There should be a gun laws on the type of weapons that an individual can own and limits on ammunition that would effectively lessen the impact of any violent acts. There are a vast array of weapons that are available on the market from the fully automatic M16 to the semi-automatic Dessert Eagle (Stokes, 2013, para. 6). Nonetheless, the weapons are not the problem until they are loaded with deadly ammunition that kills or injures almost instantly. To make matters worse, those who do violent crime couple firearms with huge amounts of ammunition and sizeable magazines in preparation for mass murder. In one case, a man by the name of James E. Holmes was able to acquire over six thousand rounds of ammunition for which he would later use inside
On Wednesday June 18, 2015 nine shot dead at a historical black church in Charleston, South Dakota and only a month later on July 16, 2015 in Chattanooga, Tennessee with five dead leaving citizens devastated. The past year contains more than 350 mass shootings, averaging 1.02 shootings per day and continuous growing number of deaths, multiple mass shootings around the world leaving dozens of victims in its path. There is no exact definition of mass shootings, but most sources believe it is when four or more people are shot in one location. Citizens in America are easily able to obtain a gun and the growing issue is whether this should change and stronger laws in place. Although citizens believe gun control laws take away second amendment and right to protect themselves, mass shootings are increasing yearly and action needs to happen to prevent the next attack.
In about every nation, gun control has always been an issue of controversy. Gun control laws are quite different from country to country, each possessing different requirements, specifications, and ordinances, so on and so on. What will be examined are the specified gun control laws in three international countries, ranging from Canada, Australia, and Japan, as well as a comparison and contrast of the the similarities and unique differences toward American gun control laws and those in other countries, and finally, the effects of having loose gun control laws. Unlike America, these countries possess stricter laws regarding gun control.
Guns in the U.S has been a problem for many years now. So much so that America is what comes to mind when people think about guns. America is the most known nation in the world when it comes to firearms, with citizens owning about an astonishing 270 million of the world’s 875 million firearms(Marshall). That is thirty percent on the world registered firearms. The reason why Americans own so may guns comes down to the second Amendment, which claims, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” (Rauch) This grants the citizens from America the right to own and buy firearms. Since this amendment is vague, it comes down to
The government has the responsibility to protect people. Currently, the gun violence has threatened the American public safety, people used gun to kill many people for their own interests. The United States constitution believes Americans have their own gun to protect themselves. Some people said guns will protect their life easily. Whether, America should have strict gun control laws or not bring about the debate in society.
2 of the 5 deadliest mass shootings in modern American history have happened this year. The United States constitution ensures that every citizen has the right to firearms, the question at hand however is to what extent these firearms can be regulated or where should the government draw the line to ensure that the safety of American citizens is prioritized? There comes a point where sending thoughts and prayers just isn’t enough anymore. However, one thing is for certain: something must be done. Guns should be strictly regulated to reduce gun deaths, threat of mass shootings and to be completely true to the promises of the constitution.
What could be done to reduce gun violence in the United States, by comparing gun control laws with other countries to see weather or not gun laws are effective? I feel comparing gun control laws between other countries to see how their laws are in effect with lowering gun violence, so we could get a better understanding on what we could do as a country to help reduce gun violence or to see if gun control is even affective.
concern due to the fact of the mass shootings and terrorist events that have been occurring in the past few decades. Other than the mass shootings and terrorist events, there is also concern due to the crimes committed with guns. Such as, armed robberies, gang related activities, and other crimes involving guns. As U.S. American citizens we all have the right to bear arms as set forth by our forefathers in the Constitutional Amendments. There are things to consider when selling or purchasing a gun. Believing there are measures that need to be taken in order to prevent terrible events such as mass shootings or terrorist events, but is there really anything that can be done to prevent the crimes that are out on the streets daily involving guns?
The Sandy Hook incident that took place in Newtown, Connecticut has caused a lot of people to rethink about the second amendment and even go on to alter it. A lot of people think that the availability of weapons for people is the reason for these shootings. It now appears that the cause that re started this entire episode which was the Sandy Hook incident will not be fixed by what the democrats are proposing as a solution will not be solved. It appears that the weapons Adam Lanza obtained from his shooting were actually his mother. Lanza's mother purchased the gun in accord with the Connecticut laws. It appears that the restrictive legislation that has been suggested for this state would still not reduce his access to them. Gun control basically refers to the various means of probation or restrictions on keeping weapons with a person. These restrictions look over not only the possession of firearms, but on the transport and use of them.
As many as 14520 people have died from homicide this year, and 9934 of those deaths involve a gun. Whether these are by accident or on purpose, these numbers speak for themselves. And I know what you are saying to yourselves, “ it’s not the firearm that is the problem, it is the person.” Although this may be true, and factors like mental illness, depression, and the naturally violent nature of America play a part in these incidents. Most people, myself included, believe obtaining the gun is the first step of the problem as a whole. But like all other problems our nation has encountered, I think we as a whole could do more to do away with said issue. The first step, in my opinion, is establishing more regulations on guns. This is a good start since these incidents are so hard to manage, predict, and prevent.
The amount of gun control laws will not stop criminals from obtaining guns or committing crimes . If criminals are able to obtain drugs illegally, then they are most likely able to obtain guns illegally. Whether it's legally purchased or illegally purchased or even borrowed from a family member a criminal will go to whatever lengths to get a gun. Guns will be stolen which will lead to more crimes. A stolen gun being used in a homicide will make it harder to find out who committed the crime because the gun belongs to someone else and not the actual culprit. Guns being taken away does not affect the amount of crimes committed because there are many various other weapons that could be used instead of a gun. People who oppose guns say that high-capacity
Once upon a Christmas time Kelvin got a sniper pro nerf gun. He decided to go out and try out his new gun. Kelvin went over to Bobby Joe’s and Mikenzie’s house and asked if they wanted to come over to his house then being a hospitable host, he walked over to Bobby Joe and showed him his new nerf gun. Then Kelvin shot Bobby Joe, committing homicide.
The U.S has the highest gun ownership rate in the world; there are 89 guns to every 100 americans, compared to in England and Wales and the murder figures themselves are astounding for Brits, used to around 550 murders per year. In 2011 there were 12,664 murders in the U.S of those, 8,583 were caused by firearms. Most of those were caused by illegal firearms bought on the black market by “bad” people. But the problem is deciding who should and should
I think guns should be legal for law abiding citizens. Law abiding citizens should be able to own a gun. They would protect themselves and their families. Americans who own a gun should take a safety course. They can learn how to use the weapons properly.
Former Governor of New York Eliot Spitzer once said "Yes, people pull the trigger - but guns are the instrument of death. Gun control is necessary, and delay means more death and horror". Spitzer’s words makes one think: should we fear the person behind the gun or the gun itself? The majority of violent crimes that happen in America are not only caused by a criminal, but also the weapon in which the criminal is holding. America’s gun violence problem stems from the increasing accessibility of firearms. Many of the mass shootings in America could have been prevented if access to semi-automatic and automatic weapons were completely banned. Gun violence is an arising issue, and a change needs to be made concerning the gun laws in the U.S. Stricter gun control laws is necessary to prevent high accessibility to firearms and mass shootings, also research shows that Australia’s strict gun control laws are proven to be more efficient in preventing gun violence.
When analyzing and creating new policy for gun control in the United States, there are many conflicting areas. One problem being the conflicting viewpoint people possess. Within the political system of the United States, there are altering viewpoints on gun control. In the text, Garner explain political parties (2016) “In democracies, parties have a more prominent role in providing choice between individual political actors and between policies” (p. 234, ch.10 Political Parties). This can be seen when dealing with gun control when Republicans and Democrats disagree on new policies. The majority of people agree that the best way to ensure that people with mental illnesses do not commit violent crimes with firearms would be through improved screening
