Make a Difference
Throughout time there have been many people who have wanted to enact change or make a difference. Cesar Chavez helped migrant farmers with their unsafe work conditions and their lack workers’ rights. Mother Jones marched for children’s rights and to create child labor laws. Van Jones is fighting for human rights currently. These people all did amazing things and all fought for a singular purpose.Cesar Chavez, Mother Jones, and Van Jones all helped fight to enact change, by making people notice their cause and by having the perseverance to keep fighting for others to have better lives.
Cesar Chavez fought for other migrant farmers because he had experienced what they were experiencing, and thought he should make a difference when Chavez started leading the UFW, United Farm Workers, is when his movement really started. Lots of things happened during Chavez’s childhood “At age 11, his family lost their farm during the Great Depression and became migrant farm workers”(Cesar Chavez Foundation). That is the main reason for why Chavez noticed the issues that were surfacing with workers, this is what got him into the farms. Cesar taught many unforgettable lessons “Cesar learned and taught others how commitment and sacrifice can set you free from the constraints imposed by depending entirely on money and material things”(Cesar Chavez Foundation). One reason Cesar Chavez was an effective leader was because he created a union known as the United Farm Workers. Chavez’s goal was to organize the farmers to receive better pay and better working conditions. He was not the first to attempt, others have tried but failed due to the power of growers. Cesar E. Chavez was born in 1927, in Arizona. Chavez worked as a migrant farm worker when he was young. He has the experience of working in the scorching hot weather. His family had lived with his grandmother, where he learned all if his values, morals, and beliefs. As Chavez grew older, his father would teach him how to be respectful, and how he should always stand up for what he believes in. His father lost their land and was forced to work as migrant farm workers. After a month, the Chavez family moved away in search of more farms. Cesar rarely went to school, and would never stay at one school for a long time. Cesar dealt with poverty and racisms at a young age. Later, his father had got hurt in an accident and was forced to leave school to support himself and his family (Valbuena1-3).
Many leaders in Unites States are remembered for their hard and memorable work like Cesar Chaves. He was an American farm worker, labor leader, and civil rights activist, who had one of the most influential boycott in the US. Cesar grew up on a farm but shortly after his family lost their farm due to the Great Depression. The family moves to California to work in the fields. As a child Cesar only finished 8th grade because the family needed money to survive, he was forced to work in the fields daily, for long hours. Right after WWII ended he joined the navy for two years. After his return to California, Cesar helped farmers gain respect and dignity that they deserved. Cesar knew that farmworkers strikes where brutally crushed, but he never gave up and continued fighting
Chavez wanted to help the community that he came from, as well as others like it. The migrant worker community became his main focus, this resulted his creation of the UFW in 1962 (Chavez Foundation). His earlier life as a migrant worker would be a strong influence for attaining better working conditions for those workers. Early in Chavez’s life, he was exposed to the hardships of migrant working. When Chavez was 10 his family was forced from their home in Yuma, Arizona because of back taxes and because of the depression, his family couldn’t pay the payments (Castillo and Garcia, 7). Chavez began migrant work when he was 14, and the injustices had a memorable effect. Migrant workers were often exploited because of their lack of organization in a uniform union group, something that Chavez would eventually change. In future years the UFW would give migrant workers a voice in the conditions under which they were living and working.
Chavez’s childhood was surrounded by his parents and himself in the fields to support them become sustainable. As he aged, Chavez saw the flaws in working conditions, wage, and became the director of the United Farm Worker Association Also, many other campaigns such as the Anti-Immigrant Stance became controversial. Cesar Chavez fought alongside farm workers to improve their lives, so for a city that is populated by mostly farm workers, he really made an impact to the community. Cesar Chavez has improved the lives of many, if not, all of the farm workers in the United States, and his legacy is apparent by the farm working community.

Cesar Chavez international hero who helped farm workers obtain better working conditions in the California; in addition, he was often thought as the Hispanic Martin King Jr. His accomplishments ended up changing millions of lives for the better, he would give farm workers the future they hoped and dreamed of. Realizing the struggles his parents went through gave Chavez the inspiration to change farm worker's lives.
