When it comes to our health, a good healthcare plan is a very important subject for all individuals. Some even argue that it is a basic right to have one. Bernie Sanders stated, “Healthcare must be recognized as a right, not a privilege. Every man, woman, and child in our country should be able to access the health care they need regardless of their income…” (“Issues: Medicare for All”). However, reality tells us a whole different story. America is one of the most developed countries in the world with some of the best medical care. Yet, how can the people enjoy the benefits when it is almost unaffordable to most. People are afraid to fall sick just because they are afraid of how much it would cost. However, sometimes a doctor or hospital visit is unavoidable. In most cases, it comes at a great price, especially to the middle class and the elderly. Wealthy individuals are likely to reap the benefits of having an expensive healthcare plan, while the rest may suffer from the unimaginable cost of treatments, or even worse, live a risky life without insurance. An effective solution to this problem would be a Universal Healthcare System. This would ensure that all people have equal and affordable health coverage, centralized healthcare records for all individuals which will help easy diagnosis by doctors and reduce the intensive labor costs of medical billing. Moreover, it may boost the economy by freeing business from providing expensive healthcare benefits to workers. According to World Health Organization, “Universal Health Coverage means that all people and communities can use the promotive, preventive, curative, rehabilitative and palliative health services they need, of sufficient quality to be effective, while also ensuring that the use of these services does not expose the user to financial hardship”. (WHO.int) By doing so, we give the people the opportunity to be equal to the rest of the society. Since the cost of a healthcare plan is beyond most people’s budget in the United States, the average person spends more money on healthcare insurance than groceries and housing together. This condition leads many to have no coverage at all. In fact, there are over 45 million uninsured residents in the U.S. in it
In previous months, before the current President (Trump) tried to alter ObamaCare, ObamaCare actually made it that health insurance companies had to increase their prices. Premium coverage for one person is averaged at $321 per month, and for people that can get subsidies, the plan can range from $153- $498. And that’s not even including the medical bills and deductibles. (See source 7.) Thankfully, students at BYU-Idaho are granted the chance to pay for a student health insurance plan, making visits relatively cheap. ($10 co-pay on campus, prescriptions quite cheap, and $20 co-pay off campus.) Even so, with how cheap this insurance and some other insurance can be, there are people that simply cannot afford the bill.
I do not think we should be more concerned with the prevention of illness, but I do think that we need to incorporate it when we are treating patients. I believe if we educate the patients on how to prevent the illness for instance, if they are overweight and being treated for Diabetes, we need to explain to them what steps they can take to cure this illness. Also, treatment by itself is not a cure all but a very important part along with prevention in helping patients gets better especially since most health insurance companies offer classes and some will give you a monetary reward if you successfully complete the program. For instance, Blue Cross offers a program that will reimburse you at the end of the year when you complete a certain amount
Our topic is "Healthcare" I'm supporting this topic because it's important for us to be in a good health where you are capable of not getting any disease but also you don't have to pay if you have healthcare insurance. Healthcare insurance automatically pays for your family financial and covers those expensive costs, so if you don't healthcare insurance you will have to pay money from your own pocket. Based on some research that I made it says "people get less medical care and less time care if they are uninsured," this important if you as person really need the attention and the need for someone to look over you. One of the reasons why I support health care is because it could save lives, this is a way of keeping more people in this world
In today's world healthcare has become a problem for many individuals. It becomes a problem because they're stuck will all these bills that they still have to pay for medications, treatments, and other substances. Healthcare insurance automatically pays for your family finances and covers those expensive costs, so if you don't have healthcare insurance you will have to pay money from your own pocket. Healthcare has become less affordable for patients in this world! Once you have experienced health care you will know that there's some sort of change in your life.
Healthcare is very important: It gives you insurance for accidents, injuries, births and deaths. It could help a person pay for their elderly relative getting sick; for a new driver getting into a car accident; or a new baby entering the world. Healthcare is a topic that is usually overlooked, especially by millennials; which is one of the reasons I chose this topic. With the topic of healthcare constantly popping up left and right (and changing) over the past few months, it’s very important now more than ever to stay educated about the constant healthcare bill changes, and definitely if you are old enough and have enough money to legally own and pay for healthcare. And though, ironically, my family doesn't own any of the following types of healthcare, I will be talking about the three types of healthcare that have been talked about the most lately: “Obamacare,” (also known as the “Affordable Care Act/ACA,” a law put into effect by President Obama to try and improve people being able to get access to health insurance in 2012,) “Medicaid,” (A form of health insurance for the elderly, disabled people, and children,) and “CHIP,” (also known as “Children’s Health Insurance Program,” a basic program for families who make too much money for Medicaid, which provides low-cost health coverage for families, specifically children, and in some states, pregnant women.) And as of right now, these three forms of healthcare are in jeopardy.
People should be able to choose whether they want to have health insurance or not. It’s your choice into believing that you’re going to be healthy your entire life and something doesn’t happen to your body and starts acting a different way and you get real. I believe that in the end it should be your own choice but everyone should not always just rely on themselves because we may fail and we won’t have any back up. I say you should have health insurance because just to make sure that in the future something happens it’ll be taken care of and you won’t need to worry about having to ba a lot of money because you are very seriously in need for help.
Health care is a basic right that should be guaranteed to any American citizen with fair and unbiased treatment options. I remember the time when my biomed class went to visit to the local emergency room and I was overwhelmed by the sights that surrounded me. As we walked through the crowded hallways the nurses tried to explain how many people visit the emergency room with minor injuries or illnesses, simply because they do not have insurance and therefore cannot afford a regular doctor. The noises around me seemed to fade as my heart was breaking for these people. This fact was not new to me, but now I was seeing it play out before my eyes. A young woman sitting on a gurney outside of one of the rooms caught my eye. In one hand she was holding a cheeseburger, while in the other hand she was holding a young baby. Her face was wrinkled and her hair was tangled in knots, seeming to prove just how tired she was of her hard life. This is just a small example, one woman in one emergency room, but similar situations are occurring across the country every single day. The people of America are obsessed with the ideas of freedom and liberty, but proper health care must be provided in order for either of these ideas to be upheld. Although opponents of all-inclusive health care argue that these benefits will come unfairly come out of taxpayers pockets and that corporate businesses in the medical field cannot be controlled, these companies should be held responsible by preventing
Health care must be recognized as a right, not a privilege. Every man, woman and child in our country should be able to access the health care they need regardless of their income. We often hear that the American healthcare system is the best in the world. In reality, the United States ranked eleventh place for health care amongst developed nations in 2011 despite spending the most money. An analysis by The Common Wealth Fund included data on quality, access, efficiency, equity and the health of its citizens. According to the United States Census Bureau, 59.3% of U.S. citizens have health insurance related to employment, 27.8% have government-provided health-insurance; nearly 9% purchase health insurance directly, and 15.3% (45.7 million) were uninsured in 2007 before president Obama take office. Another study, by the Kaiser Commission on Medicaid and the Uninsured, estimated that 59 percent of uninsured adults have been uninsured for at least two years. The U.S. data is evidenced in a 2007 Consumer Reports study on the U.S. health care system which showed that the underinsured account for 24% of the U.S. population and live with emaciated health insurance that barely covers their medical needs and leaves them unprepared to pay for major medical expenses. When added to the population of uninsured approximately 16% of the U.S. population, a total of 40% of Americans ages 18–64 have insufficient access to healthcare, according to the Consumer Reports study. A 2003 report by
Year after year, millions of Americans suffer the hardships due to the inaccessibility of Health Care. Studies done by the US Census Bureau have shown that in 2014, 33 million people in the United States did not have health insurance. This raises problems in our society due to the fact that without Health Insurance, people who become seriously ill or are on the verge of losing their life are not able to be saved or kept alive. In my personal opinion, I believe that all people in the United States should have access to Health Care without having to give an arm and a leg to ensure that their family member will live.
One of the most common issues in American society is the issue regarding National Healthcare, or rather, the lack of a such a system. Currently, there are nearly 45,000,000 Americans without health insurance. As stated by Kay Ireland, a researcher on healthcare in America, about 45,000 of these people die every year due to being uninsured. Would National Healthcare satisfy Americans by solving the many issues that go along with the current healthcare system? Other countries with National Healthcare, such as Canada and England, have higher satisfaction rates than the United States. In order to save the citizens of the United States from the problematic healthcare system, National Health Care must be successfully established.
Several of us are watching the news right now waiting to see if Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Congress get the 50 out of 52 votes to repeal legislation and to begin the Obamacare debate. After the votes are counted the debate will start for Obamacare to be repealed or to not be repealed. Obamacare, also known as Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, was signed in March 2010 by Obama to “Include multiple provisions that would take effect over a matter of years, including the expansion of Medicaid eligibility, the establishment of health insurance exchanges and prohibiting health insurers from denying coverage due to pre-existing
An eighty-year-old woman, Marietta Wright, had a long and heart-breaking experience with health care system. Ms. Wright was due for surgery for what was thought to be a spinal compression fracture. Two days before her surgery a MRI showed that her spin was completely covered by cancer. The surgery was not cancelled to address the new-found cancer, so it when on as planned. The operation for something that did not even exist weakened Marrietta Wright's physical and mental health. Leaving her and her family in despair. As Marietta's conditions worsened a mistake was make and she was given the wrong dosage of antidepressants. Sending Ms. Wright's mental health over the edge. This is why it is critical that we reform health care, so that no more families have to go through the pain that Marietta Wright's family when through. When pursuing a career in nursing Health Care is the biggest issue in the industry, the quality is not of high standards, and it is far too costly, yet if we can lower cost, raise quality we will make Health Care a well-oiled machine this issue in the nursing industry will disappear.
In the United States today 700,000 Americans go bankrupt due to medical expenses and 20,000 Americans die because they cannot afford the costs of health care. Switzerland for example, everyone gets health care that is mandated by employers, they can get medical care from a basic doctor or buy a supplemental insurance to improve their care. Their prices are kept low because they cap prices and they are a nonprofit. For the U.S. to make health care more affordable we need to not let our health care be tied to our job because once you lose your job you lose your insurance. The Medicare edibility age now is 65 allowing the elderly to have that cheap medical care sooner than they most likely need it, which the age should be raised to 67 or higher, this would save 10's billions of dollars. With all of the new and advanced technology we have, we need to not proceed with unnecessary tests (CT scans, MRI, blood work) that costs thousands of dollars extra. Our country needs to work to model Switzerland's health care system, for everyone to get the right a necessary care that they need.
Attending a college is crucial to be successful as more young Americans continues with their bachelor degree. Potential employers require unique skills in today’s job market, and obtaining a college degree is a must to be competitive in the labor force. Deciding on a major study was not a simple task. With numerous of degree programs and job out there, making a final decision came along with deep thinking.
The United States of America is ranked 37 out of 190 in top health care systems in the world. These systems are ranked by quality, access, and cost. Our insurance is a very flawed system and is a disgrace when compared to several other countries. We have scored very low for a developed country which shows that our government needs to look at this and figure out how we can make it better.
