The Dutch built the Wall on Wall Street in 1653. The Netherlands went to war with the England in the 1650s. Both the countries were present in what is currently the New York City area with the English in the north and the Dutch in the south. The Dutch built the wall to defend their territory from English invasion. The wall was located where Wall Street currently resides in Manhattan. The Dutch constructed the wall out of 15-foot wooden planks, making the wall twelve feet high and eighteen inches thick. However, the wall was very weak, especially when considering that at this point, weapons were strong enough to break easily break through a wooden barrier.
