People die more than often to guns and kids are getting guns they shouldn’t have access to. For example the text states“Firearms are involved in the deaths of more than 30,000 people in the U.S. annually”(Issue Overview: Guns in America). This shouldn’t be happening and the government should be helping because innocent people are dying and they could prevent this. Moreover “The Uzi jumped back while she was firing and she accidentally shot Vacca in the head”(Fatal accident has nation asking: Why was a child allowed to fire an Uzi?By Los Angeles Times, adapted by Newsela staff09.01.14.They should know better because a little girl can’t handle an automatic weapon which is not safe.
Innocent people die and the government is not doing anything it’s government’s job to protect the people. However “a majority of states weakened their gun laws”(Issue Overview: Guns in America) and that's a problem because there needs to be more security so they can

For example, the article states “The accidental death of an instructor at a shooting range has begun a national debate on whether children should fire high-powered weapons.”(Fatal accident has nation asking: Why was a child allowed to fire an Uzi?By Los Angeles Times, adapted by Newsela staff09.01.14). Kids shouldn’t have access to guns even though they aren’t doing anything wrong but there are still possibilities something might go wrong but for their safety, there should be stronger laws enforcing gun laws. Moreover, the text says “ 20 first-graders killed in 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut(President, moved to tears by a memory of victims, unveils gun control planBy Associated Press, adapted by Newsela staff 01.06.16). We need better laws, we need to keep young people away from guns, we need a better government to help us achieve
In the article Gun Control Laws, by Stephen P. Halbrook, the author believes that gun control is not only useless, it puts citizens into harm's way and even takes away their rights. First, gun control does not keep people safe and protect them from shootings such as the one that happened in las vegas, it makes them more vulnerable and less prepared. In fact it has no effect whatsoever on these types of shootings because criminals have their own illegal ways to get guns. For example, France has far stricter gun laws than the U.S. Yet, 130 were slain, mostly with illegal guns, in the 2015 Paris attacks.” Also, police can not be always be their for every citizen in need, and having gun restrictions only makes matters worse. Families having a gun
Imagine a small, happy family with a mom, a dad, and a little baby girl. Now imagine them hiding together in fear in the corner of their house as a man holds them at gunpoint, robbing them of everything they have. They can’t defend themselves because there has been a recent ban on all handguns in the United States. Scenarios like this will happen every day if we allow more gun control laws to be put into effect. Guns are used in defensive ways 250,000 to 350,000 times a year (Barrett). Can you imagine America losing that many more people every year, all because they enforced laws that wouldn’t allow everyone to have a gun? Gun laws in the United States are effective as they are and do not need to be added to or changed. In order to truly understand why, it is important to examine the causes of the problem, the effects of the problem, and what is being done or what can be done to help solve the problem.
In a one year, almost 20,000 Americans suffer from nonfatal gun injuries, and 34,000 more, including over 3,000 children and teenagers, are killed by gunfire. “Federal and state laws are now required that will take the existing stockpile of 200 million guns out of the hands of ordinary citizens and prohibit the further sale and possession of handguns other than for people who have a legitimate, professional reason to carry them” (page 1). Certainly, people will kill each other its just human nature, but common sense shows that only with the aid of a firearm can they do it so efficiently and effectivly and in such large numbers. Also the other talk about many other things on how basically, guns don’t kill people, people kill people tone, and that grabbed my attention. The last paragraph in this journal was one of the best summaries I have heard on gun rights it stated. “It's time to put an end to the arguments about the meaning of the Second Amendment and come to terms with the social and political realities of the twenty-first century. Guns kill; it's what they're meant to do. And no spin by those stalwarts who insist on our right to carry guns can change the fact that their unregulated use has unleashed a murderous plague that kills and injures far too many victims every year. Yes, people will continue to kill each other even if we ban guns” (pg
Gun control is a very touchy subject. I don't believe that taking the guns away from the law abiding citizens is the correct way to go about this issue. The criminals are the ones not going thru the proper ways to buy a firearm. Right now there are 2 background checks that you go thru to buy a firearm. One is state and the other is federal. The Democrats believe there should be more background checks that potential gun owners should go thru. They also believe that banning certain guns and items for guns will help the issue. The most recent shooting was done with a handgun and a shotgun. There has been a big political debate over the gun control issue. How much is too much and how much is not enough? This is the real question. Some people feel
Initially, many lives have been taken due to the lack of gun control. For example, in 2012 there was a school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School where a man went into the school with a gun and shot 20 children between the ages of 6 and 7, and eight adults (“Sandy Hook Elementary shooting leaves 28 dead”). This tragedy is a perfect example because it shows young children's lives being taken away from them due to the lack of gun control laws. The government should make gun control laws more strict to help prevent major tragedies such as the “Sandy Hook Shooting”, and to save the lives of the people in this country. “The focus on the impact gun laws have on violent crimes is further under the microscope because of the recent rise of violent crimes and
The effectiveness within current gun policies in the United States of America have undeniably evoked debate, as the number of gun-inflicted fatalities continues to increase each year. An issue with such weight on a nation, has been regarded as being treated frivolously inside the United States, as many citizens query the degree of action that has been made to end this growing topic. The stance of enforcing stricter gun laws within the United States, such as limiting who may carry firearms by requiring background checks for all gun sales, has been argued by many. For many Americans, gun control can be regarded as either being the solution to reducing gun violence, or a complete violation to their Second Amendment. For an issue like gun control, that could possibly impact an entire nation, partiality becomes easily entangled in discussions that surround the topic. News sources inside the United States, such as The New York Times, as well as certain foreign news sources, such as Al Jazeera, employs data to support a particular position, rather than personal opinion. When analyzing certain sources from foreign countries, such as Pravda, and their account on the United States’ growing gun concern, there is an undeniable degree of extreme dogmatism surrounding the approach in solving gun-induced violence.
People could get firearms through the legitimate channel by having a handgun safety certificate, background check, and carry license in the United States. The gun control theme has been discussed in the last few years. The hot topic discussing that should we banned the right to own a gun as functional protection. Few people who owns a gun have few committing of violent crimes which like school shooting, suicide, and homicide in America. As the number of the gun holder increasing, the number of death rate increasing every year. For this horrible issue, there are four main reasons to support banning gun which including gun violence, mental health, second amendment, and the negative of self-defense.
“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” It is these words that give American citizens the right to own guns. These are also the words that allow shooting after shooting to take place in our country. The United States is in desperate need of stricter, more uniform gun control laws so that the country may become a safer place.
Every day in our country our citizens are faced with a huge epidemic of violence in their own streets, these streets have become a place where our elderly are beaten for their fixed income checks and their other sources of income, where smaller females are attacked and raped, where teen thugs shoot and kill each other for some “turf” to sell their illegal drugs, and finally where our small children are shot down in cold blood during drive by shootings. We try to ignore the fact that the criminals in our society and how they hurt it, but we shouldn’t. We should take the proper actions to stop these acts of crazy people in our society. And some brave enough people try, but the hard work of some misguided citizens attempt to stop the legal ownership
One way the United States addresses gun control and gun violence is through the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The Bureau is in charge of reducing the possible risk of public safety with illegal gun trafficking, criminal possession, and use of firearms, and enforcing compliance with federal laws, and regulation of the gun industry.
There are way too many innocent life had been taking way by the wrong use of firearm. In December 14, 2012 one of the most heartbreaking mass murder happen at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut. A 20-years-old Adam Lanza with a .22-caliber Savage MK II-Bolt action rifle and a Bushmaster XM15-E2S rifle broke in the elementary school and killed 27 people included his mom, 20 childrens in the ages of 6-7 and 6 school’s staffs members and shot himself at the scenes. Adam used all the firearms that registered under his mom’s name, source said she many times took him to the shooting range. Adam was also diagnosed with Asperger's also. All those childrens and adults did not do anything to him or even know him, they do not deserve to die like that. All those childrens would never have a chance to see their parent nor have a wonderful futures again. All those staffs would never come home to their family anymore.
Crime and guns seem to go hand in hand with one another, but in reality are the two really connected. Guns are powerful weapons that can cause destruction, harm, or death, but they could also be used to defend and protect citizens. If guns really lead to crime, does the government placing restrictions on guns will it help protect its citizens? The main responsibility of the government is to protect the basic rights of its citizens including the second amendment which gives the right for Americans to carry guns. The government also needs to make new laws to ensure the safety or well-being of their citizens. The government should not deny the right for people to carry guns but they could choose who buys the guns and what types of guns citizens
Yesterday, I found an article about firearms in the United States. It was written by Owen Gleiberman, on www.BBC.com. Supposedly, the article is a film review, but when reading it, I felt it was written like an editorial. Guns have always been a popular subject, but this article didn’t focus on the outlawing of guns. Instead, it focuses on the United States’ relationship with firearms, and the psychology behind gun rights activists. At one point, there is a claim that America is obsessed with guns. They support that claim by stating the fact that there are more gun shops in the United States, than McDonald’s and Starbucks combined. The article then points out many flaws in the way guns are bought; such as the lack of organization, and the amount
People of the United Sates should be able to carry a firearm in public places. The people should be able to carry a gun to protective themselves, their property, and their family. One government politician, Sen. Harry Ried said “he was now open to more gun control, observing that “something has to be one”. Another pro-gun politician Sen. Ted Cruz is for gun and own serval guns for protection of his home and family. Governor Rick Perry, a proud Texan and is a strong believer for all Texan to bear arms and keep that right. Rick Perry, has actually said “if the people of Texas lost the right, Texas and the US would separate”. As American, the bill of right protects us from the government talking away our guns, it is stated in the 2 amendment.
Society has morally degraded majorly. I hear my parents talk about how they didn't have to worry about if it's safe to go outside or not.If you joke about guns they send you to a psych ward. If you mention that you have a mental illness they're quick to label you insane. The cops aren't trying to keep the streets safe anymore, they're trying to keep them empty. People are willing to kill over political views. Kids want to own guns because music idols rap about the hood. You see the news talking about all the shootings around the word and all these protests people join together to do, it always turns violent. People cannot be peaceful about things anymore. When people see the police they get scared instead of feeling like they are being protected
