Since we first entered the building of information we have been told that education will change our lives. People say that if you don't have a good education you will not be successful in life. A high school diploma many people feel satisfied with because they feel like they will not be able to go to college. On the other hand, a college degree can open many doors for you. Now I took the liberty of interviewing a very close person to me that did not go to college and asked him some questions about college. The person that I interviewed is my older cousin Darrell. I sat my cousin down and told him I will be asking a variety of questions of why he didn’t go to college. I interviewed him because I for one would like to go to college but i was curious on why he didn't go when he had the chance. First question I asked was obviously, did you go to college? He said that he didn’t go to college. The next question I asked was why didn't he go to college. Darrell responded, “school wasn’t something that really interested me; me being in high school was just moving too slow

Did you going to or not going to college better your life? There are many different opinions when it comes to this question. Some may say not going to college is a bad choice for one to make. Now going to college and finishing college are two different things. Some say finishing college is a one way ticket to getting the job you always wanted as a career. In college they have majors, and some people that graduate college whatever major they had usually will be their career choice of a job. Others say that not finishing college will be a disappointment because it’s most likely that you won’t get the job that you dreamed about getting. Also not finishing college is a waste of time and money. If you plan on going to college you should finish because college tuition and costs have
A college degree is a valuable asset that could ultimately lead to a productive life in society due to the received education, but people without a college degree do turn out more than adequate in regards to societal success. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, of the forecasted 30 fastest growing jobs between 2010 and 2020, five do not require a high school diploma, nine require a high school diploma, four require an associate 's degree, six require a bachelor 's degree, and six require graduate degrees to get the jobs (College). In an article called “College Education” by ProCon.org,
Colleges and Universities are windows of knowledge that many people try to break, in doing so, people are ready for the next stage of their life. But not many have the option to go the world where knowledge is everything, and end being a simple worker all his life. People would judge a person for not having a degree, bachelor and many more. But do they ever think that colleges or universities are really preparing you for any jobs, does a piece of paper worth a lot now a days. Freeman Hrabowski wrote an article responding to people that think educations is a waste of time, and it is called “College Prepare People for life” (Hrabowski). In the article he mentions many positive thing about going to college and what is the outcome of going to college. But I believe that, he hasn’t done a very good job to explain why college is a good place to go prepare yourself for the real world. I believe that college is very important for our life, but not many of us know if we are really learning something while being in college. I feel like colleges or universities has become a place where we go just to go or try to earn a degree in any field. Therefore, I believe that colleges doesn’t enhance our basic skills, doesn’t give us a certainty of us getting a good job, doesn’t give us the hardships of the real world and it isn’t a place where everyone gets treated it equally.
Growing up, we are all told to go to college and get a degree. This is simply because of the power and value a college degree holds. Having a college degree is a ticket that can help you get any kind of job you want. In Class Matters, there are people with different thoughts about a college degree. “The aluminum factory could get him into middle-class security quicker than a bachelors degree could” (Egan, Timothy 108). This was quoted from a man in the book named Mark McClellan, a pest controller. He feels that he doesn’t need a degree because he can just work for the same amount of money that a degree can help you get. He might be right but without a college degree you will be limited to what kind of jobs you can get, if any will hire you at all. With a college degree, “The world is yours,” you can get any job you want. A degree seems like it is nothing but a piece of paper
In the article “We send to many students to college,” Marty Nemko discusses how college may not be the answer for everyone, and how a person can be successful without college. Nemko argues that it is most likely that a person that is at the bottom half of their graduating class in high school is not going to earn a diploma while in college. Nemko also says that a person that has been to college could end up working a job that a non-college graduate would be working because of the degree that a person has is useless. Many may think that a person that has a college degree is better off, but a person that didn’t graduate may work harder, and be more motivated in life to accomplish the goals they have set for themselves. According to Nemko “Colleges
In their essay “Should Everyone Go to college,” a part of the book They Say I Say, Stephanie Owen and Isabel Sawhill explore the advantages and disadvantages of college and examine the value of college for all individuals. Owen and Sawhills’ purpose is to put an end to the belief that a four-year degree is necessary to be successful. They adopt an informative tone to influence readers to open their minds to a new belief that college is still important but not mandatory for every student. Owen and Sawhill argue that the proposition that college is a requirement to be economically successful has failed to recognize that not everyone is created equally by reminding readers that many factors play into whether college is the right option for someone.
Source D states that “education seems to make people happier and healthier,” so it could help the college student do better in college for higher degrees for a career that earns more money. College also prepares young adults to be more mature after graduating, so they can be wiser about having a successful future. Smart choices in an adult’s career or life can be beneficial because their decisions could open up better opportunities for themselves, and their skills in life and career could be improved to become more successful. College graduates said that “their education was very useful in growing intellectually, helping them grow and mature as a person, and helping them prepare for a job or career” (Source
In today’s society, the idea of receiving a college education has been pondered quite a bit as to whether or not it is actually worth it. According to Michelle Adam, many people “…today believe that getting a good education is key to success in our society, this revealed surprising issues that challenge the notion of higher education being worth its price tag” (59). Naturally, many high school graduates apply for college right before or after graduation. Others decide to go into the work force, armed forces, or simply remain unemployed. The question that many people debate about is, is a college education worth it in the long run? Though some people believe a college education will benefit ones’ career, others believe it will cause a mass
For as long as I could remember, my whole family would constantly tell me how important education is. Every day my father would say that if I wanted a stable life and a well-paying job that I needed to stay in school and go to college unless I wanted to be flipping burgers for the rest of my life. Even now that I am in college, I am still being reminded how education can take you anywhere. College can open many doors for people that want a better life and a well-paying job. Obtaining a college degree can benefit someone in the long run and also prepare them for the real world.
Having lived through the current economic recession, I am aware that a diploma cannot be a guarantee for success. However, I realize that a college education can open a plethora of doors to create the opportunities needed to
People think that having a college education is a pathway to success in life. However, what exactly is a college education? The actual meaning of it is “an optional final stage of formal learning that occurs after completion of secondary education.” By this definition, it is the highest level of an education before it allows us to step into the real world and start our career from everything that has been learned in college. It is also an optional opportunity for students to pursue if they choose to. Before entering college, I thought it was a place just to seek a degree to get a job satisfaction that I’ll be interested in and receive all kinds of benefits after college. What a college education really gives are many benefits for those that
According to ‘Is College Worth it?’, it states “It is not the amount of knowledge that makes a brain. It is not even the distribution of the knowledge. It is the interconnectedness.”-James Gleick. Also, in ‘Five Ways Ed Pays’, it mentions how college graduates are more likely to be an active family member and an active community member. The video states “Children of parents with a college degree are much more likely to be read to every day than children of parents with only a high school diploma.”, showing that 41% of children were read to with parents of a High School Diploma, compared to 68% of children being read to with parents of a 4-year College Degree. The video also states, 40% of High School Diploma individuals in the age range of 18 to 24 are likely to vote in the 2008 election compared to the 70% of 4-year college diploma individuals who are more likely to vote. ‘Five Ways Ed Pays’ also showed that 43% of college graduates were more likely to volunteer as to the 19% of high school graduates likely to volunteer, stating that “Individuals with a college degree are more than twice as likely to volunteer as those with only a high school diploma.” All the information accumulated proves that college also improves a person’s social skills and improves the way they interact with those around
College is shown to even help in fields where à degree is not necessarily needed. College can teach à person, people skills, how to manage, and many things besides the information itself. College may be very expensive, but in the end it is shown to be worth every
On April 18th at Greene Central High School, I chose to interview one of our phenomenal counselors, Chris Campbell. When I confronted him and asked to interview him, he immediately accepted the offer. I chose to interview him for many reason. One reason being that working as a high school counselor definitely doesn’t seem like it’d be the easiest job in the world. High school is a very tough time in a teen’s life. It’s all focused on preparing you for the outside world and if we didn’t have people like Mr. Campbell, students wouldn’t have as much motivation as they do to do well and graduate. I also chose to interview him simply because I knew he would tell me everything I would need to know and more!
I interviewed,LaShardar Wells, regarding a pivotal moment in high school. In her own words this is the information I discovered in the interview. “I currently work in Capital One’s Financial Intelligence Unit as an Anti Money Laundering Investigator. “I’m married along with a child and is successful in my career. I also, graduated 16 th in my class and took college courses while still in highschool.” This pivotal point in my life gave me the drive I needed to become successful.”
When I was in high school I applied to a few different establishments and the couple times I was called in for an interview, I was a bumbling mess. The only thing I remember about my first interview was that the interviewer had to tell me multiple times to just relax and afterwards I never heard back from them. I was not prepared for that interview and it is not surprising that I did not get the job. The only reason I was able to get a job in high school was because my mom contacted a family friend who owned multiple garden centers. Once I was able enter the working world, grew more comfortable with speaking to employers and was able to feel more comfortable in my future interviews. I had interviewed at Parks library during my sophomore year of college and, while nervous, was able to present myself in a professional manor and answer question thoroughly as well as keeping them personal which aided in me getting the job. The interview for my current job, a checker at a grocery store, was the best interview yet because I was able to build a good rapport and be personal with the interviewer. Before the interview, I did a lot more research on the company and figured out what they value and expect in their employees and was able to maneuver my answers into the best light, allowing me to look like a choice candidate. My preparation helped me become more confident and I ended up hired on the spot. I still had some things I struggled with during this interview, one of them
