction. They had meetings where they brainstormed on how they can formulate and choose the appropriate strategies to achieve the cost reduction goal of 15% by the end of the year. As a result, the team has come up with recommendations and strategies on how they can implement them. Most of these involved the development of the account management resources and how they can implement and maintain the smooth flow of the system until such time that they have finally achieved their goals. However, the team understands that there will be resistance from the affected account management team, but they know that the senior management team can do
Mel recognized the issues within the group and began the re-construction process. He seemed to be using two methods to assess the group’s usefulness. Mel used a guided group discussion method to learn about the group’s opinions. He then incorporation a group action method based on the needs of the group members. The facilitator used these methods to guide the groups’ future actions for continuing the group sessions. The group members seemed to be more motivated and committed to working together.
