H-17 SERVICE PROVISION TO CLIENTS WITH THE VOCATIONAL GOAL OF SELF- EMPLOYMENT
PURPOSE:
NJDVRS may provide services to eligible clients whose vocational goal is self-employment. NJDVRS will be supportive but realistic about self-employment options. Starting a small business can be difficult and successful clients will tend to be those with a certain set of skills, personality traits, and an active support network.
The self-employment process requires a team effort among the client, the VR Counselor, and outside business consultants and resources. Each member of the team has certain responsibilities, with client commitment and involvement and with key ingredients in this process. The self-employment process used by NJDVRS is designed to ensure that those who complete the process have an excellent chance to launch a successful business.
DEFINITIONS
1) “Self-employment” means the client must have ownership in the business and be involved in the day to day operations.
2) “Business Plan” means a formal written document that fully describes the proposed business and covers such topics as products and services, market analysis and marketing plan, start up and continuing costs, and how the business will operate.
3) “Assessment” is the process by which it is determined that the client has the skills, attributes, and resources to be a business owner and the business idea is evaluated to see if it is reasonable.
4) “Start-up costs” are expenses such as initial stock and

This is similar to the national rate of self-employment, which was 8.1 percent in 1997. It is also higher than the self-employment rate among women, which was 6.6 percent in 1997. In rural areas, self-employment is an even more important source of employment—in 2002, 10.4 percent of workers in nonmetropolitan counties were self-employed, compared to 7.2 percent nationwide. And, in some rural areas, the role of self-employment is even more pronounced. For example, a recent study by the Center for Rural Affairs found that nonfarm proprietors constituted 22 percent of employment in rural farm counties throughout the Great Plains states”( 1).
Self-employed people will run their own business, they will be contracted to provide a service their clients. They will not be paid through PAYE and they do not have the same employment rights as employees or workers, Self-employed people will however still have protection for their health and safety on a client’s premises, they will have their rights and responsibilities set out in the terms of the contract with the client. They will not be entitled to holiday pay. They may however in some cases be classed as self-employed for tax purposes but classed as an employee or worker for employment rights. See point 2 Appendix

Individuals who work for themselves and make money to do so constitute as self-employment income. Independent contractors and sole proprietors are considered self-employed. They receive all payment without withholding any Social Security tax, Medicare tax, state tax, and etc. They do however have self-employment tax, which is taken out when the individual file Schedule C or C-EZ on their tax return. They would also need to file a Schedule SE. As of 2011, self-employment tax is 13.3% of the individual’s net earnings. Of

One advantage of a sole proprietorship is that compared to the other forms of ownership, there are minimal cost and paper work involved with forming it (Kelly & Williams 2017). It’s an advantage for entrepreneurs who are ready to start a business. The owner has complete control of the business and can operate it how he or she chooses. Another advantage of a sole proprietorship is the owner has a feeling of pride ant personal satisfaction. There are not many legal requirements for a sole proprietorship company to operate. Low monitoring charges among the investors gives the company the ability to make on the spot decisions (Baik, Lee &Lee 2015). Another reason the sole proprietorship company has an advantage is that there is a low chance of being threating by competitors.
Working by your own entails to make decision about your company every single day. For the most part everything relies on the business owner even if you have employees. An entrepreneur needs to ask and learn about their company as much as possible and frequently. Under the name of the owner or president, you are responsible to keep bringing work for your workers, payroll, materials, labor, clients keep up to date the accountant books, and with the state and federal treasury and the list goes on and on.
