Welfare Causes Laziness Do you enjoy your hard earned tax dollars being given to unemployed people because they don't want to work? Between 2008 and 2013, the number of people on food stamps grew by 69 percent (Riley). Welfare tends to pay more than most entry-level jobs, so most people choose the lazy way of life and stay unemployed. Financial aid from the government is America’s fastest growing source of personal income (Will). That goes to show that the Americans that are on financial aid programs are being lazy and have no will to get off of their couches to go to work. Public welfare programs are not helpful because they encourage laziness, get abused, and take money away from hard working taxpayers. Welfare began in the 1930’s during the great depression. There is no reason people can not get a job in today's world and make their own money because workplaces have become more safe and less physically stressful. One of the goals of welfare is to create stable homes but it tends to do the opposite because if there are two incomes then they can not receive financial aid, therefore it splits up families. Welfare can also result in a pattern of dependence on the government and will cause people to not go out and get a job because they do not want to get their federal aid taken away. A good thing is that states have the ability to set all of their own welfare rules, including getting rid of programs that are useless. Most states offer basic aid such as healthcare, food stamps, child care assistance, unemployment, cash aid, and housing assistance but everyone of those aids can be taken care of by going out and actually working for money versus sitting on the couch and living off of the hardworking taxpayers
