Have you ever been really mad about a call the referee has made and wished it could be changed? Well on August 14th, referees used video technology for the first time ever, to make 2 very important decisions in an MLS soccer match. Did you know on average, a referee makes around 1-16 wrong calls per game? In the past, a call in soccer was just based on what the referees saw but now they can have a referee review it on instant replay and make the right call. Using instant replay in soccer, will make games a lot less controversial for everyone involved. Now in soccer games the referee's call lots of wrong calls and this angers the coaches, teams and fans. With the new rules, it could put an end to all of this and make games easier to ref …show more content…
Even though it will be nice, to always have the right call on the field being made, it may not be the best decision to have this new technology. As of right now in soccer it is solely up to the referees to make the call, whether they get it right or wrong, that's just how the game is played. These new rules could take a key part part of the game out and could drastically change the game. In my opinion this video technology should only be used in specific occasions. One way that I think this new video technology would be very beneficial, is that referees would to have the ability to overturn a red or an important goal. When these things happen it can have a huge affect on the outcome of the game. There are many times that this has happened in soccer and this technology could make soccer a better game to play, watch and referee. FIFA has accepted the new instant replay rule and in will has its pros like always having the right call and also cons like taking out a part of the great game. Moving forward the close calls will be more accurate and hopefully less controversy on and off the field. I believe this new rule could make the great game even
Changes to the PAT, coach to player communication, and chop block rules, which the NFL has implemented, affects the game of football. Lengthening the PAT distance results in missed points. Headset communication improved play calling. Making chop blocks illegal has improved player safety. NFL rules are constantly changing. What rule would you change to make football more
Soccer has been described as the most beautiful game in the world. It is certainly the most popular; it’s played by more than 265 million worldwide! Every four years, thirty-two countries from around the world gather - after going through a grueling qualifying process - to compete for the honor of raising the golden World Cup trophy.
Seemingly on the verge of returning instant replay to the game earlier in the week, the owners at their annual meetings rejected the plan on Wednesday by three votes. The problem: Each time a coach challenged a call and requested a replay, it costs the team
Admittedly, implementing instant replay for all levels of baseball would be economically challenging. However, at the very least, instant replay should be implemented on the professional level where the athletes are being paid and millions of fans are paying to watch a good game.
The National Football League, or NFL, has recently started enforcing strict rules regarding helmet to helmet hits; they are now fining and suspending players who commit vicious tackles or helmet to helmet hits. Many fans, players, and coaches complain against the helmet to helmet rule and grown upset about these newly enforced rules, while many still have favor for the new rule. This latest dilemma stirred up various amounts of controversies around the news and public. Several meetings and discussions took place on how the officials should officiate and make the decisions of how crucial and legal the degree of the hit made on the field. These new rules and fines should remain in the NFL to help ensure the
First, players of the NFL and NCAA or of any football league should know that playing football has a high risk for them to have head contact. If players want the rules to change they can quit. This is because you can take the fundamentals out of the game, there is a lot of hitting, that's just going to make the game boring they need contact. Also, players did not sign up to die. They do football for its value and that they like the sport the commissioners and every top rank of NFL cant listen to every complaint that players make. This is bad because there too many rules to follow and the refs would have to pretty much call a penalty every play, the refs don't want to change the
This will create a more fair and honest process for both the players and owners in the long run
As football fans know, coaches only get 2 challenges per game and signal it by throwing a red flag onto the field. Challenges are made when coaches do not agree with the calls officials are making, so the review it. If the challenge is unsuccessful it takes a time out away from the team. A coach can not challenge if he doesn’t have at least one time out. Because of so many rules and regulations, fans believe all questionable plays should be reviewed. “The NFL should adopt the suggestion from the Patriots coach Bill Belichick that everything should be reviewable” (Florio). Officiating needs to improve but sometimes the rules of the NFL regarding review technology should take the blame. Games would be much longer if all plays were reviewable but it would also become much clearer to the audience, the coaches and players. It is biased to see teams win in view of the fact that coaches couldn’t review a certain play because their previous challenges made were unsuccessful. This is why many people are also against reviews to an extent where people consider reviewing plays shouldn’t even be allowed not
His rule was created after both Tony Dungy and Dennis Green were both fired at the end of the 2002 season, Dungy was fired by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers despite having a winning season and Green was fired by the Minnesota Vikings after his first losing season in 10 years. Both of these coaches got fired by their respective organizations for virtually no reason, both coaches had incredible win percentages throughout their career and were fired after one season that was considered a down season for them. Dan Rooney just recently passed away earlier this month, he was 84, he not only left his legacy of the Pittsburgh Steelers behind, he also left behind the Rooney Rule which will always be relevant in the NFL and the sports world as a whole for as long as sports may
Should the NFL improve their rulebook a little better than what they already have it as? Even some of the players agree that the NFL have some ridiculous and outrageous rules in the rulebook. A couple of weeks ago Pittsburgh steelers running back, Le’veon Bell disagreed with the NFL’s choice not to fine Dallas’s running back Ezekiel Elliott for jumping into the salvation army pot after scoring a touchdown. Le’veon said “ Me and AB got fined for a handshake … …… A HANDSHAKE!
By applying these changes to a sport could make the sport that much entertaining to watch tremendously. All calls from the officials are on point and no one’s complaining because of the instant replays. Use all the tools available to help make the right call give the game more excitement and keep everything anonymous to call from the fans perspective. These plays are inherently difficult to officiate because of the speed of the game and to slow everything down the officials use instant replays to make it
Research shows that soccer is the world’s most popular sport. Many people might not realize that soccer is the most important sport played in the world. Billions of people watch the telecasted national teams from countries around the globe compete for the World Cup. The history of
People have always loved to play games. The human race has created hundreds of thousands of games to entertain themselves and to compete with one another. The most beloved games are those of physical sports. One of these sports, that has become a worldwide phenomenon, is the game soccer. The entire world gathers every four years to send out their best team, and to see which country is the ultimate champion. To play the game of soccer, there needs to be referees to ensure that the players are safe and are following the rules. Though this was once a highly respected position, in Virginia, working as a referee is no longer worth the time, due to a lack of respect, no support system, and the constant variations and changes to the rules.
Technology has changed sports over the years, without a doubt. Many rules have changed because of technology. Not only rules have changed, also decision-making has been affected by technological improvements. However, a lot of technological improvements are very expensive and therefore cannot be applied in every sporting event. Especially amateur athletes and clubs do not have resources to apply the newest technologies in their sporting events. The question arises if this is fair or not. If people that play amateur sports want to become professional athletes, and they are physically capable of making that step, there should not be other obstacles such as technology
Third officials & replays have had a positive influence on the game cleaning it in ways from diving and fouls. In almost all champions league games third officials will be on the biline looking for fouls and a more accurate view if the ball has gone for a corner or not which can potentially change an outcome of the game, a lot like replays allowing officials and fans to review a decision and argue it this again can change the outcome of the game positively making the sport far more enjoyable
