The ethical theory that underpins one’s perspective on nursing staff shortage is the utilitarianism theory since staffing of the healthcare facilities would lead to the greatest good for the greatest number of people. It would be important to put into place measures that bring little harm to the fewest people. As an advocate of utilitarianism, one would like to see the consequences that result from the actions of the policymakers rather than goodwill towards other people. The utilitarianism theory assists in decision-making regarding public policy development. As such, policymakers’ presumed goal that whatever money is appropriated will further the general good of society.

Mr. Hernandez has never felt unwelcome when he or his family were in a healthcare facility. He says that he trusts most doctors and nurses and feels a sense of relief when he is around them for services. The Hernandez family goes to their family doctor for regularly scheduled check-ups and also go to the dentist for regular cleanings and other care. He does not believe in any complimentary alternative medicines such as acupuncture, acupressure, or aromatherapy. There are no home difficulties which he can identify which might prevent him or his family from receiving health care.

During the last week I have had the pleasure of interviewing several individuals about their beliefs and how those beliefs affect how they would anticipate their own needs in a healthcare setting. I found that I also learned a lot about each individual’s faith, how their faiths affected their daily lives and their worldviews. I conducted four interviews in the last week and I believe that I have captured a diverse cross section of view on faith and reality from these individuals.

Between you and I we have said it all, you brought up the element of putting more doctors into the system, however, I read one study that stated MDs would rather work in major cities and not small towns. So, I believe the shortage will be handled by Nurse Practitioners (NPs) and Physician Assistants (PAs).

The career field I am interested in pursuing is the medical field. The field that I am most interested in pursuing specifically in the medical is a surgeon or physical therapist.

Looking into medical careers that interested me, there were many jobs that involve blood or needles and I am the person that does not like either of those. Taking advanced placement chemistry, I found the classes challenging, enjoyable, and I fell in love with science, especially chemistry. After extensive research, I decided to major in pharmacy, which I found to be a flexible degree. Not only is it flexible, it will allow me to help others because it offers careers in pharmaceutical companies to develop drugs. My main career objective is to be able to help others in a productive career that I enjoy.

The nurse manager I selected to interview is a Baccalaureate degree nurse and has attended several in-house training sessions related to her position within the hospital. She attended Lenoir Rhyne University to obtain her BSN and has been employed with the institution for 13 years and has been in nursing for nearly 20 years. She is currently certified as a Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) and is also a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner. The Hospital that she is employed with is a private hospital she manages a 15 bed emergency department and 6 bed express care facility, which also holds several involuntary commitments for several hours at a time waiting on placement.

Conway et al., (2010) stated that after a clinical adverse event, governing bodies and executive leadership commit to carry the burden forever, but carrying the burden is not enough. In this context, it is not only about accepting the fault, but investigating the solution. Bearing the burden in healthcare is about taking on the responsibility to ensure that everything possible is done to understand what happened and why it happened, and to prevent it from ever happening again (Conway et al., 2010). With the baby-boomer generation coming to its retirement the acute shortage of talented workforce is a major challenge before the US health care. There are a number of trends in health care that are currently affecting the workforce dynamics. The use of technology in health care has increased over time and increasingly health care organizations are adopting new technologies to make their services better. It is an important trend that has also affected the health care workforce. Increased use of Information Technology in the health care organizations has led to related changes in the composition of the workforce too. But not just this, there are also a number of other
