There are gun control laws to try and reduce the number of violent shootings that occur. They are trying to put limits on weapons that Americans can own. The government is trying to take our guns away mainly because of people that are criminally insane. Most of the people who commit crimes don’t even have the weapons legally. If the government takes away the rights of people who are allowed to have firearms in their possession, it will most definitely cause an outrage. Most people believe that the people should be more capable of maintain proper use of the firearms instead of having them all taken away. President obama said at a press conference on October 01, 2015 “The solution to such violence is obvious. It cannot be this easy for somebody who wants to inflict harm on other people to get his or her hands on a gun.” (Simple Minded Gun Control). Gun control is a controversial issue worldwide. The reason why this has attracted so much attention is because not everyone is in favor of gun control and each side brings up excellent points about the issue. Research related to this issue strongly supports the claim that there SHOULD be more gun control laws. Three arguments that prove this position are (1) Incidents like Sandy Hook will be less likely to occur (2) It reduces the high rates of accidental deaths (3) As the years pass by and technology updates the laws should be up to date as well. Members from the National Rifles Association state that No law-abiding American should be forced to face evil with empty hands. I say I agree with President Obama there SHOULD be more gun control laws because it should not be as easy as it is for someone who wants to inflict harm on others to get their hands on a weapon.

The second amendment gives people the right to own a firearm. The founding fathers might have thought a gun was the best form of protection but many years have past since then and humans have evolved. Times are different and society is different. Technology has a big impact on people and how we think and all those variables can affect people with how they react in stressful situations. We have to consider the mental stability of those in possession of the weapons, it is important to keep the weapon away from loved ones or other people, and is the law protecting those in possession of the weapons or putting lives in more danger.

Gun control has its pros and cons, Some believe “Gun control laws state that the Second Amendment was intended for militias; that gun violence would be reduced; that gun restrictions have always existed; and that a majority of Americans, including gun owners, support new gun restrictions.”While others say that the Second Amendment “protects an individual’s right to own guns; that guns are needed for self-defense from threats ranging from local criminals to foreign invaders; and that gun ownership deters crime rather than causes more crime.” To be able to pick a side one must look at the argument from both perspectives, that 's what this paper accomplishes. One characteristic of American culture trough out the years, has been its affinity for diverse weaponry, particularly guns. However, many do not realize that America’s relationship with guns is engraved into the very frames upon which the country was established. On December 14, 2012, the community of Newtown, Connecticut was shattered by a mass shooting at Sandy Hooks Elementary School which claimed the lives of 26 people. Of the 26 people gunned down, 20 of the victims were small, defenseless children. In January 2013, a Georgia mother was home alone with her nine year old twins when an intruder forced his way into her home. The mother and her children attempted to hide in a closet, but the intruder discovered them. In self-defense and to protect her small children, the mother shot the intruder five times. Gun control is a topic that has been discussed for many years now. Increasingly so with all of the mass gun violence that has been occurring recently such as the Orlando and San Bernardino shootings in 2015 and 16. Some view gun control as a crime issue and others view it as a rights issue. Either way, there are people that want more gun control and people that want less gun control. On both sides of the issue, opinions range from moderate to extreme. Should we put more restrictions on firearms, or should we have open carry and allow for anybody to have a firearm? These are a few questions that come up when gun control is brought into a conversation. Firearms are purchased for recreation, self-defense, and even just to exercise constitutional rights. Living a life in America, we all get to have all the rights that included in the Constitution. One of those was the Second Amendment which is the rights to bear arm, the purpose was to protect ourselves from danger but nowadays a lot of people have take advantage of it and use it in the wrong way. I believe our government need to have a strict limit on guns possession.

For my family gun control is a picky topic. Especially for myself who is pro-gun and my father who is anti-gun to a slight degree. I believe that if you want to own a weapon or firearm of any type, as long as it is within the law, go for it. Whereas my father believes that you should only need to own a pistol, no semi-automatic rifles of shotguns. That is to say, he feels that rifles are not applicable in our daily life, and that we don’t need them. I do own a good number of knives, and I will carry one on me from time to time, for the purpose of self-defense. Which seems to be a common factor with most gun buyers. With this in mind we should examine other countries with lower crime rates to see if there is a method to reduce the effect of gun violence in our society, the current gun application process, as well as look into the past to see if we can learn anything at all from others mistakes.
