Theme Development Riggs, Quidora, Poe, and Faulkner use gothic elements in their short stories such as monsters, grotesqueness, and death to protray their stories theme. Monsters are prelevent in both Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children and “Feather Pillow”. In the “Feather Pillow” the pillow has a monsterous parasite that made her wake up “as white as a sheet almost without a heartbeat” (Quigora 1). In Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children the monters “mouth hinges open grotesly so that a mass of long eel could wringle out” (Riggs 37) just before killing the old man.
