Problem Statement and Thesis According to forbes.com United States corporations spent over seventy billion dollars on training in 2014. That’s fifteen percent increase from the year prior. With this growth of training, training and organizational development professionals are in high demand. Forbes notes economic growth for this increase. With health care reform in the United States, healthcare organizations are seeing growth. Many health care organizations are focused on lowering their cost to cover the expected decrease in reimbursements. As the number of United States citizens with health coverage increases, insurers and regulator bodies are tightening their expectations on quality and safety. Health care organizations are spending millions on training and improvement initiatives are focused on decreasing waste and errors. By focusing on the following outcomes: cost and safety metrics; health care professionals may not be addressing cultural components and are allowing their initiatives to fail. …show more content…
The specific cultural components that will be explored are hierarchy, leadership and generation composition. How trainers and process improvement professionals capitalized on the relationship between physicians and their support staff will also be explored. For this research failure will not only be connected to the intervention activities, but also the practitioners, and perception of benefits and
A newest way to finance health care now days is the health care reform which it is also called Obama Care. The Affordable Care Act was signed into law in 2010. The main objective behind the Affordable Care Act was to ensure that affordable health care insurance was available to every U.S citizen. This law is an extensive document that contains many regulations and laws that relate not only to health care but also to the regulation of insurance companies. One of the best known regulations is that group health plans can no longer put limitations or deny benefits to individuals under the age of 19 due to pre-existing conditions and individuals under the age of 26, are now eligible to be covered under their parents’
The US pays twice as much yet lags other wealthy nations in such measures as infant mortality and life expectancy, which are among the most widely collected, hence easily compared, international statistics. Many people are underinsured, for example, in Colorado "of those with insurance for a full year, 36.3% were underinsured."[6][7] About 10.7 million insured Americans spend more than a quarter of their annual paychecks on health care because of the high deductible polices.[8]
In the United States, more than forty million people are without health insurance. Of these people, many are employed by firms that do not offer coverage and many others fall just below the poverty line. Many are poor but still do not qualify for Medicaid. At least twelve million of those without health insurance are children. Reliable sources indicate that the number of uninsured people could rise as high as sixty million by the year 2010.
I feel heath care reform was necessary, health care costs affect the economy, the federal budget, and virtually every American’s family’s financial well-being. According to Obama, “In 2008, the United States devoted 16% of the economy to health care, an increase of almost one-quarter since 1998 (when 13% of the economy was spent on health care), yet much of that spending did not translate into better outcomes for patients” (Obama, 2016, p.526). In 2008, 1 in 7 Americans did not have health insurance (Obama, 2016). Clearly something was wrong with the health care system in the United States. The United States spends more than twice as much on health care per person as other developed countries (Teitelbaum & Wilensky, 2015). If you worked for a company that did not provide health insurance, most people went without and used Emergency Rooms for primary care. I live in Massachusetts. Massachusetts was the only state in the country to require anyone over the age of 18 to have health insurance. If you didn’t, you were penalized with a monetary fine. There are many benefits to mandated Health Insurance. One benefit is if you become sick, you don’t have to worry about going bankrupt getting care. Secondly, the cost of health care will come down and finally the federal deficit will come down. The Affordable Care Act seems to be working. According to Obama “The Affordable Care Act had made significant progress toward solving
The Affordable Care Act, which expanded access to affordable healthcare across the country, has excluding coverage to the almost twelve million undocumented immigrants living in the United States (Nevarez, 2014). Excluding these members of the country has left it nearly impossible to obtain healthcare needs for these individuals. State laws suggest, undocumented immigrants are not allowed any assistance including federal subsidies in order to purchase medical coverage. Undocumented immigrants are also restricted against personally purchasing healthcare coverage through an insurance company, which leaves few options to obtain proper medical care (Nevarez, 2014). Statistics have found that over half of the undocumented population residing in
There is so little contradiction that government should be engaged in one way or another in creating a solution that gives Americans in need of medical assistance the right to life, liberty and the continued pursuit of happiness. The disagreements come in recognizing the failure of government to properly handle other socialized systems, the amount of government oversight that should be imposed, and the coverage that should be part of any comprehensive national healthcare solution.
Medicare is very important. It provides much needed support for the elderly and disabled. Medicare’s importance only continues to increase. In order to keep Medicare running, the program is in need of reform. There are a few ways this can be done. I believe the best way to stabilize the financial crisis of Medicare is to completely reform the program into a defined contribution program.
I am a firm believer in the fact that everyone deserves healthcare. Although the affordable healthcare act does promote health and does cover more screenings so that people can avoid delaying health problems, there are public policy implications that will affect the future of Medicare, Social Security and aging services. The Affordable Health Care Act requires every American to have health insurance and unless exempted, they must pay a penalty when they file their taxes. Businesses are cutting employees hours to avoid covering employees. Insurance companies cannot deny someone because of pre-existing health problems. Companies will have to pay up to cover health care costs and they cannot put a set dollar limit on coverage, which has caused
One of the top major issues in this 2016 presidential election between the Democratic Nominee Hillary Clinton against, the Republican nominee Donald Trump is, how make The USA Healthcare system more effective and efficient while reducing cost. Both Presidential candidates have suggested distinctly different proposals to reform current US healthcare system known as The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act which is, a comprehensive health care reform law enacted in March 2010 by President Obama. Mrs. Clinton agenda is to work within the existing ACA framework, furthermore she proposed additional policies intended to expand coverage, and reduce consumer out-of-pocket costs for individuals. Contrary to Hillary’s proposal, Mr. Trump’s agenda is to completely repeal Obamacare Act, and replace it with Market-Driven Health Care System also known free Market approach, as well as inclusion of patient-centered health care system principles. Numerous economist that analyzed Trump’s proposals come to conclusion, that healthcare market is fundamentally different from other industries, and cannot function efficiently and effetely in a traditional marketplace, because the differences factors which effects the demand and the supply side in economics of healthcare industry. This market have Unique Feature, such as, uncertainty and information asymmetries, furthermore adverse selection and moral hazard issue will get worse, also the spending for individuals as well as government in
“We will pass reform that lowers cost, promotes choice, and provides coverage that every American can count on. And we will do it this year.” The preceding is a powerful statement from the newly elected President Barak Obama. One of the main aspects of both political campaigns was health care reform. The above quote shows passion and encouragement, but the quotes about health care do not end there. Georgian republican gubernatorial candidate and health care policy maker John Oxendine expressed: “Their proposal would virtually devastate the private healthcare sector in this country along with competition and patient choice, by replacing it with bureaucratic planning and government control. The result of this plan and its one trillion
Impending, current, and new legislation shapes both the face and minute details of healthcare delivery in the United States. Currently the most dramatic changes have come from the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). The act has increased the number of insured patients, lowered reimbursements, restructured reimbursements based upon new criteria than previously utilized, and created additional mandates for health care providers and facilities. The changes and impacts for Trinity Community Hospital's (TCH) proposed new service lines will alter how these service lines are organized and how successful they will be going forward. Impending or new legislation in the future has the potential to improve health care for patient and provider
The Affordable Care Act (ACA) was signed into law March 23, 2010, and aims to increase the quality and affordability of health insurance, lower the uninsured rate by expanding public and private insurance, and contain the rising costs of health care for individuals and the government( APTA ,2013).
I am a big proponent of the health care department and the services that it provides especially when I couldn't afford health insurance. I feel that we really need to re-think how we are handling our substance abuse and mental health facilities.
Karen I enjoyed reading your post! The affordable care act was established in an attempt to resolve the many issues that the health care system was facing. Many believed that this new law is not in the best interest of the people and will eventually collapse because health care is becoming more expensive to afford (Relman 2013, p.1). Relman (2013) believed that “It expands and improves private insurance coverage, but provides no effective controls of the rising costs and no significant change in the way medical care is delivered” (Relman, 2013, p.1). The government interest is focus on how to make more money and profit. The quality of care given to the patients and the fact that the cost might be too high for patients to pay are not taking
Let me start by staying how affordable is affordable? The Affordable Care Act (ACA) otherwise known as the Obama Care is a health care coverage that is invented for those people who cannot afford to pay for high insurance cost. According to the market place (2014), most people who bought the insurance coverage stated that the “coverage is affordable”. This is factual for those people who have low income and are “paying under 125 dollars per month” Marketplace (2014).
