Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston on January 17, 1706 , when the United States consisted of 13 colonies ruled by England. The problems between England and the colonies began to emerge after the war from France and India. The imposition of the Stamp Act and some other intolerable acts, caused the colonies to revolt against England. In April 19, 1775, the American revolution began and settlers fought for freedom. During the struggle for independence, Benjamin Franklin was sent to Europe as a representative of the colonies. In 1776, Franklin signed the Declaration of Independence and in 1778, the Treaty of Alliance with France. Also he negotiated with French to assist colonies and became Prime Minister of the United States in France. He contributed to the provision of arms, ammunition and other things for the army. He participated in the peace negotiations with England and then signed what became known as the Treaty of Peace with Great Britain (1782).
When the colonies gained their freedom and independence, it was necessary to establish a form of

The kite experiment influenced by the works of other great scientists such as Isaac Newton and Joseph Addison, Franklin wrote his most important scientific work: Experiments and Observations on Electricity. The kite experiment of Benjamin Franklin was to tie a kite with a metal skeleton thread, with its lower end attached to a key. Taking advantage of a thunderstorm, he noted that, trace the comet, electricity is led from the kite to the key, charging outlet. From this, Franklin showed that the clouds were electrically charged and lightning we see are these electrical discharges. Among the inventions of Benjamin Franklin is the lightning conductor, produced from the just mentioned discovery. The lightning rod installed quickly across the country and was a commercial success
Benjamin Franklin is a famous American. He was born in 1709. He did many things in his life. He was a scientist, a writer, and a statesman. He wrote for several newspapers. He also helped print several newspapers. He invented many things. He invented bifocal glasses. Bifocal glasses can be used to help see things far away and up close. He also invented the lightning rod. A lightning rod attracted lightning and can be used to protect buildings. Franklin figured out that lightning was an electrical charge. He did this by attaching a key to a kite. He flew the kite in a lightning storm. Franklin was a big supporter of the United States in the Revolutionary War. The Revolutionary War was the war where America became its own country. Franklin help
Ben Franklin was a very curious and inventive thinker. He kept thinking about different ways to experiment with electricity so he came up with an experiment with only a few materials (wire, mobile kite, handkerchief, and two sticks).(”Benjamin Franklin and Electricity”) Franklin
In 1765 Benjamin Franklin began to lead the way to the American Revolution. In previous years he was a defender of British Parliament, but he saw the treatment of the colonists caused him and many others to change their beliefs. The revolution was long in the making, and by 1775 the relationship between England and America can be described as poisoned and tense. The colonists viewed themselves no longer as part of the British Empire, but an independent nation. They were no longer the Englishmen who sailed the Mayflower to The New World in 1620, they had evolved into Americans.
Ben Franklin was born on January 17, 1706 in Boston Massachusetts. He was self-taught and eventually got the occupations of a printer, statesman, and scientist. Growing up he was raised in a family of seventeen children. He was the fifth teen child and the last son in his family. When Ben was ten years old he was taken out of school to work with his father making candles.
Benjamin Franklin has a significant impact to the American Revolution and the building of a new nation. His brilliant inventions throughout his life made a significant impact on the United States and will be remembered for them in U.S history. Franklin had inventions like the Franklins stove, and the lightning rod, he also discovered electricity. His inventions and discoveries have changed lives from the first day it was introduced. Without Benjamin Franklin’s contributions, times would be different today. (Thesis) Franklin’s contribution from the past has made an impact on U.S history that would always be remembered.
Benjamin Franklin was born in Boston on January 17th, 1706. He was the tenth son of a soap maker, Josiah Franklin. His mother Aliah Folger, which was a second wife of his father. His father had 17 children in all that he took care of. When he was 15, his brother started The English Courant, the first newspaper in Boston. Although, there were two more papers in the city prior to that. Benjamin wanted to start writing on his
Benjamin Franklin was very influential, despite him having little formal education. He was a man of many talents. As the Revolutionary War approached, Franklin made a significant impact by writing many pamphlets and promoting union among the colonies.
Benjamin’s experiment with his kite and key helped him to understand lightning. “Mid-eighteenth century scientists and inventors considered electricity to be Franklin’s most remarkable area of investigation and discovery” (Mary Bellis). Franklin’s experiments helped him to create the lightning rod. The lightning rod was a rod that was attached to the highest point of a house or building. The rod would have a wire attached to it that would run all the way to the ground. Lightning would strike the rod and travel along the wire into the ground. The wire connected to the ground absorbed the lightning, preventing the lightning from hitting the house or building. The lightning rod would prevent fires and electrocution. Franklin was a well known and respected figure in all regions of the world. He was known for his high intellect, honesty and good intentions. Franklin was liked by many and kept good relations with many different regions, such as in Great Britain, the colonies as well as France. Having such a good image in the eyes of the other powers made him especially important to the Continental Congress. Having a good reputation with France, allowed Franklin to work with the French in hopes to have them help the colonist in search for independence. Franklin got the French to lend money as well as a helping hand while fighting the British. Without Franklin, the colonist would have never gotten the help they needed, since the French saw the colonist as unreliable and not trustworthy. But this is not the only thing Franklin did to help the colonist gain independence, he was also a signer of the Declaration of Independence as well as a co-contributor to the framework of the constitution. Now, Franklin did not only impact the colonist when dealing with their independence, but he also attempted to mend the bond between the colonist and Britain before things worsened. He initially was doing everything in his power to prevent the colonies from declaring independence, however, since Britain was not cooperating, the result was inevitable. Throughout Franklin’s adulthood, he held many important political positions, such as the state representative of Pennsylvania as well as an official diplomat and ambassador of the thirteen colonies. Franklin was such a powerful figure in the eyes of the United States, that Congress would not allow Franklin to retire until the constitution was signed and the United States was at peace. Franklin was already eighty-two, when he was finally granted retirement and able to step down from political power. Benjamin Franklin helped the colonist in achieving their independence every step of
"We must, indeed, all hang together or, most assuredly, we shall all hang separately." This was said by Benjamin Franklin in the late 18th Century to unite the colonists together to try and succeed in the American Revolution. The colonists had endured lots of abuse, courtesy of the English crown. Among other things, the colonies had unfair and unjust taxes imposed on them and they were cruelly punished and beaten during the French and Indian War. It was obvious change was needed, so many revolutionary leaders, including Benjamin Franklin, sought to unite the colonists as a family for them to become successful in their revolt against one of the greatest world powers at the time. The American Revolution was, eventually, successful but not without
In 1775, he returned to America a delegate at the Continental Congress as the American Revolution advanced. In 1776, he helped formulate the Declaration of Independence and in July the final document was signed. William Franklin, whom Franklin and his wife had raised, was a leader of the Loyalists. In 1776, Benjamin Franklin, one of the most prepared United States’
Back to the year of 1752, Franklin had announced that he successfully conducting electricity from thunder-clouds by using his designed kite. In the first letter of my primary source, Franklin described the materials, procedure and conclusion of the kite experiment. He concluded that the similarity of the “electric matter” and lightning. This discovery allowed people to know the natural characteristics of lightning and lead the invention of the lightning
To prove his theory, he stood on a hill flying a kite with a key tied to it waiting for the lighting to strike. At the point when the lightning struck the kite, the capable jolt went down the string and charged the metal key. Franklin then touched the key and got a shock, in this manner demonstrating the presence of electricity. Benjamin Franklin felt the negative charges in the metal piece of the key that pulled into the positive charges when he grasped the key and felt a shock. He knew if a building was tall or high up on a hill, it was bound to get hit by lightning, so he invented a lightning rod which was made out of metal.
The United States of America signed its Declaration of Independence in July of 1776. Our country had many contributors. People such as, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams, but Benjamin Franklin influenced our country in many ways. Benjamin Franklin invented bifocals and the lightning rod. Also, he discovered electricity and created theories about electricity. Also, Benjamin Franklin was the first postmaster general and helped convince the French to help our army, which led to our Continental army defeating the British at Yorktown. Today, our one-hundred dollar bill contains Benjamin Franklin’s face in honor of his contributions to our country. Although, Benjamin Franklin contributed all of these different things and we think
After the arrival of the Mayflower, the Arabella and other ships to the land that now we know as the United States of America changed the lives of many, several came because of economic purposes, and others because a new land would offer them freedom of religion , but around the 1700s-1800s life took a shift, that would change the world 's perspective forever. The birth of critical thinking and scientific reasoning happened, which revolutionized humanity. There are many famous people we have learned about in school like: Locke, Montesquieu, and Rousseau ( all of them European), but America had several of its own. Born in Boston on January 17, 1706. A man that was a son , brother, father, printer, writer, scientist etc… In his Autobiography and The Way to Wealth, Benjamin Franklin shares with his audience many of his adventures. During his lifetime he wrote many times under different pseudonyms, to share his message. He is seen as an outstanding figure because of the many important charges he had during his lifetime and his ideals on self improvement.
