There are many different religions in the world. Each religion has a vast array of beliefs and followers. There are aspects that most religions share in some way. Each group associated with these religions believe that they are worshiping and practicing the right thing in the right way. Every religion can be compared to find similarities and differences. Hinduism and Christianity are two religions seemingly very different. It is possible to explore the similarities and differences between Hinduism and Christianity on their belief in God or gods, if and what is after death, and their ethical beliefs. Hinduism is a religion that can be difficult to understand in a Western world. In the Western world where the majority of people are monotheistic the Hindu beliefs can be difficult to grasp. Hindus worship a number of gods and spirits, but these numerous spirits are all parts of …show more content…
Both religions believe that something happens after you die. What happens is different but they both have an idea about this issue. Both Hinduism and Christianity have a punishment for not following moral rules, such as, going to Hell or being reincarnated. There are many differences between Hinduism and Christianity on death. In Christianity there is only one life and a person’s actions in that life are factors in deciding if a follower will go to Heaven or Hell. In Hinduism however, bad actions cause a person to be stuck on Earth, and they will continue to stay here until they learn about their mistakes. Both religions have ethical beliefs as well. Each religion has beliefs on how to treat people, animals, opinions on war, and modern medical and technological advances. In Hindu culture eating a cow is forbidden because cows are sacred. Hinduism promotes non-violence. Non-violence is promoted by things such as treating people with kindness and finding ways that cause the least harm to
Buddhism and Hinduism come from the same region, India. Both of them are very focused on nature, the things around them, though they both believe in several hells and heavens, or higher and lower worlds. They both believe in karma which is the affect a person’s actions in this life will change his next life. Another point is that both religions focus on peace, and non violence towards all living things. They are compassionate, which ties into their focus on nature. Buddhism and Hinduism also believe in various spiritual practices such as meditation, concentration, and states of mind. Desire is the largest cause of suffering in both of the faiths. Another likeness is they both believe in reincarnation, and salvation. They believe the good deeds of a person are their work for salvation and their salvation will decide their next life, when they are reincarnated. Also, they both believe that there are many paths to enlightenment, such as overcoming your feelings and controlling over the six senses. Both religions are more philosophical then religious. Buddhists and Hindus both practice many forms of yoga and meditation
When looking at Christianity and Hinduism there are many ways to look at each religion from a theological perspective. This is why the best way to look at the broad view of these religions would be to analyze each by comparing and contrasting what each religion is about. The first point to look at would be at how Hinduism and Christianity are very similar in how they view the world. This can be seen in how they both strive to achieve a state of higher being whether it be with the eternal state of Moksha or eternal life in heaven with God. They both also look to be more introspective of themselves in order to maintain a good relationship with their higher being. This can be seen with Christians trying their hardest to maintain their faithfulness to God (Letter to the Romans, Reader p. 200) or Hindus making sure to maintain their duties in their caste in order to climb the system (Bhagavad Gita, Reader p. 75). Another comparison would be that Christianity follows the “Golden Rule” which is better known in the Hindu religion as karma. This is an important cornerstone to both religions because it creates a system of justice for both religions to follow. To truly examine these two religions one must also look at the differences that each religion has to each other that make them each a unique belief. A main difference would be that Christianity focuses more on the short term while Hinduism focuses more on the long term. Another difference is the rewards that a Christian
The differences between Hinduism and Abrahamic Religions are many. The primary difference of beliefs is that Abrahamic Religion believes that there is one God. Hinduism beliefs vary being Pantheistic, monotheistic and polytheistic it is one of the most complex religions of the world. In the comparison of Hinduism and Abrahamic Religion differ on their concept of God. Along with their differences on the concept of God the Hindu’s and Abrahamic Religions also differ on their concept of man’s destiny. Finally Hindu’s and Abrahamic Religions also differ on their concept of Salvation.
The English word religion loosely translates into “rules” in Latin. Therefore, a religion teaches us how to think, how to act, and basically everything except what to eat in the morning. The Hindu and Christian religion agree on many things and our society follows some of the rules too because religion and laws are based on humanity. From holy literature many different ideas have been pawned but they are all supposed to lead you to the same things: a happy, healthy life, contribution to the world around us, and some kind of liberation after death. Concerning these ideals the Hindu religion has come up with three ways to make sure that everybody will get what they want out of life and those are the four
Though many have the some of the same teachings, Hinduism, Judaism, and Christianity all have different afterlife's. I will start of first with the afterlife of Hinduism, in the Hindu religion there is a “heavenly paradise enjoyed by the souls of those who died with a ponderance of good karma but who must still undergo at least one more stay on earth” (ABH 456).They are allowed to stay in this heavenly paradise for only a certain amount of time before they have to go back to earth to perform the rest of their duties. After the person has finally achieved perfection back on earth, instead of going back to paradise they become reunited with the the Brahman, also called the soul of the universe.
Both of the religions Hinduism and Judaism are similar but different in their own ways. Hinduism worships many gods and goddesses, whereas Judaism is a confirmedly monotheistic religion. In the Hinduism religion the bedrock is the belief that the Vedas is sacred and the caste system decribed in it. “Hinduism is a guide to life, and the goal of which is to reach union with Brahman, the unchanging ultimate reality”(75). The dharma or moral law that need to be followed. There are many gods that were worshiped and each person may worship a different god. Images of the gods in homes or temples were presented where each person can show devotion to their personal gods by singing hymns or offering flowers before the images. The Hindus believe in many things such as that the universe undergoes and endless cycle of creation, believe in karma, that the soul reincarnates, the belief that all life is sacred.
Both religions understate the role of gods in people's life but instead focus on the responsibility of an individual to create his fate as seen by the concept of karma and rebirth. These ideas were meant to increase the emphasis on individual action as opposed to Hinduism where God plays a critical role in a person's life and destiny. They have similarities concerning the existence of god and his nature, nirvana, yoga, and karma. However, the differences arise in their ideas of transmigration of souls, the extent of nonviolence and the concept of the
One similar concept is that there is only one true God, Although Hinduism is considered a polytheistic religion, Hindus believe in Brahman, who has multiple different forms, but truly is one God, and Muslims believe in Allah, and Prophet Muhammad as well. Another concept is they both have a duty to do “good” in life. Hindus have karma, which is their moral duty to do good and if they do “bad,” then they will be punished in the cycle of samsara. Muslims believe in Kifarah, which “is the return of God in the world of sin committed by a servant, God tests also may occur, which may involve the death of a loved one, loss of property or illness, regardless of whether the disease occurred in the period of time or intermittent depending on the conditions (qada‘) Divine or forever until death (Karma?, What is Kifarah?).” These concepts have the same meaning between the two of them because they are saying that if you do something “bad” or commit any type of sin, then you will be judged for what you have done and either taken out of the cycle of samsara or punished by Allah. Both Hindus and Muslims are very devoted to their God and worship him multiple times a day. “Both religions advocated non-violence and both religions believe that remembering and reciting the names and words of God creates inner
At the time of death, one’s spirit will separate from their body and either ascend to heaven or be bound to Hell according to their deeds performed on Earth. That’s because it is believed that humans have the ability (free will) to choose between good and evil. Muslims and Christians believe that angels exist as well as Satan and his evil spirits who follow him: the enemies of humanity. Also, it is said by Muslims, that on the day Jesus returns, the Last Day, the dead will be resurrected and both the dead and alive will be judged. They will either be rewarded by going to heaven, or punished by going to hell. Likewise, Christians believe that on the last day, referred to as judgment day, God will bring forth his judgement upon all those: dead or alive. He will reward or punish them by sending them to either heaven or Hell.
The world has many different belief systems including Christianity and Buddhism. Both are similar and different in many ways. These religions are used in different places around the world and influenced the lives of its followers and the society in which they are practiced. Christianity is more diverse and complicated in its beliefs and totally depends on faith. In contrast, Hinduism is a belief more based on the simplicity of culture and tradition.

Hinduism and Islam are two largely practiced religions, specifically in India and the subcontinents. Both Hinduism and Islam have unique practices and traditions, which can vary depending on the town, region or people. They share a common belief in a supreme god, that being either Brahma or Allah respectively. The traditions differ on the central texts used, as well as differences in the process of reaching the afterlife and basic beliefs.
Hinduism and Islam are two of the world’s great religions however, they differ in many regards including their beliefs in god, their ethical beliefs and the afterlife in fact, it would be quite difficult to find to two religions more different then Islam and Hinduism. One major difference is in their belief in god, Muslims are steadfastly monotheistic where Hindus are very much polytheistic. Another key difference is their views on the afterlife Hindus believe in reincarnation, whereas Muslims believe in a heaven and a hell with the faithful going to heaven and the evil going to hell. The two religions also differ in the their ethical beliefs where Hindus follow the Law of Manu and Muslims turn to the Quran for their ethical guidance (Hopfe & Woodward, 2012). While both Islam and Hinduism advocate for a better overall person amongst it believers, they have vastly different approaches to achieve this result
As you can see buddhism and hinduism are very similar and share many similarities but there are a few differences that matter as well. The beliefs that both religions share when it comes to Karma, the similarities they share with reincarnation and the differences between their thoughts about god's is what you can learn from reading my text. Understanding the similarities and differences in different religions is important because you get a bigger understanding of why people believe in what they
