How Does Creon Use Power In Antigone

Power is having the capability or qualification to do something or control something. The idea of power is often analyzed in the Truman Show and Animal farm. In the Truman Show, Peter Weir suggests that power can be bad and that people shouldn’t have power

In Antigone, Sophocles characterizes Creon as a prideful and stubborn individual, who strives to gain power over others, especially the gods. Despite his own son threatening to commit suicide, Creon does not recognize his hubris as his fatal flaw until the very end. One significant power struggle in the play Antigone, is the conflict between Creon and his son, Haimon, who is engaged to Antigone. Creon uses his permanent place as ruler, to decide that Polyneices should not be properly buried, because he is a traitor to their kingdom. Not only is he gravely wrong, he is not swayed by anyone’s opinion, even his own son’s.

In literature, a character's personality and flaws dictate the decisions they make. Specifically, in Antigone, the main character, Antigone, cannot seem to overcome her pride, which causes her to make rash decisions. This influences both the plot of the story and the results of her actions because she held her beliefs in a higher regard than the societal norm and those of others. Antigone’s over-obstinate spirit and stubborn loyalty led to her rebellion against Creon's law and challenging her treatment as a woman, but it also led to her demise; her death.

The Greek tragedy Antigone written by Sophocles around 441 B.C. is about a girl named Antigone who is determined to fight for what is virtuous and ethical when it comes to giving her brother Polyneices a proper burial. However, her uncle Creon who is also the ruler of Thebes, disagrees with Antigone’s noble deed and believes that he holds the most superiority and that the law is more meaningful than possessing feelings for friends and family. Throughout the tragedy, Antigone rebels against Creon’s laws and has faith that the heavens and the gods know that she is doing an honorable and just action. Whereas Creon believes that man and government laws are more important and valuable.

Power is always dangerous and attracts the worst and corrupts the best. Power is having rule or ownership over others or items. Power has the ability corrupt and we have examples of it in the real world the examples are Hitler, Stalin etc. Though some may use their power for good like most of the U.S presidents but still power has made a negative pull on society.

According to Dictionary Reference, power is defined as, “the ability to do or act; capability of doing or accomplishing something.” Abuse of power is seen everywhere in our world. It has been prominent throughout history dating back to the beginning of time to present. Power itself it not necessarily the problem however excess of it or the potential holder of power may be. Countless people have abused their power when in a position of authority.

Power Power can mean a variety of things. Having power means to have the ability to gain control and influence the choices you make as well as others in and around the environment. It is known to be natural to use our power to get what we want and to feed our needs. It is important to have power in our lives because it gives us a sense of who we are and how much we can control. The issue with power and control is that people take advantage and use it in a way to control something or somebody.

In society power is the most valuable possession a person can have. When people have power they feel like they can do anything and nothing can stop them. Peer pressure to have what other people have sometimes driven people to do crazy things. People often get caught up in becoming powerful for their own selfish needs. In the quest for power people should not abuse their authority or it can cause consequences.

People in this world love to have power over something or someone and in some cases they do not know how to use their power in the right way.Power has a negative effect on others because some rulers will take laws to the extreme just because they can and have the power to.

Power can be misplaced and mistreated often, especially when given to the wrong person. The novel, Animal Farm, by George Orwell is a good example of this. In the novel Animal Farm, the animals do not like the way the farm is being run, to fix this they decide to take over and the pigs forcefully take charge. Eventually the farm winds up corrupt because of the misuse of the power by the pigs.

Control in individuals is similar to power in batteries; the higher the voltage of battery, the more electromotive energy it can convey; subsequently, it can have more noteworthy effect. The all the more influential you are, the more impact you ought to have. Persons can have master force; referent force; prize force; coercive power or true blue force.

Although everybody wants to have power it can be used the wrong way. Power is misused in three different ways. One of them is in politics ,power many times is used for personal gain , for example using public funds to buy stuff for themselves or their family or even to bribe. Second way power can go wrong is people that have power might think they are better and smarter than the people who gave them this power that could lead to horrible results. The third way power is misused is famous people like singers and actors that sometimes can not handle the responsibility of the power that is giving to them by their admirers and being a bad example to younger people. In conclusion there's very few people who can use their power
