In contrast, the two documents Paul Revere’s Ride, by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and the letter from Paul Revere to DR. Jeremy Belknap are different because in the letter written by Paul Revere he was encountered by British soldiers and people warned him of the British soldiers ahead of him and it gives detail about where Paul warned people from one place to the other unlike the other article written by Henry. The first reason the the two documents are different is because Paul Revere he was encountered by British soldiers in the letter but in the poem there is not writing saying that he encountered british. A quote to support this is “ I saw two men on horseback under a tree. When I got near them, I discovered they were British Officers. …show more content…
That supports my reasoning. Another reason the poem and letter written about Paul Revere are similar is because in the letter he is warned of British soldiers ahead of him by other people while there is no evidence of this in the poem. A quote to support me is from the letter written by Paul Revere it states “ While the horse was preparing, Richard Devens, Esq., who was one of the Committee of Safety, came to me and told me that he came down the road from Lexington after sundown that evening; that he met ten British Officers, all well mounted, and armed, going up the road.” This quote is important because in the quote someone is warning him of ten enemy soldiers ahead. There is no evidence in the reading written by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow this proves that the two documents because one reading has something the other doesn’t. Lastly, the two reading are different because in the letter it gives details about where Paul warned people from one place to the other unlike the other article. A quote to support this is from the letter it states “ In Medford, I awaked the Captain of the minutemen; and after that, I told almost every house, till I got to Lexington [10].” This quote is important because it say how far he went to warn people and how and a person he did
There are similarities and differences between the “Midnight Ride of Paul Revere” and the historical account of Paul Revere’s ride. In both texts Paul Revere went across the river to Lexington. However, they got across the river in different ways. Longfellow used history in his poem to make his poem more interesting, but he altered how he got across the river.
“The British Are Coming! The British Are Coming!” Paul Revere warned the towns people so that they could prepare to fight the British in the war. This would be the first battle of the American Revolutionary War. This report is about how Paul Revere was involved in the war and what his early life was like.
Paul revere was riding home with Samuel Dawes and William Prescott and noticed the British were marching toward Lexington in large numbers. He also noticed the were heavily armed and were ready to fight. He rode north through the streets of Lexington, Concord, and other various small
It was Revere’s big break in history that gave him the reputation he has today. Paul rode to Lexington at 10 o’clock p.m. to warn Sam Adams and John Hancock about the British coming their way. This event has given us the phrase “The British are coming, The British are coming”, the words originally being “The regulars are coming, the regulars are coming”. Yelling at the top of his lungs these words as he rode into the town of Lexington. That was the beginning of war. The Battle of Lexington started and soon after, so did the American Revolution. Revere’s duties were simple yet profoundly vital. He produced cannons and gunpowder for the benefit of the Continental Army. Revere became a lieutenant colonel, giving his time serving an unexceptional career. He was dismissed in 1779 from the Continental Army, reason being he was unable to follow
In “ paul revere’s ride ” poem and in the letter from paul revere there are similarities and differences. I will give you three differences and similarities. The three similarities are they both say paul revere’s midnight ride was on april 18th 1775 , they both tell about one by land or two by sea depending on where the british come from, and they both talked about how the british would attack. My differences are the letter gives more information than the poem , in the poem it told some details of the battle , and in the letter paul revere barely talked about his midnight ride. Now i will explain my similarities than differences.
When reading these poems, several differences are obvious immediately. London, 1802 was written in 1802, while Douglass was written about one-hundred years later. This time difference is important because it shows the perseverance of the issue, even one-hundred years later. Another difference is the location in which the poems take place. London, 1802 takes place in London while Douglass takes place in the United States.
The poem “Paul Revere's Ride” by Henry Wadsworth is mostly inaccurate, but has some similarities with what actually happened. Paul Revere’s friend did climb a church tower, and his ride took place on the night of April 18 1775. However, he did not ride alone, he did not reach Concord, and he never shouted “The British are
In 1860, less than one hundred years after the event in which it is based on, the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere was immortalized in a children’s poem by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. The poem became an instant classic and is mostly remembered by the opening line, “Listen my children and you shall hear, of the midnight ride of Paul Revere.” Written at a time when the United States was on the brink of a Civil War, it made some accurate accounts of what happened that night however, it was a children’s poem therefore a lot of the events were distorted and dramatized. The most important being, Paul Revere was not alone on his “Midnight Ride” as the poem says. William Dawes Jr. and Dr. Samuel Prescott also rode with him that night. Whatever
After this talk with Warren, Revere set off to find Robert Newman who was sexton of the church, and told him if the British are coming by land to hang one lantern in the steeple of the Old North Church, and two if they were coming by sea. When Revere saw the signal of two lanterns hanging, he quickly went to Charles River, where he boated past the British in stealth mode, landing in Charlestown. Revere rode through Charlestown to Lexington warning the “Minutemen” (David, Lester. The story behind Paul Revere’s Famous ride. Boy’s life,) whom were the colonists packing artillery if this situation were to occur.
Have you ever had an adventure? If you have, you will be able to relate to the thrill of Paul Revere’s ride. There are both similarities and differences between Longfellow’s poem, “The Midnight Ride of Paul Revere” and the historical account of Paul Revere’s ride. Longfellow also had similarities with the historical account. The meanings of the lanterns in the North Church were the same.
The most obvious difference is the fact that one shows the perspective of a woman while the other tells a story from a man's perspective. The letter is written by a guy in the army to his wife and kids. He talks more about how he loves the Country so much that he is willing to die for it. The major does not really mind the fact that he is about to die and leave his family behind. Instead he tells his wife and kids to stay strong and that he will always be there for them. In contrast, the poem talks about how the women values her husband’s love and how he is such an idol. She would put her husband before anything and anyone. Just by reading the poem people are able to tell how much this women respects and loves her husband.Although they both love their families, one is willing to give up his life and abandon them.
First of, “Paul Revere’s ride in 1860,during the turbulent times when the United States was on the brink of civil war.” Some of the people didn’t know how he was or anything like that he might have been a normal person. “How accurate was longfellow poem?” The author was Franklin Johnson, “Paul Revere and the American Revolution” by: Ethel Ames, and “Paul Revere’s Ride” written By: Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. What I have learned in the “Paul Revere and the American Revolution” was that on April 18, 1775, that Revere was sent to Lexington so he can warn the American leaders, Samuel Adams and John Hancock that the British troops were on their way to arrest them and then seize weapons being stored in Concord. How it was accurate is by that
There are lots of things in the poems that are similar and different both of the writers are different and similar in many ways .In the poem’s “When You Are Old” By W.B Yeats, and “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night” By Dylan Thomas. They have a bunch of similarities and differences. For example in each of the poems the theme of the poems are death and the narrator’s message in the rhyming pattern poems are both similar in the poems ,and the writing style of the poems are rhyme schemes and therefore they use different rhyme scheme in each of the poems.
There are many similarities to compare in the poems “O Captain, My Captain” and “Shiloh: A Requiem”. One similarity is that both poems clearly use repetition throughout them. In the poem “O Captain, My Captain” many phrases are repeated, including, “Fallen cold and dead”, “Fearful trip”, and “bells”. This displays how Walt Whitman, the author, uses repetition to stress certain points that he wanted to make clear. He repeats these things to stress how much of a tragic and horrible event this was. Likewise, the poem “Shiloh: A Requiem” repeats the words, “Shiloh”, and “Foemen”. This
Despite all these similarities, there are many large differences between the two. The first is that Paul Revere did much more than warn the people of the british. In the belknap letter it said “Mr. Lowell asked me to go to the tavern with him, to get a trunk of papers belonging to Mr. Hancock. We went up to the tavern , and while we were getting the trunk, we saw the British very near, upon a full march. We hurried towards Mr. Clark’s house. In our way we passed through the American militia. There were about fifty minutemen. When we had got about one hundred yards from the meeting-house, the British troops appeared on both sides of the meeting-house. In their front
