What a growth mindset means to me is that someone has an optimistic outlook on life.
They believe that you can learn from your mistakes and think there is still light in the darkest of events. People with a fixed mindset have more of a static look on their basic abilities or talents. People with this trait do not really want to face their fears and do not thrive in the face of success. Basically, a fixed mindset is the antithesis of a growth mindset. One example in how they differ is a person with a growth mindset will persist in the face of setbacks by practicing more and trying harder to be good at something but on the other hand a person with a fixed mindset may give up if they do not succeed the first time. Growth mindset is how to come to practice on time to lazy to come to practice on time a expect to play in the game. They don’t come to practice on time so they can improve in the game. Dweck gives an example that relates to this. She states, “Michael Jordan said I missed more than a than nine thousand shots after every time he went back and shot the ball a hundred times” (100). Jordan has a growth mindset because he works on his shot a hundred times when he missed his shot. This quote can relate to some players on the football team cause when they make a mistake they practice over and over again, but the ones with a fixed mindset dont even show up to practice. This is even worse when we lose.
On the other hand, people with a fixed mindset see their abilities as stable traits that will not change no matter how much effort is put in. Those with a fixed mindset believe that what you see is what you get, at least regarding abilities. These individuals are less likely to try new or challenging tasks. Teachers who put encouragement on students may assume they have adopted a growth mindset. Having a growth mindset can help a person with a positive attitude, and a positive attitude can help people improve to accomplish a task. If someone has a fixed mindset they will be less likely to succeed. When someone is trying to win a football game or accomplish a task that their boss gives them at work they need to be in the right state of mind to complete the task. If a person messes up they need to fix their mistake so they can succeed. If someone has a fixed mindset he/she might just get angry and not worry about improving. A person's thoughts determine a person's failures or successes because if people say “you can't, you won't”, if people think negatively they won't try hard enough, if people think positively they have a growth mindset.
When reflecting on my progress to date, I believe I am exhibiting a growth mindset. The reason I feel as though I am exhibiting a growth mindset is because making the transition from high school to college, I knew there would be challenges and I will have to adjust myself to the college life and actually be on my own. In college, I knew my education would continue and that I will be learning way harder lessons than in high school. The work load would be more overwhelming, instead of me going to sleep at 11:30 pm, I found myself going to sleep at like 2 or 3:00 am in the morning due to me typing up a paper.

I haven’t necessarily seen a fixed mindset amongst my LCS class. They are very lively and most of them independent and secure of their skills. Nevertheless, I believe to a certain extent we all have a mixture of fixed and growth mindset in different aspects of our lives. Our mindset is directly linked to our perspective, which at the same time is deeply rooted in our upbringing. This include how our parents raise us, our education and society as a whole. Therefore, having a more inclined fixed mindset could be related to bad experiences in school, home or any other interaction within society.
