The American Revolution did not happen alone, it happened in steps by major historical events for over fifty years that changed many people’s lives living in the colonies. The revolution that changed the world came with great difficulties and affected many different cultures. Pennsylvania’s separation from Britain was very different compared to the other colonies due to the nature of the Penn family. Stepping stones towards independence was a difficult time for many Pennsylvanians, but through these difficult times great events occurred that led up people’s independence today.
In 1681, William Penn was gifted the land of Pennsylvania from King Charles II. King Charles II was repaying a debt from Penn’s father. William Penn used his land as a religious sanctuary for many people

As the colonies began to move westward towards the end of the territories, the want began to grow more and more. In North America, Britain controlled the eastern seaboard and the French controlled Canada and New Orleans. In between these two large nations were the Indians who had already been forced to move their homes when Britain settled the thirteen colonies. For all three of these cultures one piece of land was important in keeping control. The Ohio Valley controlled the fork of rivers that could determine who would have control of the most land. The French would be able to connect Canada and New Orleans through the rivers. The British would be able to expand westward, giving them more land to expand their colonies. Finally, the Indians wished to keep their land to call home. In 1748, The French and Indian war began after George Washington and a group of men traveled through the woods to tell the French that they were on British land. The event that Washington witnessed changed him forever. He witnessed Jumonville being killed by Indians, this showed that they would not side with just the French or the
The French and India war started out as a dispute over land in the Ohio River Valley area, both the French and English settlers moved towards colonization of that area. The English settlers previously settled in Virginia, moving from the northwest into the region. The French settlers started moving east from the Great lakes and south from Canada. George Washington at the time was working with the English forces to remove the French from the region by force. Furthermore, the English ran into a French group at Uniontown, and the English then massacred the French at the Battle of Jasonville. Then, Washington setup camp after at the Great Meadows and began constructing a fort, but however the French and their 600 soldiers, then were able to overpower the English and, then they were able to gain control of the area. The French and Indian War, was a war fought between France and Britain. The war was the product of an imperial struggle, a clash between the French and English over colonial territory and wealth. Great Britain claimed that the French provoked war by building forts along the Ohio River Valley. Virginia’s governor sent a militia to the French and Native American allies. The war started out badly for Great Britain, about 2,000 British and colonial troops were defeated by the French and Native Americans. For the first three years of the war, the outnumbered French dominated the battlefield, soundly defeating the English in battles at Fort Oswego and Ticonderoga. The British then began to make peace with important Indian allies, and under the
The American Revolution changed the political and social aspects of the United States. After the war ended many things changed in the states. From the political stand point women still had power but gained a few rights after the war and since the states where now free from British rule they could now create their own form of central government and elected a leader. On the social and economical side the belief of egalitarianism was widely being accepted, and mercantilism ended so the colonies were no longer forced from imported and export goods to England.
DBQ: To what extent did the American Revolution fundamentally change American society? In your answer, be sure to address the political, social and economic effects of the Revolution in the period from 1775 to 1800.
The French and Indian war, fought from 1754 to 1763, negatively altered political, economic, and ideological relations between Britain and its American Colonies. Most of these issues can be connected to the large influx of land in North America, nearly everything to the East of the Mississippi River ( as seen in the maps of North America in 1754 and 1763 found in Document A), conquered by Britain and the Colonies by the end of the war. With the colonies rapidly increasing in size, it became more and more difficult for Britain to control them an entire ocean away. North American began to take on a life of its own as in became increasingly apparent to both sides that they had conflicting goals. Further complications ensued with Britain’s attempts to properly
The American Revolution set the ground work for a major change in the New England colonies. It was a time of significant governmental changes on political and social levels, and a growing ideology on the obedience of a women and the dissolution of slavery.
In 1681, Penn and 11 other Quakers brought the Proprietary rights to east New Jersey. King Charles II owed Penn’s father, Admiral Sir William Penn, and in return Penn persuaded the king to grant him a “vast province on the west bank of the Delaware River” (Samuel, 2000). It was named Pennsylvania, which means Penn’s woods, after his father. Penn decided that his colony was going to be different from the rest of the colonies in that they were going to be a Quaker based colony. He believed in a “divine right of government” and formed the government of Pennsylvania as a “holy experiment” in governing. This type of government is considered being ahead of its time as it set forth a representative form of government. The penal system was designed to reform not just punish, and “all prisoners except capital prisoners were entitled to bail, work houses were substituted for dungeons and the death penalty was limited to murder and treason”. Also, Penn instituted public education and designed Philadelphia and other towns to promote health and fire safety. Being that Penn was in charge of the colony, he was given the opportunity to practice the Quaker Peace Testimony. He realized that a lot of the land that he was living on
In 1754, a war between the french and the english broke out in hopes of dissolving the fight over land in North America. The French and Indian war, was a war that was fought in both North America and England, and both sides had Native Americans fighting for them but against each other. This war changed the relationship between Britain and its American colonies by tightening its grip on the colonies politically, imposing different taxis on the colonies economically, and thus changing the colonists ideology about the british government.
The American Revolution was the point of change in the world. It was the first time that a democratic government was developed and tested in a time where monarchies ruled Europe and it was the time when the world saw that the concept of democracy could lead to the fundamental change in society, specifically politically, socially, and economically. However, even though it was the point in change for the world, to what extent did it change American society politically, socially, and economically in the period between 1775-1800? The answer is that political, social, and economic effects of the American Revolution impacted society to different extents and established ideas that would later influence future movements and changes in America.
Many events happened during the period of time from 1763 through 1775 that changed American’s mindset as the country grew. Both people and events during this time affected the nation of the United States enormously. This time period changed the United States for better in it’s development as a nation. Specific people like Thomas Paine and Samuel Adams tenaciously tried to change the course of history; wars, such as the French and Indian war altered the perception of the American people. These events and people were some of the many that facilitated the colonists’ defiance against the British. Altercations they encountered turned the people of the newly formed Americas against the British aiding in their quest for independence.
The American Revolution changed American society politically, socially, and economically. During the American Revolution, the Americans were split between the two political parties of the Tories and the Whigs, or the Loyalists and Patriots. Patriots wanted to gain independence from Britain. On the other hand, Loyalists did not want to break away from the British.
The French and Indian War, a colonial manifestation of the same forces and tensions that erupted in the European Seven Years' War, was, quite simply, a war about imperialism. The French and the English were competing for land and trading rights in North America; these strivings resulted in a great deal of disputed land, particularly that of the rich Ohio Valley. Each nation saw this territory as vital in its effort to increase its own power and wealth while simultaneously limiting the strength of its rival. Although the war itself therefore stemmed from a fairly simple motivation, its consequences were far- reaching. The English victory in the war decided the colonial fate of North America, and yet at the same time sowed the seeds of the eventual colonial revolution. After the war, the British ended their century-long policy of salutary neglect, attempting to keep the colonials under a more watchful eye. The British also raised taxes in an effort to pay for the war. Both of these postwar policies resulted in massive colonial discontent and added to the budding nationalism that eventually exploded in the Revolutionary War.
I don't agree with this quote at all. The american revolution was a radical event and did change the American society and the world. The American Revolution was something that would change the world after it. The most simple way of looking at how radical this event was, is to think of what the world would be like if there wasn't an America today. Maybe if there hadn't been an America we wouldn't be here today technologically or politically.
America changed immensely after the American Revolution because of the new ideals they saw possible after breaking away from the British empire including societal changes with women, native americans, and slaves, political changes with freedom to start an entirely new government, and economically with the freedom of trade and expansion. The Revolution caused many societal changes, even if all of them were not immediate. Slavery after the Revolution was weakened and blacks sought freedom more than ever. Slavery in the South remained because of the necessity on the plantations, however, groups of abolitionists began popping up more and more, especially in the Northern states.
The French and Indian War was a war fought by the English against the French and Native Americans. They were fighting over the Ohio River Valley. On February 10th, 1763, the Treaty of Paris was signed and the English won the war as well as the Ohio Valley. The English colonists started to settle in the Valley. The Indians, who didn’t know about the Treaty, were not happy when colonists started to take their land. An Indian Chief started a rebellion to get the colonists off what he thought was Indian territory. Although the Natives lost, England didn’t want to keep paying soldiers to fight the Indians. The Royal Proclamation of 1763 forbade colonists to take the Native’s land.
