If the United States of America were to make the right to bear arms and legally own guns it would have a negative effect on society. By getting rid of ways to legally obtain guns and ammo it would increase the amount black market gun sales. Culturally in the United States we want the items were told we cannot have taking away guns would only fuel the desire to obtain numerous amounts of guns. We have already tried this type of method back in history and it wasn’t successful the prohibition in the United States was a nationwide ban on the production, importation and transportation and sale of alcoholic beverages (History). When this law was in place it didn’t stop individuals from consuming alcohol, they proceeded to drink illegally in unsafe …show more content…
If we were to make owning a gun illegal in today’s society it would have the same negative side effects but with an object that can be misused and deadly quickly. Just like Al Capone gang leaders would take control of what would become the gun black market putting communities at risks for violence and increases in homicides individuals who follow the laws would be forced with the unknown every day. Law enforcement wouldn’t have the upper hand anymore and wouldn’t be seen as an intimidation factor anymore. Police officers would no longer be a threat to gang leaders. If law enforcement was no longer seen as a threat there wouldn’t be a way to protect citizens from harm’s way the leaders that would be controlling gun sales would be individuals that no longer see law enforcement as a threat to them. This would start gang rivalries just like it did in the prohibition. Communities would be facing new fears of gang leaders and increased criminal activities. If the country put out new laws involving gun control it would only affect the law abiding citizens that have guns or want
In Georgia, pro-gun forces scored a victory when Governor Roy Barnes, a Democrat endorsed by the National Rifle Association while campaigning, signed legislation that keeps all the cities in that state from suing gun manufacturers (Nesbitt). Though it is not right, it is obvious that street gangs and drug dealers have a say in this argument. Starting from the bottom of the cycle to the top: if street thugs didn't have guns, how would they be able to protect themselves and the drugs they sell in order to make a living, who would they intimidate, what authority would the police and drug enforcement officers have over criminals, and how would they protect themselves? Without guns the crime rate would decrease rapidly, crime fighters would be out of business, and many people would be unemployed. In rural areas and in farming communities there are also some people that like to hunt. Without a gun they would not be able to hunt, which could have a positive or negative
The right to bear arms across all states by citizens trained in the handling of such weapons would produce a superior nation, where protection and security would become a mere hands’ length away. Guns provide necessary protection against those who wish to harm others. For instance, imagine a shooting, where citizens have the power to protect both themselves and others from the assaulter with several precise shots, thus saving countless lives that would otherwise be lost. In the same situation, this time with defenseless citizens, the shooter freely kills the innocent, knowing that they have no means to oppose him, such as happened in San Bernardino and in France. Taking away the right to bear arms infringes the natural rights given to Americans
American citizens have had the right to own guns and have had easy access to them since the Constitution was written. The Second Amendment grants militias the right to own guns to protect the citizens, but it can be interpreted in multiple ways. Like the Second Amendment, gun control and gun laws are just as old and have shaped the country in different ways. Recently, the easy accessibility to guns and lack of strict gun laws have increased the homicide, suicide, burglary, and theft rates, but there could be other variables that affect these data as well. Gun laws, and the lack there of, have affected American society in countless ways by improving and worsening Americans’ way of life.
. The United State has passed some laws concerning the ownership and use of gun, and more legislation is being considered. Most of this legislation retrain, to an extent, the rights of the people to own or use gun. Some of these constraint may be necessary, but presently some legislation is taking it too far. The community gain from the use guns in the hands of reasonable or responsible citizens. An attempt to stop the use or take away gun use from this community might not do well. As individuals in such community fight for the protection of its people.
If we take away gun rights for americans it would be revoking the second amendment, and in the second amendment it states that it shall NOT be infringed. “ The first major effort to eliminate private ownership of firearms came with the National Firearms Act of 1934.” - (civilliberty.about.com). This was because of gangster violence and other shootings, but it didn’t succeed then so it might not now.
Banning the right to own a gun violates the second amendment which states that all people have equal the right to bear arms. Our founding fathers put that in writing to give the American people a sense of security in their own homes. The massive rise in the number of concealed weapons carriers in the U.S. is widely viewed by gun rights advocates as their natural expression and extension of the Second Amendment, as well as a necessity for survival in an ever growing troubled nation. In today’s American society, there are gangs, extremely violent people, drug addicts, and many more people that committing crimes for their own personal gain. We need to be able to protect ourselves against whatever aggression may come our way and taking away our
Gun violence has become a major factor in crimes in the United States and causes a high number of injuries, many of which end in fatalities. The cause of this type of violence often varies, but what stands out is that people with aggressive behaviors are more prone to commit violence with guns. According to the Child and Adolescent Social Work Journal Vol 24, "the proliferation of guns in television, movies, video games, and on our nation’s streets indoctrinate children and adolescents into a culture of firearm acceptability" (Rennison, 2001). The importance when discussing guns in regards to violence is that the probability of death is increased. The effects of gun violence are many and far-reaching, and include economic costs, psychological tolls, and of course physical injury and death.
The criminals alway find a way to get illegal weapon , use them and committed violent crimes. The illegal guns are a huge trade and business in the United States. Even if gun control laws were made much more strict, these criminals would still be able to obtain illegal weapons and use them to inflict harm and commit violent crimes. The only difference would be that the people who are not criminals would not have the ability to defend themselves. But,The problem is the criminal will always returns sense
Gun violence is negatively affecting the youth nation wide. In the United States 3,000 children die each year from gunshot wounds. Each year an estimated 7,000 kids are injured and sent to the ER due to a firearm injury. Many of the gun injuries are intentional assaults with a firearm. Other reasons for the high number of gun injuries are accidents and suicide attempts.
Death by firearm would decrease if a ban were placed, but other equipments capable killing would merely take it’s place. For example, suicide by handgun will be replaced with drug overdosing. Gun control is often a sensitive topic to discuss due to the involvement of human life, and often can stir debates. Both parties for and against gun control have claims that closely counter each other. Those for control believe that crime would decrease if weapon sales were governed. However, this won’t reduce crime at all, for the criminals would find other means of intimidation.
Having laws to prevent a gun to be bought will not prevent anything from happening and will affect mainly two types of people. Law abiding citizens who account their protection from guns and people who want to use guns for iniquitous reasons. The difference between them are that criminals will nevertheless have the ability to obtain them illegally, similar to many other illegal things in the U.S. Some supposedly illegal substances that are not allowed in any state in the U.S are methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, and oxycodone. However, these drugs are still available and accessed effortlessly for people in prolific amounts. The simple acts of banning or calling for additional gun-control laws unquestionably does nothing but make citizens helpless when help is needed.
Gang members already hold guns on their possession, they would just be breaking the law more if they made it illegal to hold a gun. Criminals have always broken the law and will continue to do so for the remainder of their lives “the criminal element will always get access because they have no regard for the law”(Geer). Since criminals already oppose the law and don't care if they break it or not they will defy the banning of guns nonetheless. In addition even with the ban there will still be illegal ways to get guns into a criminals hands. Mostly all gangs will at least have some guns on them, it's a fact. “Very few gangs walk our streets minus a gun”(Geer). The gangs that roam the streets will still have guns on their possession with or without the gun control law, it's a fact. Crime will still be there, illegal gang activity will still be there, and gangs will still fight other gangs. All of them will still have guns, they don't care what the law says. It doesn't matter to them. Guns will always be around. And they will always be committing crimes “Criminal gangs are already engaging in criminal activity”(Geer). Gangs around the world are already doing illegal crimes with guns if the government passes a gun control law it gives them more of a reason to defy the law and commit more illegal activities. It is in a gang members life to defy the law a gun
Correspondingly banning guns would in fact reduce the amount of guns in public hands, but it would increase the crime rates. Imagine a situation for a moment. The government outright bans guns and what happens then? Who would there be to actually enforce this ban? Would the police go door to door asking for your guns? Would they have an all out gun war? Or would they even attempt to take the guns from the people? Would it be worth risking their lives? Now imagine that they do manage to get guns from anyone willing to turn them over. What would stop criminals from still having these weapons? Do you believe that fear of the police alone would be enough to stop criminals. Would it be enough to stop these people from robbing every place in sight knowing that they will face little resistance? These are some of the most important questions to ask before even thinking about banning guns. They clearly all lead to a clear answer that if guns ever were banned that it would only bring upon civil war and higher crime rates. According to Pat Roberts a writer for Huffington Post and Forbes, “Banning guns for civilians would have very little if any net effect on murder and suicide rates”. The main reasons that he gives for this is something called supplication. If guns were to go away another way of murder and suicide would just take its place.
You are 4 times more likely to be stabbed then shot. According to a 2004 DOJ (Department of Justice) study the federal ban didn’t lead to any decrease in gun crime. In addition, criminals do not usually buy guns legally. Most criminals buy illegal guns because they are usually untraceable and are easier to use in a crime. Most gun deaths are caused by people that use stolen or illegally bought firearms. This would just result in just in more gun deaths.
Guns are a tool that can be used to defend or hurt someone, the only distinction between the two purposes is who is behind that firearm. The ability for anyone to own and use a firearm is one in which is exclusive to all Americas. Since our nations being Americans have had the right to possess a gun to protect themselves and those they hold dear. It is a right that all Americans have but one that is threatened because of recent tragedies and occurrences at the hand of ill people.
