The Mayan empire ended about 800 A.D, which is also when the Mayan population started to decline. One of the first Europeans to set foot on Honduras was none other than Christopher Columbus. Columbus landed on Honduras in 1502 and called it Honduras because of the deep waters he faced while sailing during his voyage to Honduras.
