Gun Control Reduce Crime Essay

America is known as the land of opportunity, freedom, fast food, and raging numbers of gun violence. According to Mass Shooting Tracker there has been about 367 shootings so far since the year started (Mass Shooting Tracker). This is outrageous considering that in other countries, gun shooting numbers don 't even reach a two-digit number. Far too many people have been victims of these unregulated weapons, claiming lives and ripping families apart. There is no safe place from these assault weapons, no movie theater, night club, church, or school. American’s must deal with the fact that any unsuited person is legally allowed to purchase a weapon with the weak regulations we currently have. Assault weapons have been damaging for this country and it 's time to change the laws. Gun regulations and laws need to be stricter to make it harder for individuals to purchase guns to prevent any future tragedies from happening.

The amendment reads: "A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." The basic issue for the justices was whether the amendment protects an individual's right to own guns no matter what, or whether that right is somehow tied to service in a state militia. The capital's gun law was among the nation’s strictest. The law, adopted by Washington's city council in 1976, bars residents from owning handguns unless they had one before the law took effect. There are two major sides of gun control. One side is that the people that support the right to bear arms, and the people that don’t support guns and want them abolished. The side that supports gun control believes that you should be able to own any kind of arms. The position that they take is that if you outlaw guns it will only affect good people and criminals will always find a way to get a weapon. They believe that you are not taking the guns out of bad people’s hands because bad people will always be able to attain a gun illegally. Gun control is, put simply, damaging our rights. It has been shown countless times in history that gun control has little to no positive effect on crime in the area that the gun control was implemented. In some cases, crime rates actually rose in those areas. In modern American society, there are several statistics that can prove my viewpoint on this topic as the proper one. A survey of over 18 thousand prison inmates showed that 30% of state offenders and 35% of federal offenders were in the possession of a firearm while committing the crime. Another survey of inmates convicted of felons throughout 11 state prisons had stated that 34% had been “scared off, shot at, wounded, or captured” by an armed would-be victim. 69% knew someone that had been. On another note, there were 40% of these felons that made the choice not to commit a crime due to an armed person in the vicinity. In 2008, over 5 million violent crimes, including rape, assault, and murder occurred in the United States. However, only 8% of offenders were visibly armed with a gun. And while I'm on the topic of violent crimes, only 1 in 12 offenders are sentenced to prison (Agresti).

Gun control laws are not always effective and that is why each year they are improving them and making them to where they can be more effective. One of the laws that was the most effective was the Brady act which required all individuals that were interested in owning a gun to have a background check that was implemented by the federal government (Kwon, & Baack, 2005). This act has had a very positive impact on the crimes rates and has helped protect our society. There are many articles that show that with stricter gun laws being implemented that there are a decrease in crimes being committed throughout the United Stares (Kwon, & Baack, 2005). Studies show that countries who have low gun ownership have fewer gun related deaths. In reality if

Gun Control will not prevent gun violence. Criminals will still be able to get guns through different ways illegally. There are things like the black or grey market or the deep web where people can buy anything, like guns. Even if they made a gun registry, made people do a number of background checks, criminals would still be able to get guns in some way. A statistic shows that 79% of people threatened with a gun protected themselves with a gun (“Should More Gun Control Laws be Enacted?”). If the people protecting themselves didn’t have those guns, then they would most likely be dead, and the gun death statistic would go up.

Thomas Jefferson said, “The beauty of the 2nd amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it”. Guns are a major crime factor in the U.S but adding more gun laws won’t decrease the violence rate. The problem of gun control starts when it’s difficult for law abiding citizens to purchase any type of firearm. Unfortunately, gun laws do not work on criminals but only makes it easier for them to create violence. This can lead to more people having a bad view on guns. Therefore, having more gun regulations will not make a difference in the decrease of crime, it will just enhance it.

Americans during that time looked for a written right that allowed them to keep weapons to defend their families and their country. Even though many argue whether guns should be banned or not in Washington D.C., but in 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court stated in a case known as “District of Columbia v. Heller”. The ruling established that the Second Amendment to the Constitution -- "the right of the people to keep and bear arms" -- means that individuals, and not just the police and military, may own guns. This rule by the U.S. Supreme Court basically stated that it is ones right to keep a gun at home for self-defense, but didn’t state anything about controlling guns.

It is believed gun control would reduce the death rate. It is true that one of the leading causes of deaths are guns. “There is no doubt that the existence of some 260 million guns (of which perhaps 60 million are handguns) increases the death rate in this country. We do not have drive-by poisonings or drive-by knives, but we do have drive-by shootings” (Wilson 1). Gun control is effective when it comes to handling someone who is purchasing a gun and is flagged on the background check. It will not stop someone from purchasing the parts and building their own gun. People ask themselves how could someone bring multiple semi-automatic assault weapons in a hotel room with no one noticing.

The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states, that since there is a necessity for a Free State and regulated militia, the right of the American people to keep and bear arms would not be infringed by the United States government. One cannot stop and wonder the calamities that are caused by guns in their completely proper usage. This nation needs to have a talk over its malignant obsession with guns.

Gun control doesn't deter crime gun ownership does . My problem with gun control laws is that they don’t deter violent crime but it does limit the second amendment . This is such a big discussion because millions of gun owners and suppliers are involved . This topic also was strong ties to the constitution because in the bill of rights states that all U.S citizens have the right to bear arms . Everyone has the ability to exercise the right to bear arms to defend themselves or others for the common good of society .

Some claim that stricter firearm regulation would contribute directly to the nation’s collective security by preventing criminals from obtaining firearms through legal means. However, this is a misguided approach in addressing the real issue. A hardened criminal, accustomed to life on the fringes of the legal system would have no qualms about adding the illegal acquisition of a firearm to his repertoire of criminal activity if it suited his purposes. Any suitably motivated individual with a strong enough desire can and will obtain a firearm or an alternative means to accomplish their goal. Take the city of Chicago: “Despite Chicago 's ban on gun shops, shooting ranges, assault weapons, and high capacity magazines, in 2014 Chicago had 2,089 shooting victims including at least 390 murders. Approximately 50,000 guns were recovered by police in Chicago between 2001 and Mar. 2012” (Procon). The ease with which one can obtain a firearm is laughable and the government deeming them illegal would not change that. If one were to round up every legally owned and registered firearm in the United States and melt them down for scrap, this would still be true. Trying to remove guns in order to prevent violent crime is like banning water to prevent drowning; how do you keep it from slipping through the cracks?

The Second Amendment is a protection to the right that says that people can keep and bear arms. The Second Amendment were written in the United States Constitution on December 15, 1791. The right to bear arms has led to controversy between people. Some people wants to have guns in their homes as a protection. While other people means a gun leads to many problems. A reason to why people wants to have gun is because of the right to carry weapons is seen as an “important symbol of individual freedom.” (Connectusfund.org 2016)

Gun control is not an effective way to reduce crime in the United States or anywhere. Crime isn’t something you can reduce by controlling the weapons used. A person would have to change their biology and environment or pay him enough to sustain his/her family. If you were to restrict guns then you would just get a lot more people killed because if you own a gun and the robber knows it than he is a lot less likely to come and rob you.so as i said before gun control is not an effective way to reduce crime.
