Help Our Environment

I chose this program as my research because it is related to my major, and I can use this knowledge to further my mastery of environmental engineering. Nowadays, many people have a responsibility to take care of the Mother Earth, and “green” activities must take action from now onwards because actions speak louder than words.

While I certainly do not consider myself one who is particularly concerned with the environment, I do enjoy God’s creation and find that making my little corner of the world friendly for a wide variety of flora, fauna, and animal life brings an amount of satisfaction to me. Therefore, my three goals tie into things that are already important to me.

I hope this proposal will assist the reader in understanding our Earth’s critical condition and ways even an individual can attribute to the betterment of our environment.

I currently help service the community by giving back time through volunteering at different non-profit organizations as well as being involved with MSU Tutoring in the Office of Community Service at Morgan State University. I currently help the environment by recycling and volunteering at the Howard Peters Rawlings Conservatory and Botanic Gardens of Baltimore once a month. Before I graduate from Morgan State University I would like to create an Environmental Organization that focuses on consumption, recycle, and disposal issues within the Black Community. Once I am stationed on a Naval base I would get involved with the local community by empowering, and educating youth on STEM majors, especially minority females. I want future generations to know there are diverse career opportunities that differ from the standard teacher, doctor, and lawyer responses usually heard in school. An experience that has greatly influenced my understanding of the world has been my participation in Florida Atlantic University’s Pine Jog Fellowship. The Pine Jog Fellowship is a three-semester program that focuses on environmental improvement and education. In the Pine Jog Fellowship I have had the opportunity to develop my own environmental service projects that would benefit my community. During one semester of my fellowship, I coordinated beach clean-ups for Lake Worth Beach. I recruited over sixty people and collectively, we recycled and threw away over one hundred pounds of trash off of Lake Worth Beach. I also spoke to local fishermen and educated them on the dangers of throwing monofilament fishing line into the ocean. During the

I disagree with the statement, “It’s not my job. Let somebody else do it.” To me, this phrase is saying that you don’t have a part in doing something. Helping the environment is just one-way people can help. Each person has their own part in helping the environment, whether it’s picking up trash or planting plants. Helping the environment is something that everyone can be a part of and trying to make it a stronger place.

Have you ever wondered where majority of the air pollution comes from and how it’s caused since half of the population here in the San Joaquin Valley are affected due to the contamination of the air. Many people around the world question themselves of air pollution but don’t know where it comes from. It's noticeable for example pesticides, ozone levels rising, vehicle pollution, toxic waste burning, wildfires, and the list goes on. The San Joaquin Valley for many have been battling for better air quality but instead of getting better it seems to be getting worse. The air quality can contribute to dangerous health issues and environmental effects. We humans aren't the only ones who are suffering from these devastating chemicals being used on a daily basis. Humans in general, Environmental Protection Agency, or California have to find ways or solutions to limit the usage of any type of air pollution being spread all around the world. However, air pollution contributes to several health problems that can either be longer term effect or short term effect. Through working with clubs within my school and community I have volunteered at a number of river and road cleanups. The pollution in my town is overwhelming when you are the one cleaning up the environment and it makes one stop and think about why their community would not take better care of the earth. As an ambassador for the National Society of High School Scholars I would be able to inspire my generation to take better care of the earth by recycling and not littering. Few of my concerns is if there is a way to clean the air country's like this should put together a saving programme so they can have a cleaner source of energy which could be like applying for a grant for solar energy which, in this case, they will be using the sun for clean energy which may take away smog and provide cleaner air. Why is it important to have clean air? Because it makes it easier to breathe on the lungs and the oxygen in the air that helps keep you alive. A reduction in my ecological footprint may not save the Earth, but it will make a difference. I will be taking many steps these next few weeks to reduce my impact, and I plan on continuing these lifestyle changes

By doing this project, my health will increase in many ways. During the time that we are going to be outside, we will be active and moving around a lot, so that would be considered exercising, which is very good for you. Also, being outside for a long amount of time releases a hormone called “serotonin”, and makes you joyful, having a mentally positive affect. My health will improve after doing this project. Decreasing pollution will make the air healthier to breathe. Not only will it be healthier for us, but it will improve the health of the plants breathing the air in our desert. This will cause them to make oxygen more efficiently decreasing greenhouse gas effects.
