William Shakespeare shaped the world through his revolutionary storytelling. Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon on April twenty-third 1564. He was baptised in the parish church three days later on April twenty-sixth. It is widely accepted that Shakespeare attended grammar school through his youth, but he did not attend the local university. When he was 19 he married Anne Hathaway. It is rumored that this was a sort of shotgun wedding, their first child being born a few months after the wedding. In total they had three children together, Susana in 1583, followed by Judith and Hamnet in 1585. Shakespeare spent most of his time working in London, barely interacting with his family. (Kastan). (“Globe Theatre”) During his career, Shakespeare produced thirty-seven plays that would shape modern literature, becoming the second most quoted source after the Bible. This was prophesied by one of his peers, who said, “Shakespeare ‘was not of an age, but for all time’” (“William Shakespeare”). Shakespeare’s works displayed the simplicity of human nature and desire. His plays felt real, and made the audience ponder on what he presented. Shakespeare “produced a highly formal comedy which works, through strict conventions and largely in prose, to illuminate facets of truth and illusion in the reality of love” (Traversi). An interesting aspect of Shakespeare's career is that he was loved in his day. He became widely popular among all the social classes. In his newfound fame, Shakespeare was able to purchase New Place, a manor in his hometown. He would later retire to new place after the theatre was shut down by the Puritans. Shakespeare died on his birthday, April 23, 1606. (Kastan) It is said today that “William Shakespeare, ‘of all modern, and perhaps ancient poets, had the largest and most comprehensive soul’”
