Host Agency
During my service learning experience, I chose to volunteer at Hermitage Gardens of Oxford. Hermitage Gardens of Oxford is a five-star assisted living facility located in Oxford, Mississippi. Assisted living facilities are housing for the elderly or disabled. In assisted living facilities duties such as prepared meals, nurse care, and housekeeping are provided. Seniors who need assistance with their daily activities and routines choose assisted living. Hermitage Gardens of Oxford is great for those who are retired or needs extra assistance. The environment of Hermitage of Gardens is warm, friendly, and homely. The residence and staffs treated me as if they had known me already. In my opinion, an environment in an assisted living facility should be

Most residents are away from their families which is different, and most are still adjusting to this change. Scenes that are welcoming to seniors will bring them comfort and warmth. Hermitage Gardens of Oxford is secure for seniors and comfortable to fit their personal living choices. It stood out to me that the interior design in this agency is decorated with warm and welcoming colors. From my standpoint, colors and decorations are important for the residents because the colors are calm and neutral. In this facility, seniors are granted the right to make their own choices of what activities they decide to participate in, foods they eat, and other opportunities. Each resident has their own room and private space that they can decorate and make it as homely as possible. Assisted living agencies are beneficial to those who are independent, but still demand assistance. There is a twenty-four-hour nursing supervision that is provided in this facility which is helpful because some patients require around the clock care. The staff that is employed in Hermitage Gardens of Oxford are social workers, nurses, nurse assistants, and cooks. This agency is funded by
The nursing homes also provide opening hours for resident’s family and friends to come and visit them which prevents social exclusion and isolation. Family and friends can be a vital part of the resident’s emotional and social development.
The participants of this study was 91 individuals who were living at Arden House, a Connecticut nursing home. these individuals were separated into two groups, the first group ( containing 8 men and
Aging is a natural part of life. However, many people struggle to stay active in their golden years. The attentive staff at National Church Residences is committed to the health and overall well-being of their clients and residents. Their senior living community in Chillicothe, OH, has provided safe, affordable, and comfortable housing to seniors for more than 50 years. As innovative leaders in home and health care for the elderly, they work hard to fulfill the social and human needs of older adults.
Progress is not made toward the out becuse Bo is not seeing his family. Bo noted he has not has the time to spend with his family. This nursing home also allows their elderly to eat whenever they are hungry and bathe whenever they feel the need; whether it be in the middle of the night or whenever. These activates allow them to make their end of days suffering from a frightening disease a whole lot easier for them. This also reminds me of an article I read, some time back, about a nursing home that put a daycare inside of it. I loved that idea also because they put older people and small children together doing activities and such. What they found was that this helped the older people just as much as it did the young. The elderly patients started to get more involved in activities when the kids were added in the group. I believe this also allowed the small children time to get to understand the elderly better. This seems to be such a therapeutic program as well. This article about the Beatitudes nursing home was so great and I have enjoyed it the most out of all the ones I have read this
Sunrise is a first class facility that provides premium services. Its employees are trained in the corporate principles of service, which include ideals such as Preserving Dignity and Encouraging Independence. Employee responsibilities and interactions with residents are governed by core values that include Joy in Service, Trust, and Respect. Even volunteers, such as myself, are expected to serve towards the goal of providing for the mind, body, and spirit of residents in a way that is respectful to the residents. From my interactions with the staff, volunteers and residents, I believe most of the staff and volunteers are committed to enhancing the quality of life for the residents. Accordingly, Sunrise does a good job in accomplishing its primary mission.
Those who have been inhibited deserve care at any age and in any circumstance. My time volunteering at assisted living facilities allowed me to address people’s diverse backgrounds in productive ways. Once a week, I worked with a resident in a
For this paper I went to Botsford Commons nursing home in Farmington Hills, Michigan. I interviewed Carl Cottrill. He is the administrator at the facility.
Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs) have transformed tremendously over the past 10 years. ALFs provide outstanding services for seniors who wish to remain independent but still need some assistance with daily living. They are now designed to be more homelike and equipped with many features. Some of these features include libraries, computer labs, fitness centers, dining rooms, beauty salons and even indoor swimming pools. About one million Americans reside in ALFs across the country. This number is projected to almost double by 2030.
This summer I had the opportunity to volunteer at a non-profit organization called LifeCare Alliance in Columbus, Ohio. LifeCare Alliance’s programs and services assist impoverished and medically challenged senor citizens in Franklin, Madison and Marion Counties. These various programs include Meals-on-Wheels, the Columbus Cancer Clinic, Project OpenHand-Columbus, Visiting Nurses, Senior Dining Centers, Senior Wellness Centers, Help-at-Home, Groceries-to-Go Pantry, IMPACT Safety, and Senior PetCare. The goal of the agency is to support clients in remaining independent while in the comfort of their own homes with dignity, where they want to be.
The residents at an assisted living community can expect to have a great deal of freedom over how they spend their days. While
The need for affordable assisted living is significant and largely unmet. Less than half of seniors in the U.S. can afford to live in high-cost assisted living communities. This leaves the majority neglected, living at risk at home or prematurely entering a nursing facility. The Ashford at Sturbridge, Wallick’s third affordable and fifth assisted living community, will serve as a cost-effective option for these seniors.
I undertook 2 years of volunteering at the local nursing home, which allowed me to experience a new side of healthcare. Feeding and talking to elderly patients with dementia and Alzheimer’s highlighted the importance of empathy in the profession allowing the patients to trust you , along with learning the art of caring whilst working alongside and speaking to the carers. I am grateful to have the opportunity to experience the hidden and less glamorous parts where I witnessed the residents I worked with deteriorate over the time of a year, yet seeing her smile when she looked at me outweighed any pain that would have been caused. Knowing just talking and feeding the patients can make such a big difference in a patient’s life allows me to be
I started my internship on 3/25/2015 at Sweet Magnolia Senior Center Located in Coney Island Brooklyn. My first day wasn’t so bad or nerve racking at all. Some of the senior watched me grow up in the neighborhood. I love working with the elderly. This wouldn’t be my first time but it was a little different from what I do at work. In my HSS 214 class, I was the go to person when it comes to seniors citizens. The elderly population have many issue that they shouldn’t such as their lack of resources. On my first day I was in a different section of the center using my knowledge as a program coordinator to help create a stronger and well put program for the staff to
Based on my understanding of asset-based community development that impacts my experience on campus are my peers and professors of who I would talk to and in my Senior Care Center near my Jackson Heights neighborhood is my supervisor and the elderlies I would speak to them in a formal and respectful way that I will always respect their language barrier and thick accent. In addition, while I am volunteering at the Senior Care Center so far, I had showed self-sufficiency, hospitality and internal connections at the center by welcoming seniors to enter this amazing care center that they provide support and services by talking to other employees that they will try to help you economically and to talk to the supervisor if you need further information
