To me, a veteran is someone who served in the military. It is important for people to serve in the military. This is because we need protection from other countries who may wish to hurt us in some way. The military not only protects us as people and protect our country, but they are also protect our rights. Without our rights,we would be almost like slaves. That would not be a good thing.
I have had a lot of relatives in the military. Both of my grandpas have served in the military. Both of them were in the army. I am glad they served for our country like this. I never heard them tell stories. My Pa may have told stories but I can’t remember them because I was little when he passed away. I don’t think my other
These past and present veterans are vital to the survival of the U.S. They make it possible for us to have a life worry free, to the thought of danger. Without past generations of veterans we would be living in a country full of awful things. Veterans help to protect the children and people, by keeping
Trevion Jamaal Williams is a 14-year-old, goofy, humble, intelligent, and extraordinary teenage boy. His hobbies are to eat, sleep, skim (not read) books or informational text, observe, teach, learn, write, play the trombone, and watch television. When Trevion was younger, age 2 or 3, his parents got divorced. He is the oldest of two sisters and two brothers. He lived in Forrest City his whole life, until he was 6 years old. He moved to Palestine, Arkansas for 7 years and moved back to Forrest City. He currently attends Forrest City High School with a 4.0 GPA. The thing about Trevion is that he believes that everyone has a destiny in life that would change the world (Class of 2020). But, he has higher expectation of himself than other’s. As
There are so many history stories in history books and on the internet, but the source from people who were actually there is so much better than reading the nonsense. It’s better to hear stories from people who have actually lived and witnessed it rather than just read stories about it. Most students listen better than they read. When you listen to stuff, it sticks in our mind way longer than looking at a book trying to figure out what’s going on. Veterans are an example of this. They tell us stories about the times they were in the training and when they battled, if they did or have already. They have always been an important part of our nation’s history, present, and future. Everyone who went into the military or is currently planning to join has or will have a story to tell. It will be a part of them that they will always remember, the good times and the bad times. So many veterans love telling all the experiences they have witnessed. Thinking of it, it’s not a bad thing; it’s a great thing to be able to say they were actually there. Many students ask what the training is like when they first join the military, although it’s really tough, many still consider going, some even make the commitment to join right after they graduate. Those who do make it, the commitment, are the reason our nation’s history and future is how it is and how
Veterans put their life on the line to help defend our country because it’s something they feel they need to do. They are very inspiring people. Most people don’t have the courage to go to war. The men and women who are so courageous are once in a lifetime people who have amazing stories to tell. Our freedom would not exist if it weren’t for veterans.
While I admire the work that many veterans have done, I don’t believe that I would be able to make the same sacrifices as they did. As a service to their country, they took it upon themselves to protect those unknown to them. They are a part of something greater than themselves in which they are essential to the outcome of the whole. All roles are of equal importance because without them all our rights would be unfound. There would be no freedom of speech or right to a fair trial. Our country would be without purpose if we
Understanding a person’s life and struggles helps explain his or her character and leadership qualities. Smallwood E. Williams was born on October 17, 1907 in Virginia. He moved to Columbus, Ohio with his mother and stepfather when he was only eleven years old. Williams lost his father when he was an infant (Taylor 50). Upon moving to Columbus in 1918, his mother joined Bishop Robert Lawson’s Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith (COOLJC) and began taking Williams there every Sunday. A few years later, at age fourteen, Williams started preaching at the church while attending school. In fact, people started calling him “Boy-Wonder Preacher” mainly after his travel to New York City to preach at Lawson’s Refuge Church of Christ
As it turns out, there are different categories within the term ‘veteran.’ “A war veteran is any Government Issue ordered to foreign soil or waters to participate in direct or support activity against an enemy” (Coleman, 2008). While a combat veteran is defined as, “any Government Issue who experienced any level of hostility for any duration resulting from offensive, defensive, or friendly fire military action involving a real or perceived enemy in any pre- or post-designated theater or combat (war) operations” (Coleman, 2008). While they both may seem similar, the difference lays between real and perceived danger. According to the 2012 U.S. Census brief from the Department of Veterans Affairs website, there are more than 12 million veterans of age 65 and older. Due to the large number of older veterans, some people forget to include young individuals under the veteran
A person who once served in the armed forces is, by definition, a Veteran. A Veteran is much more than a former soldier. They are not just However, to me it always seemed that we are still leaving a very significant portion of people out of this acknowledgement. Although we ladies may not have taken part in the actual combat until someone who has been a member of the army, but also pilots, captains, doctors, and nurses
Veteran - A person who is long experienced or practiced in an activity or capacity.
“A Veteran is someone, who at one point in their life, wrote a blank check payable to the United States of America for an amount up to, and including, their life. Regardless of personal political views, that is an honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer remember that fact.”
Cathay Williams, born into slavery in Independence, Missouri in September of 1844, was determined to become more than a house slave. In 1861, the Union Forces captured slaves as “contraband” and forced them to serve the military in roles such as cooks, laundresses, or nurses (“Cathay Williams”, n.d.). At the age of 17, Cathay was forced to serve the 8th Indiana Volunteer Infantry Regiment where she travelled alongside the Soldiers to Arkansas, Louisiana, and Georgia. It is believed when Cathay was in Little Rock, Arkansas; she came across African-American Soldiers that influenced her decision to become a Soldier. On 15 November 1866 (at the age of 22), Cathay Williams commenced her ruse of enlisting into the Regular Army as William Cathay for three
