Hera, the jealous wife and sister of Zeus has many roles to fill. In my opinion, she one of the most powerful Goddesses out there. The fact that she is Zeus’s wife and can curse anyone out just like in the story “Echo” is amazing. Moving onto the facts, she is the Goddess of marriage, women, and childbirth (Nelson). Being the Goddess of marriage and women, she protects women in childbirth and often punished offending husbands (Alchin). Hera is defined as “the lady” and her symbol is most often the peacock (Michael).
The wife of Zeus is one heck of a role itself, but being his sister is insane! She is the sister of Zeus, Hades and Poseidon and the sister of Hestia and Demeter, She is the daughter of Cronus and Rhea. She had 3 children which were Ares, Hephaestus, Hebe, Eris and Eileithyia (Alchin). Two interesting thing is that Hera threw out Hephaestus from Olympus for being deformed (Nelson) and that Hera and her brothers and sisters were swallowed alive from birth by Cronus because he heard a rumor that his kids would overthrow him. Zeus was the youngest and the first one to escape from this fate. Zeus eventually saved everyone else (Nelson).
Now being the jealous wife of Zeus, I am sure Hera is multitasking dealing with the many wives of Zeus and protecting women in childbirth. Zeus having multiple affairs led Hera to be doing what she does in the Greek Myth Echo. Echo is trying to by time or distract Hera by talking to her to let Zeus and other nymphs escape. Echo
“Since Zeus swallowed his wife when she was pregnant he allowed one of the other gods to split open his head, and out came not a son but a beautiful full-grown daughter in full armor” (Athena pag.). She was born on the river of Triton in Egypt (Athene 2000). Athena was one of Zeus’s ever trusted people that he told her where his magic shield and where the lightning bolts were. Ever since Zeus told her that she remained his constant advisor through everything (Athena pag). Athena was a very trusted person, but her battle skills are very impressive and interesting as well.
Zeus’s sister and like Athena and artemis, a virgin goddess. No distinct personality. Goddess of the hearth, the symbol of the home.
Especially after Io’s entrance and the recount of her story, Hera seems more like a jealous wife than the noble queen she is presented as in Hesiod’s work. Her attitude towards Io is blamed on Zeus, who has not only provoked Hera’s actions but is her husband and thus responsible for Hera, as it was customary in ancient Greece.
are in a time of trouble. Hera, also known as Juno, was the Olympian goddess of marriage and family. Not only did Hera rule over marriage and family, but she also ruled over women and the heavens. Although she was a goddess, she was also known for her jealous and vengeful nature. Hera was a very important symbol in Greek mythology and literature. Because she possesses many characteristics of a hero, but still acts as a villain sometimes, I consider Hera a hero and a villain.
Hera, the Greek goddess of childbirth and marriage, was the wife and sister of Zeus. She was the Queen of Olympian Deities. People knew her as the most beautiful and powerful goddess, but she had a bad side to her.
Hera Juno is a jealous and angry goddess while dealing with Zeus and his many mistresses. Even though Zeus and Hera are both married, Zeus falls in love with many other women. Her jealousy guides her to "punishing the many women Zeus falls in love [with]... [no matter] how innocent [the women are]" (Hamilton, Mythology,27). Hera's jealousy guides her to disempower women because of her husband , who is culpable, lies with them. Hera does not attempt to fix her marriage at all. Her anger gets the best of her even if the women "yielded only because he coerced or tricked them" (Hamilton,27). She does not care if Zeus, himself, tricks the women; She only sees it as their fault. Hera simply lets Zeus get away with whatever he wants.
She was called the “Queen of Heaven’. Hera was a powerful queen in her right. Her symbols area: Cattle, Peafowl, Pomegranate, Lion, Diadem, Sceptre, Sacred Lotus, Lily, Cuckoos, Black Panther, Feather, and Throne. She was Zeus’s wife and sister. Hera was the reigning female goddess of olympus because she was Zeus’s wife.
Daughter of Cronus and Rhea, sister of Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, and Hestia. Mother of eight children.
Hestia, that was worried with her brother, decided to help Hera find out what have happen and where he was. Hestia started looking for Zeus but after some time she told Hera she wouldn’t help her anymore, without explaining the reason. Hera was distrusting this situation, first Zeus disappeared, and now his sister, after agreeing that she was going to help Hera, changed her mind.
Their primary belief laid in Gods, of which the most important were Zeus, Hera, Apollo and Athena. Zeus, the king of the gods, and his wife Hera resided on mount Olympus. Of their children, Apollo was one of the better known; he was recognized by many things, amongst which were youth, music, healing, prophecy, plague and much more. Another well-known child of Zeus was, Athena. Athena was most widely known as the goddess of wisdom, but also a warrior goddess.
Although Zeus was Hera’s brother, as they grew up eventually they got married. It might seem weird to you but don’t call it weird because it
Zeus was not known for being a very loyal partner seeing as though he had many wives. Reasonably, Hera was extremely jealous of his infidelity with mortals, yet she was still able to control her anger. But eventually Zeus drove her over the edge.
Zeus used to cheat on Hera and she would get back at him and his mistresses. One of the most famous myth is that Zeus had mistresses on earth and they had a baby and Hera sent to serpents to kill the baby but the baby was half god so when the serpents tried to killed the baby, he tied the two serpents together. When Hera found out he was cheating she grabbed a gold chain and tied it around him when he was sleeping when he woke up he got so mad at Hera and kept her in a basement for a while and gave up because of Hera’s crying. He let her go and they promised each other they will stay faithful together and won’t tried to get back at each other. I think it’s important to know about this myth how Zeus would always cheat and how Hera would she would get back at her.Zeus and Hera wasn’t always a perfect couple but they are always trying their best to be faithful to each other. I think it’s important to know about these myths to see how Hera and Zeus marriage was really like. I think the most interesting thing about these myth’s is how Hera was not afraid to hurt anyone. Not everyone has a perfect
Hera or her Roman name Juno, the Greek goddess of childbirth and marriage, was the wife and sister of Zeus. She was the Queen of Olympian Deities and the daughter of Cronus and Rhea. At the time of birth, Cronus swallowed the children including Hera. Rhea tricked Cronus into eating a rock instead of Zeus who was the last child. Zeus eventually got away and overthrew Cronus. He restored into wrath in order to win Hera over, and transformed himself into a sad-looking cuckoo, soaked from a thunderstorm (Pontikis). She fell for the bird and they eventually got married and had children. However, Zeus had many affairs, even after his marriage, cheating on Hera with several mortals ( Pontikis). Hera had a tough marriage but lived out her life with
Zeus was the god of the skies and ruler of the Olympian gods. He was married to his sister Hera and also the father of Hercules. He lived in the clouds and controlled the weather. Zeus was the king of Mount Olympia. He also was the lord of justice and punished anyone who disobeys his laws. He did not punish the people who were obeying his rules.
