Abraham Lincoln influenced america and other historical figures. Martin Luther King Jr. and Lincoln were one of the most prominent leaders when it came to slavery. Abraham Lincoln was significant because he was the 16th president of the United States. Abraham Lincoln was not only the president of the United States of America, but he changed the history of America by creating an amendment to release the slaves.

In the North many people agreed that is was fair to let the slaves be free, but for the south who need slaves for picking cotton were not so happy. People in the South, called the confederates hated the idea of freeing the slaves, and this is how the Civil War started.

Throughout the duration of our country, leaders in America have worked for progress, peace, unity and have fought against injustice, especially regarding race. Two figures who were known for their persistence regarding freedom and equal rights were Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. Both lived through the Civil War and fought against slavery in their own individual way. They both strived for equality and set goals for an undivided country that would allow each citizen to share in the freedom in which America was built on. As our nation progressed and grew, some of the ambitions of Lincoln and Douglass were fulfilled but others are still being worked towards today.

Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass were brave, heroic men who spoke out for freedom and liberty. They were impactful to society not only in their generation but every generation after them. For instance, Lincoln was the key to the door when it came to preserving the union during the Civil War.
