People around the world turn a blind eye on the topic of climate change, many believe that climate change is a hoax, but our Earth is changing. Our average air and ocean temperatures are rising, there is a widespread melting of snow and ice and a rising average in sea levels. These are things happening because of climate change. As habitants of the Earth, it is our duty to restore our planet after the wrongs we have done to it. Changes in the Earth’s atmosphere began to take an incline because of human activities since the Industrial Revolution. When the Industrial Revolution began, it impacted the environment greatly. The world saw a depletion of natural resources and the use of chemicals and fuel in factories resulted in increased air and water pollution. Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, the acidity of ocean waters has increased by 30 percent (NASA). Large changes in the environment began in 1880 (NASA). Since 1880, the global average temperature has risen by 1.4°F. This might not seem like too many people, but should it? The answer to that question is yes. Changing the average global temperature by even a degree or two can lead to serious consequences around the globe. For about every 2°F of warming, we can expect to see 5—15% reductions in the yields of crops as currently grown, 3—10% increases in …show more content…
Around the world climate change is effecting the natural process. Sea levels are rising, the global temperature is rising, our oceans are warming, the ice sheets are shrinking, there is decreased snow cover, the ocean acidification, extreme weather conditions, declining Artic sea ice and glacial retreat. In the past century, global sea levels rose by about 17 centimeters, nearly double of the last century (NASA). When are we, habitants of the Earth, going to realize what we are doing? We are changing our planet daily and decide to not to take responsibility for
Hypocrisy is a belief that is also strongly expressed in the novel. A character who accurately demonstrates this belief is Governor Richard Bellingham. In the beginning of the novel, he is introduced as a luxurious man with elegant embroidered clothes: “He wore a dark feather in his hat, a border of embroidery on his cloak, and a black velvet tunic beneath” (Hawthorne 60). This is ironic because the Puritans in Hester’s society were against embroidery and elaborate clothing. In fact, they were known to dress in mostly dull and drab colors and fabrics. This is seen in the beginning of the novel, when there is “A throng of bearded men in sad-colored garments, and gray, steeple-crowned hats” (Hawthorne 45) waiting to catch a glimpse of Hester as she leaves the jailhouse. This is also seen when they disprove of Hester’s embellishments on the dresses she makes for herself and for others: “So
Our world is changing. Not for the good, it’s getting worse. Within the last two hundred years our climate has been changing. Ever since the discovery of how useful nonrenewable resources are our climate has been gradually getting warmer. Climate change is threat with many consequences from the ecosystems that people live in all the way down to the evolution of species in the wild. There are many clear and present dangers in the world today, but climate change is of the most importance causing species to go explode in numbers, average temperatures to increase, uncontrollable forest fires, and the quality of air depleting.
The Earth is where all known life resides. Climate change threatens this blue world. The opinion of one in four Americans who are skeptical does not matter on a fact with mountains of research on it. Global and sea surface temperatures are rising; heat waves are becoming more common; and glaciers are melting. Scientists say “humans are causing global warming” which affects the sensitivity of the climate. The rise in greenhouse levels from carbon dioxide and other pollutants from use of fossil fuels is a uniquely from humans.
There is no doubt that the climate is changing, it is a naturally occurring phenomenon. Since climate change is naturally occurring, there is nothing we can do to completely eradicate the problem, but we have the ability to slow down the rate at which it is happening. Climate change is mostly anthropogenic and President Obama’s Clean Power Plan presents efficient policy options for helping prevent our climate issue from getting worse.
Climate change is a problem that we have been and are currently experiencing. It has caused much damage to people and the environment, by temperatures rising and natural disasters. It is a problem that world leaders need to take more seriously, and try to get more people involved to help better the environment. Who knows what it can cause in the future. Climate change is a serious threat for everyone living on earth.
Climate change began in the 1820s with Joseph Fourier and in the 1860s with John Tyndall. Fourier put into motion the “greenhouse effect.” An effect where trapped gasses in the lower atmosphere absorb the sun’s heat. Tyndall found that “greenhouse gasses” cover the earth like a sheet. This is how the earth keeps cool and warm. Yet, too much greenhouse gasses can be futile. During this time, humans did not know that they were the ones causing implications. 100 years later, Svante Arrhenius proposed that “…doubling the CO2 content of the planet’s atmosphere would raise its temperature by 2.5 to 4.0 degrees Celsius” (Frank, para 7). Any slight change in temperature can offset the ecosystem. People began to act to save their planet, but there are still many in denial.
In this 21-century climate change is becoming worse and worse. There is water levels are rising, animals in cold areas are starting to die because of the rises temperatures, and humans' health is being at risk, why because of human activities. The activities that humans mostly do is burning fossil fuels and deforestation.
Climate change. It has been on all of our minds as more and more controversy and panic are induced by new data being collected all the time. The very thought of it as the truth begins to fade into the foreground is enough to make many people sick. As this problem begins to take political forefronts, the question is, what are we going to do about it? Fortunately, public opinion and political concern as it has in the past and still does, has motivated individuals and even entire nations to take action against the upcoming threat. However, not all individuals are open to the truth of the existence and significance of climate change.
First lying can help protect the feelings of others. For example, in the article,” It’s the truth,” by NBC news states that “vein says it was too darn hot for her to get up and get dressed for a movie date… so she told her friend she was busy. Velin was to lazy to get up and get dressed by the heat so she lied to her friend and has told her she was busy to not get her friend mad. Veiln’s reason of lying was to save her friendship over a little white lie. In addition Harold Smith states he has a kidney tumor but didn’t want to tell her daughter who had anxiety. Harold Smith had did a white lit because he had to not worry about his daughter. If Harold would have told his daughter she would have had an anxiety attack. So therefore if you lie to protect others
A question that scientists have been pondering about for a while is: How concerning is climate change? This question has mixed opinions for a many people. What world leaders believe is that it’s a major issue that needs to be dealt with by people in power. The main cause of the earth’s climate increasing are mainly caused by human activity. Wherever there is a cause there is a solution, and many people agree if people can reduce fossil fuels, motor transportation, littering, and etc. Then the world would be in better shape. As of reading these articles, it is clear that climate change is a global problem and should be the dealt with.
All in the climate is changing. Climate change has been ongoing throughout all of Earth's history, worryingly humans are now the main cause for it. Over the past decade, the average Global surface temperature rose by approximately 0.6° Celsius. (UCAR, 2015) Melting glaciers, polar ice sheets and ice caps have seen a decline, Artic sea ice extent has decreased by 2.7% per decade, snow cover and mountain glaciers have declined in both northern and southern hemispheres as shown in figure 1. (ICPP, 2007) Due to a rising increase in greenhouse gases, a hole in the ozone layer has developed, causing change in Antarctica. With a higher climate in Antarctica comes melting ice around certain regions. Due to harsh winds produced by climate change, an uproar in warmer weather has spread across the Western Coast of Antarctica, whereas other regions are facing cooling trends. We can only come to the conclusion that climate change is at its worst. So what's causing the change in climate? Fossil fuels. Fossil fuels have contributed to 75% of the climates uproar. (Max De Boo, 2002) Once they burn they release CO2 into the atmosphere. The Earth is getting warmer due to the greenhouse gas layer thickening. Nothing can resolve climate change but things can be done to reduce it from becoming lethal. Using an alternative to fossil fuels, using transport less - cycle, walk, use public transport, these are all small starting point that add up in everyone contributes. (WWF,
Climate change is now at a point of being undeniable by anyone who gives it a serious look. Ten of the hottest years since they began keeping records of global temperatures in 1880 have occurred just since 1998. What's more, 2014 was the hottest year in the record books according to NASA and NOAA. These simple facts cannot be refuted by a simpleton Senator bringing a snowball onto the floor of the U.S. Senate and seemingly thinking that snow still exists therefore climate change must be a hoax. One area of serious study by climate scientists currently is the degree to which it is causing extremes in weather patterns around the world.
We all see the weather change from day to day and it is just a normal occurrence. Seasons change from warm to cold and we all just go about our business. But what most people don’t see change is the climate. Climate changes over a long period of time and it has shown a warming trend in the past few decades. Many people attribute this warming trend to the alarming rate that humans are burning fossil fuels and pumping Co2 into the atmosphere, however some people think that climate change is merely a myth or that global temperatures have always risen and fallen during Earth’s lifetime.
The world is warming and we cannot deny it, the longer we deny the larger the problem it will become. Global warming is affecting the world economy, the overall health of the population, and most importantly the environment that surrounds us. Ignoring this problem will not just make it suddenly disappear; the world has to make an effort to stop it while it can still be maintained. Accepting the fact that it is happening is just the first step, the next step is taking action and becoming informed on the issue.
In chapter 11, the author of our text says, in part: “Learning what is true and what is not true is harder today than it once was. The difficulty is not because of a lack of information. We have more information and more points of view available to us than ever in history. A few clicks on any topic and you get thousands of entries. In fact, perhaps we get too much information. We get so much that we are often overwhelmed…. A second problem today is that we should not necessarily believe what we see or hear.” He also says: “Our political culture teaches us to learn to be ignorant about politics.” Our generation is one that has more exposure than any prior generation to twenty four hour reports on multi-media devices. Thanks to the internet and the World Wide Web, we have at our disposal many viewpoints and a wealth of information. This does not necessarily mean that our generation is more informed or knowledgeable than prior ones. Not all information we are exposed to is true or unbiased.
