This bill will increase criminal background check system by 15.5 million dollars and program to help ensure states have the necessary resources to submit additional records of prohibited firearms purchase to the FBI. It will help keep gun away from criminal and make it less difficult for them to get their hands on. One, in the Charleston church shooting by Dylann Roof, who was mentally-ill and had been charged on a felony drug by the Charleston Police Department Officer was still able to own a gun legally. The police officer had made a mistake filling the arrest two days after Roof's drug arrest, but the change wasn't corrected in the state police database of arrests The federal law prohibits people with felony charge to obtain a firearm and to be able to buy a gun from the store. This allowed Dylann Roof to get a gun without his background not being accurately correct. Another reason this bill needs to be passed is to increased border control. So people wouldn’t smuggle gun in the United State. We need to make sure that the borders are secured from gun entering the United State. Another incident was in San Francisco, illegal immigrant Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez who has been deported 5 times killed one woman where he found the gun wrapped in a T-Shirt on the ground near a bench that belonged to a federal
Gun control is a controversial issue for a long time around the world, particularly in U.S. because of a lots of mass shooting in school and public places. The second Amendment of the U.S. constitution is one of the shortest in all of the bill of right, it was written by the time period of American’s birth and it is the spirit of self-defense that help the new citizens of U.S. win their own freedom from the British. But now as the gun shooting problem happening every day in America, this gun control problem has gradually become to a hot issue. Compare to other countries like Britain, Canada, Japan, China, the difference between U.S. and those countries is in these countries to get a firearm is a very difficult thing
According to a report by the Switzerland-based Small Arms Survey, the United States has about 35-50 percent of the world’s civilian-owned guns and has less than 5 percent of the world’s population. With no restriction and so much freedom, firearms can be distributed throughout the United States illegally and obtained as easy as buying it from a person, disregarding all gun laws. Implementing stricter background checks can help reduce the amount of crime relating to gun violence. It can also keep firearms away from those who shouldn’t have possession of them.
“The right to bear arms”, an amendment so prioritized by our founding fathers that it earned the very second spot on the list of birth rights as Americans. However, with constant tragedies striking the United States, such as massacres in public high schools and universities, mall shootings, and attempted assassinations on state representatives, it’s no wonder law makers are constantly debating the topic of gun control.
A hot-button topic in the world of U.S. politics today is the controversy over whether or not new gun laws need to be instituted to keep Americans safe. We are a nation that believes in the Second Amendment, and one that sticks to traditional values. With this, comes a great deal of incongruity, which makes for a very sensitive debate on gun control. On one side of the spectrum, we have those who take a more liberal stance; while they do in fact support the second amendment, there is no doubt that the U.S. has evolved significantly since the Constitution was written, hence creating a need for strict gun laws. On the other side of the spectrum, conservatives argue that as soon as executive action inhibits the fundamental principles in which
The bill simply calls for the use of more regulation and awareness when it comes to who is purchasing these firearms and making sure that the ones that do purchase the firearms are not felons or domestic abusers. Although this bill will not stop the act of gun violence, it will significantly reduce the deaths associated with gun violence through the use of background
“The plan combines executive actions and calls for legislative action that would help keep guns out of the wrong hands, ban assault and high-capacity magazines, make our schools safer, and increase access to mental health services.” In this plan President Obama wants to secure the background checks on purchasing a firearm so than the background checks can be more accurate with selling firearms to the appropriate customer and not the consumers that are prohibited to own a firearm. There are 1.5 million firearms were purchased by the customers that are prohibited to own a gun due to felons or an individual with a history of domestic violence in the past 14 years. President Obama’s plan is to follow through with the background checks with all firearm sales either through private or licensed seller. President Obama wants to make sure that there is reliable data available on the purchasers that are prohibited through the background check system. Background checks are not always reliable due to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) because if there is data on Mental Health HIPAA will not allow the access to the data because of the privacy violation that HIPAA is trying to protect the individual’s medical
The purpose of this memo is to ask you for your continuing support for H.R.1217-Public Safety and Second Amendment Rights Protection Act of 2015 (also known as the National Commission on Mass Violence Act of 2015). H.R. 1217 design is to support the second amendment rights while providing a responsible and consistent background checking process prior to purchasing of a firearm. It also prohibits the sale of firearms to those listed in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). In 2010 there were 14 million who people submitted background checks to purchase or transfer possession of a firearm resulting in 153,000 being blocked or prohibited from making a firearm purchase. Only 40% of firearm transactions occur through a licensed dealer hence an estimated 6.6 million firearm purchases’ occur through a private sale, a gun show, or the internet with no questions asked. Based upon these findings, there is a need for consistent and universal background checking for all firearm sales and transfers, thus aiding in reducing the number of firearms to persons that are at risk to harm themselves or others (Weinberger et al., 2015). The time is now to act for according to the Pew Research Center (2015) 85% of Americans support having private gun sales and gun shows subject to background checks.
The Fix Gun Checks Act of 2011 is a bill that was proposed to the United States Senate by New York Senator Charles Schumer. The bill is meant to better ensure that individuals who are meant to be prohibited from purchasing firearms within the United States are unable to do so, by making sure that they are placed in a national background check database. This bill is meant to put an end to many of the gun-related
Gun violence has existed in the United States for many years, and it continues to worsen each year. President Obama plans to close gun show loopholes to keep guns out of the hands of dangerous people. Obama’s plan fits the need to significantly reduce gun violence, there is no way to effectively put a complete end to gun violence but we need to try to minimize it. By closing gun show loopholes, everyone that goes to a federally licensed gun dealer will get a background check when purchasing firearms. The Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986 allows anyone to purchase without having a background check done, including convicted felons.
With a final note, this bill will help keep firearms away for criminal and letting people with a good record have the opportunity to purchase a gun if they want to. Every citizen has the right to be treated fair and with respect, and should have the right to purchase a gun unless otherwise stated by law. Guns should be used by the good citizens against the criminals if they are being a treat to the citizen’s life. Guns are not the “bad guys” the people who use guns for the wrong reason are, and are the people that should be the one to be prohibited from having
Gun reform has been a hot and controversial topic on Capitol Hill lately, and stirs the passion of both gun owners and reformers. The escalation of gun violence in the U.S. has created a push for federal gun reform laws. In an editorial piece in the New York Times titled “The Latest Hurdle to Gun-Law Reform,” part of a continuing series on the epidemic of gun violence, the issues relating to getting gun reform laws passed are discussed. The editorial advances an affirmative case, the passing of a background-check bill.
The bill I am proposing is a Gun Control Bill. I believe we should have one so it guarantees that guns are only used for military purposes. We need this bill so the number of deaths caused by guns will decrease. Statistics show that as of the date December 23rd, 2015 at least 12,942 people or more were killed in the United States due to gun homicide, unintentional shootings, murder, suicide, etc. Also due to gun shootings over 760 innocent kids were murdered over the course of last year. Another sad yet interesting fact is that at a rate of twice a day someone under the age of 18 has been shot and killed due to guns. New studies show that guns are now are now known as a common cause of death, it is now as common as car deaths. I also believe that guns should harder to access and licences should not be given out unless if there is a background check.
Although gun restrictions have made it harder for people to obtain guns, Gun Restrictions won't stop murder because Bumb Stocks are extremely pointless. The mass shooting that took place in Las Vegas was caused by a bump stock. The shooter had multiple guns with lots of ammo. True fact, Jarry Miculek is the world's fastest shooter. The fore bump stocks don't matter , Assualt Weapons do not exist. Assault weapon are not the leading cause to murder. The number one cause to murders is handguns and blunt objects. The government tries to make assault weapons look scary and they do a good job of that, but assault weapons are truly not scary and they are not more dangerous then shotguns and they have handguns stronger than AR-15's.,
Opponents may say that “criminal don’t follow the laws” so the gun control laws will only make hard for citizens to obtain guns. It is true that criminal don’t follow laws. However, the gun control laws will make it hard for criminal to obtain guns. If gun control laws focus on private sellers by making private sellers follow the laws. The private sellers will need to do a background check when they are selling. It will help the government prevent the criminal get guns from private seller. People should know that the private sellers are one of the sources, that criminal can get guns. If the private sellers obey the laws, criminal are hardly to get guns, and will cut down the large portion of gun violence. In addition, guns obtain legally can
A few years ago, twenty children no older than seven years old were murdered at Sandy Hook Elementary School. They were shot with legally acquired guns while in a classroom just like this one. One minute they were learning and the next, fearing for their lives as the sounds of gunshots and screaming rang through the air until they were murdered. Since then, hundreds more have been killed by guns. At least one mass shooting happens everyday. If one does not happen today, the one tomorrow will have double the casualties. Yet, our government still refuses to fix their mistake of allowing their killers to easily and legally obtain guns. The current gun laws in place will only allow more of these massacres to happen since you do not even have to know how to use a gun to own one. Surprisingly, you do not need to do much but hand over money to get your hands on a killing machine, from certain sellers. Therefore, our current laws do not favor anyone but dangerous criminals, because in a world where violent and untrained people can buy guns, law abiding citizens do not stand a chance. However, there is a solution. Gun related deaths and crimes can be reduced through a more rigorously enforced vetting process that includes making background checks more thorough and banning dangerous individuals from owning guns.
