“The most terrifying words in the English language are: I'm from the government and I'm here to help” (Reagan). Reagan believed in giving more power to the people and less to the government. Both of these presidents aren’t afraid to speak their minds. Former president, Ronald Reagan, and future president Donald Trump are similar and different because of their background, popularity before running for office and their ability to communicate to the people. As a child Reagan lived with his parents, Jack and Nelle, and his brother, Neil. His family moved around a lot because his father was an alcoholic and it was hard for him to hold a job finally they settled in Dixon, Illinois (“Reagan, Ronald W.”). Even during his family’s near poverty, Reagan stated that his childhood in Dixon was the happiest period of his life (“Reagan, Ronald W.”). Reagan was a kind, easy going, down-to-earth kind of guy which he portrayed through his television and radio talks. Even when he was shot in the chest, he was able to keep a smile on his face and joke with his wife. He was a very confident president and was great at giving Americans what they wanted. But political analysts disliked him for his simplistic view of the world (“Ronald Wilson Reagan”). He was given the name Great Communicator because of his ability to maintain support of the nation, even when his policies were not going well (“Ronald Wilson Reagan”). “Reagan was a hero to much of the American public and a villain and idiot to many political pundits” (“Ronald Wilson Reagan”). Conservatives thought that his administrative style was too easy going (“Ronald Wilson Reagan”).
