The 1920s was a time of change. It was the first time that more people lived in the cities rather than on farms, and the cities kept getting bigger. Women were getting more rights as well as various everyday freedoms. People from coast to coast could actually listen to the same music and do the same dance. And finally there was the change in usable technology. The technology in the 1920s completely transformed American life in the 1920s. One of the pieces of technology that changed American life was the automobile. At first they were very rare, due to high manufacture price from requiring skilled workers to custom make each part, so the impact of the cars was very little. However, Henry Ford later came along and implemented the assembly
The 1920s was a decade of many inventions after WWI when soldiers had returned home. People were able to enjoy themselves more from making more money and new technologies. This era was also a time where medicine advanced more, due to that less people were getting sick and more people were staying healthy. This decade of change allowed many Americans to own new technologies and different inventions they never had or thought about before.
The 1920s was nicknamed the “Roaring Twenties” because every action had a voice. Every event or amendment was supported by some type of individual or group. Certain individuals made opportunity for American citizens, such as Henry Ford. Because of business leaders like him, Americans once confined to their city of work, can now live miles away. This era was full of trial and error. Trial and error can be supported by the fact that a new amendment repealed a past amendment. America was shaped politically by Congress, stereotypes, and mass production. The 1920s wouldn’t be the same without the leading automobile industry, “New Women”, and the Eighteenth Amendment.
The 1920s were an age of dramatic social and political changes. The nation's wealth more than doubled between 1920 and 1929, this economic growth swept along many Americans into a wealthy but also a unfamiliar spot this left some Americans uncomfortable with the new changes. Most Americans brought more conflict then celebration in the 1920s. However a small portion of people in the big cities were roaring about these new changes. People from coast to coast bought the same goods, listened to the same music, danced the same dances, and also had some experience with each other slang.
Technology advancements and innovations served as, in my opinion, the most drastic life changing factors during this time period. For instance, the invention of the assembly line had a major impact on American workers. In fact, “By the mid-1920s one of eight U.S. workers was somehow involved in the production, sales, service, and fueling of automobiles.” (Kyvig, p.28) This is a major primary source that Kyvig uses as evidence to support his thesis and to help portray the fact that this time period changed the way Americans lived their lives. Just the automobile in general, “significantly changed the way people worked, conducted their business, shopped for necessities and desires, and spent leisure time.” (Kyvig, p.28) The automobile was unquestionably the most noteworthy of all new technologies that had gained popularity in the 1920s. As a secondary source of evidence, there were other inventions that gained popularity as
Technology played a vital part in helping America become the great economic and cultural success that it was during the 1920s. New advancements, new discoveries, and new inventions improved American lives in every imaginable way but not without a few negative side-effects. As mentioned earlier, the automobile really came into play during the 1920s by making traveling a common thing for anyone who could afford a car (Trueman, 2000). Henry Ford started the Ford Motor Company, which began to mass produce affordable automobiles known as the Model-T. Ford's Model-T car became such an irresistible success that by the end of the decade, there was almost one car per family in the United States (Bruce, 1981). The automobile seemed to give people a type of new freedom, but the automobile also proved to be a dangerous item in the hands of many irresponsible people who loved to drink during the 1920s. The washing machine, telephone, and radio made their arrival during the twenties. People were discovering life to be far easier than the previous generations because of technology, but they were also slowly being driven into an industrial nation. People were lured
The 1920s were a time of advancement and prosperity in America. The end of the first world war caused America’s economy to boom resulting in a large increase in industrial output and credit. In addition to this, the invention of the assembly line made the automobile much easier to produce making it possible for most middle class families in the United States to be able to afford one which changed the concept of transportation. Modern advertising caused Americans to desire stuff that they didn’t necessarily need. Working conditions at this time were still poor but there were major improvements from the way it was at the beginning of the century. Due to welfare capitalism workers were much less inclined to strike which also helped the booming
The new era economy reflected the industrialization that the country had just undergone. Although there was a recession from 1921-1922, after 1922 we enter a period of uninterrupted prosperity, and growth. As Americans incomes increase, and prices decrease, this allowed for more of a disposable income. Middle class families are now able to buy cosmetics, fridges, vacuums, and automobiles. Technology also greatly influenced the major economic growth that occurred. The automobile industry became the most important industry in the nation. It was very similar to a domino effect, once auto manufacturing increased and was successful, other industries such as, steel, rubber, glass, and oil companies also increased their production due to the purchases made by the auto manufacturers. Automobile manufacturing created jobs, and as the radius of cities was extended, the demand for more automobiles increased. Unfortunately, farming became a double-edged sword. In the 1920’s tractor usage quadrupled, but the problem was that the demand for agricultural goods was not increasing with increasing production. This created
The 20s was a time of changing and reinventing. At this time some sports were just starting out, others were broadening their horizons, while others were simply becoming more popular. New heroes were emerging in sports, new teams, and even new leagues. In the 1920's, there were many famous movies and movie actors. This was a time when films really began to become a popular past time, to watch and to star in. Also a new music style came about in the roaring twenties called jazz.
The 1920s was a time of prosperity and new ideas that challenged the social norm and began the movement into modernism that we know of today. The economy was still coming off of the First World War and tax policies were creating an economic boom with the increase of discretionary income. The United States was in a scary position on what to do after coming home from such a brutal war that was going to end all wars. The young generation brought out the best in people and challenged the intellect of many bright minds that had the solid traditionalist views with the new fast paced modernistic thoughts. The 1920s were a time of growth and led the United States and the modern views came quick and made a lasting impact.
The 1920s, also known as the Roaring 1920s were a time period where things changed in the US. After World War 1, there was a lack of inspiration in the US, according to the lost generation with the rising racial tension to the everyday roots for employement, things were not great during the early 1920s. In the late 1990ss, labor unions were popular during the war fought back for their rights with the increased number of strike in 1919. Largest included General of all workers in Seattle and Strike of the entre American Steel industry, which affected 100 of 1000s workers and consumers. Those workers returned to work when the owners threatened them of violence. Due to that unemployment in 1920-21 had increased by 11% but things changed after the changes made by Commerce Secretary, Herbert Hoover, as he convinced Industrial leaders to voluntarily increase wages and production to remove the economy from the debt of World War 1.
“Musicians don’t retire; they stop when there’s no music left in them,”-Louis Armstrong, famous musician and entertainer (www.quotationof.com). The 1920s was a prosperous and successful decade. There was a booming economy, a new time of the Jazz Age with Louis Armstrong, the time of superior motion picture with sound, and unfortunately, the devastating crash of the stock market. Overall, the 1920s was incredibly action-packed and most certainly important to America’s history.
The 1920s was a time when the reality of the country was based upon problem after problem. This was the era when people realized that the times are changing and there are solutions for the wrong that has been done. The documents that had been provided showed the problems and how they had continued to be ignored and showed the solutions as well. There had been tension between the people because some of these problems had become dangerous. For example when the Palmer Raids happened a women had lose a child for being treated unfairly. It's the time when the old died out and the new came forth.
Life Changes of Americans in the 1920's In the 1920's many American lives were improved greatly, but some lives were as bad as they had been before. The economy was booming, with cars being mass produced, and many other consumer goods such as radios, were widely available. Also more jobs became available, and many people recieved a par rise. However there were bad things such as racism about.
The 1920s was a huge time period for the United States. Modern technology such as automobiles, radios, and advertisement had taken America by storm. Rural areas were on the decline. American cities had attracted not only rural and urban citizens, but also people from all over the world. In America during the 1920s, citizens struggled with accepting other races and ethnicities into their widely populated country.
The decade of the 1920’s was a decade of major changes in American Society. America was quickly becoming the largest industrial giant in the world, and consumerism was booming during this time. However, the most significant aspect of American society politically was that the U.S. largely withdrew from the rest of the world after World War One and advocated a policy of neutrality, where they didn’t get involved in the affairs of other countries. Not only that, but this decade was also the time during which the well known author Ernest Hemingway began his career.
