Violence in America: The Easy Solution
Imagine being a parent and walking into your child’s bedroom, seeing them lying dead in a pool of blood with a gun still in their hand. I believe there should more laws controlling who can have a gun and what kind of guns should be allowed to the public. Guns should be more regulated and less accessible to the public and there should be more laws created making it harder to buy a gun. Gun control laws are needed because it would put more control over who can buy a gun and would reduce the availability. In recent years, there has been alarming rates of mass shootings, suicides and homicides, and an increasing amount of gun related accidents.
Mass shootings have increasingly been in the news and are becoming more common. Mass shootings are increasing alarmingly as stated by Melissa Healy, a LA Times reporter, “Unfortunately, the 355th shooting that involved four or more victims this year suggested that already may be the case: In 2015, such occurrences have averaged more than one a day. In fact, the San Bernardino attack was Wednesday's second mass shooting - the first was in Savannah, Georgia” (Healy pg. 1) (logos). In 2015 alone, there has been a large number of mass shootings and people have fallen victim to these shootings. These statistics show that gun control should be an issue and that there should be more control over guns. Research by Harvard University suggests, “the frequency of mass shootings has increased threefold since
The rise in cases of gun violence and related incidences of assault has drawn the public to the issue of guns and gun control. Such has been evident within the spheres of politics especially with the last election period seeing the incumbent president Donald Trump suggesting on stringent gun control laws. However, despite the acknowledgment of the need to have better gun laws, much ground and consensus has never reached. Such, to an extent, contributed to the current lack of political goodwill within the country to have the necessary legislations enacted to facilitate the same on the controls (Grandy 23). Of the guns under question are the assault rifles. Like the military weapons, assault rifles have a destructive potential to causing
Gun Control has obviously gone out of control in the recent years. Look around, they are everywhere. Reducing the rate of Crime in the United States would make the country a better place to live. In the past and in the present, Mass Shootings have impacted America. Virginia Tech shooting killed 33 teachers and students (Bowman). In 1999, the
The second amendment gives people the right to own a firearm. The founding fathers might have thought a gun was the best form of protection but many years have past since then and humans have evolved. Times are different and society is different. Technology has a big impact on people and how we think and all those variables can affect people with how they react in stressful situations. We have to consider the mental stability of those in possession of the weapons, it is important to keep the weapon away from loved ones or other people, and is the law protecting those in possession of the weapons or putting lives in more danger.
Did know that there are approximately 4.5 million firearms sold in the United States each year, and and estimated 2 million second hand firearms are sold each year? According to the IANSA (International Action Network on Small Arms of the United Nations), in the United States there are more than ten thousand gun homicides annually (IANSA). These statistics should shock every American. Gun control is the reason for these gross statistics. The strict laws on guns cases a lot of violent crimes, therefore the laws should be changed so that they are easier to buy, own, and protect oneself.
There have been many highly publicized gun-related incidents, such as the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012, that have renewed that call for even stricter gun control measures for both politicians and members of the media. The push for greater controls on firearms is bad policy with regards to the protection of our rights as U.S. citizens, our safety from those mean us harm, and the maintenance of an important economic market for providing legal firearms for both sport and protection. Rather than making gun ownership harder for law abiding U.S. citizens, we should be more aggressively enforcing the gun-related laws currently in place, while looking for ways to make legal gun ownership less complicated and burdensome. This will help protect the constitutional freedoms of future generations while making us safer now.
In today’s America, violence is becoming a great concern to everyone in the nation. One of the major problems in America is the way it's portrayed instead of handled. There many people trying to intensify gun control laws; but, increasing gun control laws is not that way to go. Although, weapons have the potential to kill, they are also used for protection.
Gun control is a big thing in the world today. Many Americans want it but also many don’t. There are both good reasoning’s and there are bad reasoning’s. Gun control is for our own safety but can also take our safe feelings away by knowing we won’t have a gun in hand to protect us in a real time of need. The second Amendment is commonly used when trying to set up the restrictions and rules of these gun control laws. There are a lot of regulations being set up and still are being made to “keep us safe.” Strict gun laws can be good for American citizens but they also can be life threatening in times. There is a never ending debate on gun control and Americans will always fight for their rights. The government should not be allowed to regulate the purchase on the owning of guns.
The shootings that has happened throughout the Unites States has created a great divide among Americans on what should our nation do to prevent further shootings from happening. Many people believe that forcing new laws on how people purchase weapons should require background checks. Gun Control in the United States of America is a topic that has had lots of criticism and support by many citizens. The critical people of this topic believe that the guns do not kill people, it is the people that kill people. The supporters of this topic believe that guns lead to violence and a feeling of power over others. They also believe that if guns were eliminated from the public, then violence and death would decrease heavily in this country. These two opposing views leave the federal government open to a decision on whether or not to abolish one of our Constitutional rights, or to keep allowing people the right to own a gun. There are many issues that need to be looked at in order to decide which laws are necessary.
In America guns have been a part of the country’s society since it’s birth. Throughout history the citizens of the US have used firearms to protect the nation, protect their families, to hunt for food and to engage in sporting activities. The issue of Guns and gun control takes on a proportion of extreme magnitude. Weighing the rights and liberties of the individual against the welfare and safety of the public has always been a precarious balancing act. In the United States, gun control is one of these tumultuous issues that has both sides firmly entrenched in their positions. Those parties in favor of gun ownership and the freedom to use and keep arms, rely on the fact that the provision for such rights is enshrined in their constitution.
For gun control, there should be some requirements for the people to take in order to own a gun for themselves. Throughout the United States, gun control should allow people to still have guns; however, the citizens should go through some changes to ensure safety throughout the nation. Gun control has given some helpful ideals before that would help the people understand the responsibilities of their guns. They want to make sure that these laws maintain to progress as a better solution. Authorities should suggest on adding more security throughout the nation. Most citizens believe guns can still be helpful. Some people, on the other hand, think guns should have been banned. In some ways, guns may be beneficial, however, for the most part, the United States government should limit ownership, and lend the police more authority to enforce government laws.
One of the most debated topics in the world today is the conflicting belief on whether people should or should not own and use guns. Gun control is generally defined as “laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, or use of firearms” (Gopink, 2012). The views and opinions of this situation vary across the world. Some territories set strict rules and difficult procedures to obtain weapons while others allow easy access. People are usually very opinionated about this subject, causing debates and conflicting reactions. Gun control is one of the most controversial topics with numerous approaches to how it should be handled.
There has always been and always will be a problem with crime in America. Gun control has become a hot topic when talking about crime prevention. Gun control is any law, policy, or practice created to regulate the possession, production, sale, and use of firearms by private citizens.
Gun Control in America has been a major debate since 1995. The debate is never ending because there are so many situations that have surfaced, requiring different policies and exceptions. Guns in America have not only provided protection for some citizens but they have also wounded and killed many citizens. Our laws allow for possession of registered guns with a gun license but it is easy to purchase a gun without showing a legal license. We must remember that although guns are used to kill, they are not the root of the problem. Guns are sometimes used as a result of being mentally unstable. We cannot necessarily say if there were tighter gun control laws there would be less gun related fatalities but we can say that it will result in a better understanding of why firearms other problems that are considered dangerous.
The issue of gun control in America is all about conflict between opposing viewpoints within the nation. The two main opposing groups are the NRA, who want freedom of firearms, compared to pro gun-control who want increased gun laws and control. Looking at this issue from the NRA’s point of view it shows they believe that every American should have the right to own a gun, whether this be for self protection or recreation. On the other hand, pro gun-control activists believe in safety and control of guns in America.
I believe that guns should have more laws about gun control. We must be able to keep and maintain a good environment for everyone who lives in the United States. Many people use guns for hunting and protection, but there are still many people who use it in a dangerous way and that must change. Reasons why I think there needs to be more laws on gun control are there are so many accidental deaths, aren’t responsible with them, and using them in the wrong way.
