Healthy Brain team at The Illinois Department of Human Services’ Division of Mental Health is pleased to present this proposal for your view. We look forward to partnering with you to provide help for mentally ill college students at Cook County, Illinois. The objective of healthy Brain programs is to promote and improve the quality of mental health care to college students. With growing national concerns regarding the prevalence and complexity of mental and behavioral health issues among college students and the negative impact these disorders have on the health and safety of higher education communities, student retention, student learning/ academic progress, and the human potential of students.

This case is regarding a 45-year-old male with a history of brain injury and partial use of his extremities and contractures of his left elbow and shoulder. The patient was seeing a therapist for the last 6 months receiving water therapy and it was stated that he was improving really well. He was also left alone on more than one occasion and allowed to walk on his own with the use of a handrail; additionally, he wore a life vest flotation device. The pool area was also monitored by a lifeguard, however, on the day of the accident, no one knew where or what the person was doing at the time. The day of the incident the therapist was also working with another patient while he allowed the plaintiff to work out alone. An aide notice the plaintiff sunken completely under water and no one could explain how that happened with a life jacket on the plaintiff. It also includes that the therapist was only gone for 5 minutes.
When one thinks of campus safety one does not first think of protecting students and faculty from mentally ill students. Unfortunately, the case is becoming more common each year institutions are in session. In her interview, Baker makes that comment that, “most people who do have those mental health condition experience their first episode around college age” (Baker, 2014).
Every year around over six hundred thousand patients in the US go through chemo. Chemotherapy is a procedure that destroys cancer cells in patients who are suffering with cancer.Usually, when one thinks about a patient going through chemo their first thoughts might be “bald, pale or sickly” never does the term “chemo brain” come up through a typical conversation.
(In a hesitant voice) My 80-year-old mother was recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s but I’m still unsure as to whether she actually does have it. She’s a bit forgetful, but could that be because she’s old and old people tend to be forgetful. What are the other symptoms that could mean she has Alzheimer’s?
To continue, gold has other uses in the medical field along with treating brain disorders. This is because gold is able to absorb radiation. Radioactivity occurs when unstable atomic nuclei decompose to form nuclei with a higher stability. Energy and particles are released during the decomposition process causes radiation. There are three different types of radiation; alpha, beta and gamma. Alpha radiation is when an alpha particle, or helium nucleus, decays into an atom with a mass number that is reduced by four and an atomic number that is reduced by two. Idaho State University (2011) explained that beta radiation is when an electron is released from the nucleus of a radioactive atom, along with a particle called an antineutrino (para.
Nerve impulse is transmitted across synapse, which is the area between two adjacent neuron through the neurotransmitter; a chemical conducting substance. The presynaptic neuron-neuron that relays impulses toward the synapse releases neurotransmitters from the synaptic vesicles through the plasma membrane to the synaptic cleft, where they attach to protein on the plasma membrane of the postsynaptic neuron-neuron that relays impulses away from the synapse through the work of the action potential. This carries the electrical impulse from the first neuron axon to the synapse at the boutons(synaptic knobs) (McCance & Heuther, 2014).
In order to experience the best quality of life possible, you've got to become intentional about how you live your life. It's one thing to just go through life hoping that everything will work out. It's another thing to set things up to facilitate the best life possible. While there are factors you can't control, there are a lot of things that are within your control. For example, you may not be able to forsee a genetic thread that leads you to experience brain cancer, however you can live a lifestyle that is conducive to optimal brain health. There are a few factors to consider when it comes to brain health. Consider these four.
Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of neurocognitive disorder/dementia (p. 558, 2012), attacking the cerebral cortex. In the case of Tom, for him his brain deterioration was more of a biological process than anything or to be more specific he had Alzheimer's disease atrophy, this is where the brain start's to shrink, but this part of the normal aging process. From watching all three videos, it was obviously clear that Tom had trouble recalling certain events in his life, however he was able to remember to an extent. At one point in the video's, Tom started to forget to put his shirt one and sometimes he would forget to put his shoes on. Once the Alzheimer disease reaches this point, then it is only a matter of time before everything
Case Study One: Anne During the first case study, Anne uses many various brain areas and structures. I chose to focus on the Occipital Lobe, the Hypothalamus, and the Frontal Lobe. The Occipital Lobe is used when Anne looks outside and at the easel she is painting on. She must see the objects she is replicating as well as where she is painting.
CVA: I would discuss with my patient, family/carer that it is known as a stroke, or brain attack where the apart of the brain gets damaged because of lack of blood.
The internal factor affecting William is his head injury and the alcohol in his system.
The condition of a junior, single boy, who carry a moderate mental retardation, epilepsy, and post-octal psychosis, is characterized here. All the while psychosis, he considered that he was pregnant, and had relevant behavioral disorder. The inspection of other such conditions acknowledge that biological brain disturbance was obvious in all cases. Disturbance in the brain imply to be the more likely causative factor than psychodynamic
the human brain can be burdened with various diseases and disorders. Since the brain acts as the bodies control system, any malfunctions can result in serious problems to the entire system, including memory, sensation, and even personality; factors such as illness, genetics, and trauma are a few of the main things that cause Brain disorders. (Brain Disorders) Degenerative diseases, psychiatric diseases, brain tumors, brain injuries, and addiction are some major illnesses that come into play. Degenerative diseases are passed down through generations; an enormous forty five million people are affected by these conditions, all across the world. Alzheimer's, ALS, huntington's, and parkinson's disease are all categorized as degenerative diseases. Depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar disorder are classifies as non other than psychiatric disorders; luckily, these disorders can be treated with therapy. There is a variety of auspicious options that can be chosen from accordingly for the patient. Additionally, many individuals suffer from addiction; while everyone is at risk of addiction in some way shape or form, a few are at higher risk than others. When a person is suffering from this dreadful condition, they do not think rationally, and tend to act upon impulses; the craving is at such an intensity in some cases, that the individual is willing to put everything at risk, and disregard whatever the consequences may be. Biologically, the chemical makeup and structure of the brain itself undergoes alterations under the circumstances that the individual repeats his or her use of drugs. By exciting the nerves within the reward center of the brain, the recipient experiences a feeling of thrill themselves. (Brain Facts) When a brain undergoes a serious blunt trauma, There is a high chance that brain tissue, neurons, or nerves could have been severely ravaged, and this may lead to a variation of negative conditions; hematomas, blood clots, contusions (bruising of the brain tissue), concussions, strokes, and cerebral edema (swelling within the skull of a person) are all high on the list of disorders caused by injury to the brain. The ability to connect with the rest of the human body may be very distorted, therefore,
Through neurological processes, pattern-recognition, and analytical resolutions that the human brain achieves when interpreting sound, unknown scientific truths and developments of society can be exposed through various examinations of auditory data in conjunction with traditional visual data.
The brain has four main structures; the Cerebrum, Cerebellum, Limbic System, and the Brain Stem. The Cerebrum, also known as the Cerebral Cortex, is the largest part of the human brain. It is divided into four parts that are called “lobes”: there 's the frontal lobe which is linked with reasoning, planning, parts of speech, emotions, and problem solving- the parietal lobe which is linked to movement, orientation, and recognitions- the occipital lobe which is linked to visual processing like object and spatial recognition, and the fourth one which is the temporal lobe that is linked to the perception and recognition of memory, speech, and sounds. The Cerebellum, also known as the “little brain”, is linked to coordination, movement, posture, and balance. The limbic system usually referred to as the “emotional brain” is located inside the cerebrum and it is tied onto our emotions and more importantly, our survival mode. Lastly, there is the brain stem that is in charge of basic life functions like breathings, our heart beating, and blood pressure. All of these four brain functions have key important roles on our everyday lives, but is there anything that can affect them? The brain happens to actually be affected by many things, either from accidents, or emotional pain that leads to depression, the brain grows differently depending on its external stimuli, and a great example of this would be music.
