A hot-button topic in the world of U.S. politics today is the controversy over whether or not new gun laws need to be instituted to keep Americans safe. We are a nation that believes in the Second Amendment, and one that sticks to traditional values. With this, comes a great deal of incongruity, which makes for a very sensitive debate on gun control. On one side of the spectrum, we have those who take a more liberal stance; while they do in fact support the second amendment, there is no doubt that the U.S. has evolved significantly since the Constitution was written, hence creating a need for strict gun laws. The issue of gun control dates back to the 17th century. There have been debates whether the government of the United States should adopt gun control or not and whether it is good for its citizens or not. As a result, two opposing groups have been formed; one supporting guns control and the other one against. According to statistics a big percentage of crimes committed in the United States are as a result of possession of guns and other firearms among citizens. In surveys carried out since 1999, over 20% of gun owners said that they owned the guns for protection. According to them, they use the guns to protect themselves against the increasing crimes. However, not all gun owners use the guns for protection; some use them to commit crimes thereby bringing in the issue of gun control. The United States government need to formulate laws and regulations to control gun ownership especially pro-guns (Spitzer p34-35).

Gun control is a very touchy subject. I don't believe that taking the guns away from the law abiding citizens is the correct way to go about this issue. The criminals are the ones not going thru the proper ways to buy a firearm. Right now there are 2 background checks that you go thru to buy a firearm. One is state and the other is federal. The Democrats believe there should be more background checks that potential gun owners should go thru. They also believe that banning certain guns and items for guns will help the issue. The issue of gun control in America is all about conflict between opposing viewpoints within the nation. The two main opposing groups are the NRA, who want freedom of firearms, compared to pro gun-control who want increased gun laws and control. Looking at this issue from the NRA’s point of view it shows they believe that every American should have the right to own a gun, whether this be for self protection or recreation. On the other hand, pro gun-control activists believe in safety and control of guns in America.

Whether or not there should be gun control in America is highly debated in the media today. Some people argue that gun control will reduce gun related violence, others argue it will have no effect. In the first article I read it argues that if regulations are placed on guns, than gun related violence will be reduced. I agree with this article and the evidence it provides.

There should be stricter gun laws in the United States. Gun control has been a controversial topic, no doubt. It has led people to say that people shouldn’t be able to buy guns, and this argument has split America. Since I am a hunter I do believe people should have the right to buy guns. I also want to pass a bill that removes some types of guns away from the market.

I think that you should be able to have guns in public because you have to be able to protect yourself from threats, if not you are unable to protect yourself or anyone very effectively. Guns, they have come a long way since the muzzleloaders our founding fathers first used, but does that change what they are or what they represent? Many people think that our modern technology needs to be regulated by the government. Members of our government agree with these people, using such terms as implied powers as there excuse for trying to hack away at our Second Amendment rights. Our government should not make gun laws more strict, it not only goes against our constitutional rights but also puts civilians in harm of violent crimes such as murder and mass shootings.

Should gun ownership be tightly controlled, why or why not? In my opinion gun ownership should be tightly controlled. Guns can be very violent and can cause major problems, so there should be restrictions on who can and cannot buy guns. There are already restrictions on who can and cannot buy a gun, but I think there needs to be a few more, because in the society we live in today there are many shootings going on causing a lot of people to loose their life.

National Security means different things relating to different people. The safety of all Americans should be one of the top priorities in this economy. National Security is needed for obvious reasons as there has been an increase in terrorism both domestic and foreign in this country since the terrorist attack on 9/11. National security is very paramount ant without it the economy would be in danger. In order to triumph over this view, we must make profitable use of all our devices in our economy. National security ranges from different forms such as political security, economic security, Homeland security, Human security, and Cyber security.
