The type of group that I belong to is in charge of marketing ideas for my employer. As an active member of this particular group, we can be classified as a project team, which can be described as “work groups established for the duration of a specific assignment” (Shockley-Zalabak, 2015, pg. 190). The purpose of our meetings is to prepare marketing ideas and also come up with plans to help promote the company as a whole.
Within my division of people, there are certain task roles, which are defined as “communication roles that help groups accomplish goals” Shockley-Zalabak, 2015, pg. 201). The task roles are assigned by the leader/manager and she typically assigns each person to create different marketing promotions that could benefit the company along with those who are involved. Some examples of the marketing ideas are reaching out to other companies to arrange workshops, partnering with the salvation army to donate clothes to those who are in need, participating in food drives,

It has been stated how “each individual brings to group participation preferences for behavior,” which can mean every person will have different ways of participating in team activities (Shockley-Zalabak, 2015, pg. 208). One of the ways that the leader can keep each person engaged is by “valuing diverse opinions” (Shockley- Zalabak, 2015). Being able to understand alternative views along with supporting disagreements can encourage positive behaviors and in return allow each person to voice their opinions in a positive manner. Another way that the leader can keep others engaged in group activities is by “exhibiting cooperative and open-minded behavior” (Shockley, 2015, pg. 208). If the leader has an open mind about potential ideas from their team members, there is a chance that he or she may learn something new which will aid in the success of the

Trust may be a major issue during the group process. Since the members are female middle school students, the likelihood of them previously being betrayed by a trusted friend is great. It may be difficult for members to trust each other when disclosing personal information. Another issue that may arise is shame. The girls may not fully self-disclose because they are ashamed about the negative self-concept they have of themselves. It also may be difficult to say these negative thoughts about themselves out loud to other people. Hopefully, the fact that they all have some perception of themselves will aid in enabling them to self-disclose with confidence.
I really do not how to explain the current skill level I have when it comes to working in small groups, but I can say that I am reliable, I listen to the leader of the group if there is one, and I have also experienced to become a leader in a group. Everyone has different values and there is no perfect group, so when it comes to teamwork, I always try to be open-minded and positive even if someone contradicts my opinion because I know that all the people in my group and I have a common goal and we only want what is the best for group. I can consider my values as my strength in working in small groups. However, I can say that my weakness is having little patience, particularly for the people that does not care and does not do their work. In my opinion, I rather do the work myself than have other people in the group that are
After completing the quizzes I seen there were more to being a member of a team than just showing up, doing your part, and interacting with others. There is listening to everyone's opinion and valuing them before making a sound decision. Yes, I do that, but does everyone? I do not think so always and this could hurt many people’s feelings. I see from the quizzes I am not a bias person and take everything people say into consideration before I make my last vote. These exercises have made me think about work, work groups, and how they affect others.
This environment was important to my framing and understanding of the project because it forced me to identify a problem in my own approach and perception of the men. One of the elements I like best about this project was its dedication to including the people who know the most about these issues. I appreciate how important the SSYI member's feedback is the process for implementation and how this project is giving lived experience a seat at the table. However I guess I am very used to this method being praised but not practiced and therefore still hold some unfair and misconceptions about what it means to work with people 'on the ground'. I am not someone who believes that academic or formal knowledge is more important or worthy than lived
We are team one, The Life Changers. Our group consists of four amazing women who are on a mission to gain a plethora of knowledge, so that we may have the ability to enhance the lives of others within our communities.
I am a freshman at Clare High School. I am really excited to see if I can get this job. I play basketball, soccer, cross country, and track. I am good at school, working hard, and teamwork. In school I get all A’s. I also work hard in all of my assignments. Team work is a great skill of mine because I have played on a team since I was 6.
Motlow State Community College has recently dealt with some significant obstacles to intergroup collaboration. Motlow has collaborated with three universities to help students earn their Bachelors degree without having to leave the community college. This happened a couple of years ago, but we are continuing to add programs so that our students won’t have to go off to a university since there are many adults in the programs. Each class meets in one of the community college’s classrooms twice a week. According to Hackman and Johnson (2013), “Often the units being asked to work together have previously been in competition with each other for money, staff, facilities, and other organizational resources. The groups may differ in status as well. Take the case of a business acquisition, for instance” (p. 258). This helps intergroup collaboration work together with out-groups as well. Also, it helps combine leaders together. Another significant obstacle to intergroup collaboration would be transfer students. There are two different paths a community college offers. One of these paths is within transferring to a university that is within the Tennessee Board of Regents or the other path
I believe that my group and I worked really well together. We all had different ideas and suggestions that came together to make our presentation. While being able to suggest our opinions to one another, we were also all able to listen to one another which made the group work really well together. We didn’t specifically assign one task to one person. In our group, we would write on one of the topics that we chose on a piece of paper and then pass it to the next person. On that piece of paper, we were able to either start a new point or branch off from someone else’s idea(s). This process seemed to work really well since we were able to get our own ideas out and help each other make each point as strong as possible. For this reason, all of
Assessing complex text in this summer’s English 300 has effectively been achieved with our in-class work groups. We were assigned random small groups consisting of 4 to 5 people to discuss our homework readings and critical thinking answers assigned the previous class. Assigned to these small groups, we are subjected to verbal communication with fellow group members. During small group discussions, we are presented with different opinions, interpretation, and understandings of the text from our readings from each individual group member. Once the material was analyzed and discussed, we gathered for an open discussion in a class circle that required participation of each individual. Having the opportunity to speak openly and expresses individual
In November 2014, our grade 9 class went to go see the grade 11’s perform their dances they created with each other. After the show, on the bus, I remember talking with Isobel about what our grade 11 Arts Court project would be like, thinking grade 11 was so far away. This year, in rehearsals for round 2, all the grade 12’s were talking about how their Dances For Youth By Youth project was probably one of their favorites group compositions they’ve done at Canterbury. Honestly, I was pretty excited to do this group composition. During the creative process and rehearsals leading up to the performances, there were a few rough patches our group (and me individually) went through. For the final performances at the theater, I thought our group came
Roles, needs, and diversity are all key elements to the formation of a successful team, and as such affect the functionality of teamwork. A diversity of experiences and personality types make up the framework of any given group. Additionally, these varying personalities take different roles within the team. For example; some team members may be highly energetic, and thus generates forward movement and energy for other members of group, wherein other roles my include harmonizing the team and therefore may be good at reconciliation for aggressive group members. Still others may offer great insight and information for the team, whilst others dominate the group and participate in the team losing focus. Groups work together best when there is a
Teamwork can be complex and challenging given task and interpersonal issues, level of group motivation and expected performance standards. The concrete experience spoken about in this reflection piece is in reference to the effectiveness of myself as a group member and the group, working to write a report outlining the organisation and structure of Volkswagen. Dennison (2009) applies Kolb’s learning cycle (1981, 1984) which suggests that learning moves through a continuous cycle, between having an experience, and then reflecting on that action. This cycle has been developed from Lewin’s (1951) model for experiential learning. Reflection termed by Boud, Keogh and Walker (1985) ‘is a forum of response to the learner to experience’(p. 18). On reflection, the early set group dynamics was a defining factor in the experience, and how the team conducted themselves throughout the task. Meyerson, Wick and Kramer (1996) note that ‘such rapidly converging groups require methods for developing “swift trust”’ (p. 8), which can explain why initial group dynamics are so important. I took on multiple team roles, including group leader, which could be translated into the team not performing collectively on a high level, however, I could view this as a personal ineffectiveness of my leadership style.
Rate your group (not individuals in the group) and share what factors influenced you picking that number and explain what it would have taken to move you up half a point up the scale.
Key attributes to successfully participation include humility, willingness to listen to others and see their perspectives, and willingness to share your own ideas but not insist they are the best ones. Decisions are a part of everyday life and can be made in a variety of ways, but most of the time they are either made individually or in a group setting. Both individual decision making and group decision making have their pros and cons, and can even determine the type of individual a person is.
