Healing Hospital Culture Analysis

One of the changes in the healthcare is the fact that over the years the focus has shifted from mainly investing in technology to a healing hospital initiative. These hospitals provide a safe healing environment that aims to reduce the stress and anxiety associated with hospitalization. Furthermore, healing hospitals promote a culture of “Radical Loving Care “ and offer affordable, high quality care, which takes into consideration patient’s body mind and spirit.
As highlighted in “Creating Optimal Healing Environments in a Health Care Setting” by Zborowsky and Kreitzer healing is not synonymous with cure “which is about fixing problems, eradicating disease, and decreasing symptoms. People can be healed even if they are not cured. For example, those with a chronic disease can learn to be at peace despite their condition. Conversely, people may be cured but not healed.”(Zborowsky & Kreitzer, 2008, para. 2). Components of Healing Hospitals
Stress is a part of people’s lives, and most of them have found ways to cope with it. Admission to the hospital may increase stress levels. This culture “promotes the healing of patients through a holistic approach that meets not only the patient’s physical needs but also their emotional and spiritual needs” (Eberst, 2008, p. 3). It also reminds healthcare workers that when they chose this career they chose to serve those in need: "those who are well do not need a physician, but those who are sick do" (Luke 5:31). Healthcare workers are expected to provide compassionate care to all their patients without regard to their socioeconomic status, race, or ethnical background. This is the love described in the Good Samaritan
