Max is turned at last when Max comes home after ‘’the loss’’ of Ishraqi; ‘’When Max arrived home late, his mother took one look at his face and bit off the angry lecture she had been preparing. Instead, she folded her son in her arms and waited for the time he would talk to her.’’ Line 200, page 5.
The main theme in the story is that you should appreciate what you have. In the beginning Max didn’t appreciate his family or the benefits and opportunities he has. He argued with his mother and didn’t take his school serious but at the end he had an eye-opener.
A characterizing of Max would be that he has a flexible personality. Max is an annoying boy but also a really nurturing one. He doesn’t care about the people around him. In the first part of the story, the reader realizes that Max can be a free spirit and creative boy with a free and creative imagination. Max used to be a happy teenager, until his father left the whole family behind, because of that Max lost a bit of himself and he also lost his enthusiasm of participating in class, in general being a passionate student. Max is living a closed lift – it’s like he lives in his own little bubble. He is not doing anything meaningful in his life, just existing and observing. On the outside he seems like a bad guy but very deep inside he is a boy who wants to find his passion, enthusiasm and maybe love again, you see that in the last part of the story
The supposed “fire” that the two always carried with them, even if their hands were empty, the man’s acceptance that they are low on food and could run out any day, resulting in their slow and painful death from starvation, and the boy’s lack of prejudice whenever they came across a new person who could be a potential danger to their life. It’s mainly a reflection on the highest level, self-actualization, but there is also the occasional instance on them also reflecting the esteem level, depending on the perspective one would look on the instance. It shows that they have their own needs, which could very well be different that the rest of the world’s needs, which is mainly food and
“You don’t wanna go out of this world with regrets. If there’s something you want to do, do it”. After hearing this quote Peter, the over privileged boy, learns to cherish things more closely and to live his life
The internal conflict between Max and his low self esteem is first demonstrated in the very first sentence of the book which is,”Ive never had a brain until freak came along and let me borrow his for a while, and thats the truth, the whole truth.”(1). This shows that Max seems to have a low opinion of himself ,especially his intelligence. This also implies that Max is going to make a very good friend. This internal conflict is further elaborated when it is shown that Max is afraid to speak in class because his “mouth shuts up when theres more than one or two people, and a full classroom full, forget it.” (82). This shows that Max seems to be embarrassed to answer questions in class. He seems to have the mental capacity to learn in a normal school but has interfering internal and external problems that have caused him to have difficulty learning. To conclude, Max’s conflicts are primarily internal ones that are a big part of how he develops as a

These characters are quite the same in the book and the movie. In the beginning Max is bullied and is kind of an outkast. Freak/Kevin came to his new school, but he was bullied because he was Smarter and
The movie begins with Tracy, the main character, as a normal teenager whose life seems from the outside “ok”. However, even at this point in the movie, there are hints of Tracy’s inner pain and discomfort or distress with her world. Tracy lives a tough life. Her parents are separated, and do not have a good relationship. Tracy lives with her mom and brother in a suburban low to middle class neighborhood. Her mom, Mel, is a recovered addict, who works as a hair dresser. Her dad, Travis, is a somewhat rich executive, who works all the time and barely
Max is represented as an adventurous but monstrous 6 to 8 year old child with destructive behaviour. He is wearing a wolf suit as a disguise; it symbolizes a sense of development and privacy. Max's behaviour is represented in the monster picture he drew. It suggests the adventure he is about to enter is not something that is new. He could have been thinking of a fantasy world, far away from the reality of his anger at his mother, and that he has a history of destructive behaviour. Max's poor behaviour and characteristics are influenced by his mother's parenting skills and techniques. In a time of great development and growth in this phase of his childhood, Max's social development characteristics included

Taking good care of the plant, Tess's mom had allowed to plant to live healthily until the day she died. From that point on, Tessa felt like it was her responsibility to keep the plant alive; thus, she was distraught to see the plant splattered on the floor. With the help of her grandmother, Tessa repotted
The author uses dialogue and what the characters say to develop the character. The character Tutu Max is very nosey. On page 25 Sonny says “She is the nosiest” which shows that she is a very nosey person and like to put her input in conversations. .The author also uses very descriptive words like kind and soft hearted showing a different side of Tutu Max that loves for her family and friends, which really shows me the different side of Tutu Max that I could not tell from the start of the story. So in conclusion the author uses dialogue and descriptive words to develop the character Tutu Max.
The sketchbook provides him with an outlet to cope with his circumstances. Max is often found in the basement alone with nothing but his thoughts. He is able to produce this art “in the loneliest moments in the basement” (277). He wanted to write a story explaining everything he had been through leading up to where he is now. However, the thoughts all came out as something different, sketches. He found the collection of his thoughts had “felt true”(277). To Max they feel more true because they were random thoughts which he feels meaning in them. He knew that he would eventually want to share his views of the cruel world with Liesel when she is old enough. Losing everything, Max finds great significance in this sketchbook which helps him relieve emotions. Max’s use of drawing while he is in the basement helps him subsist with his unforutante turn of events. He was figuring out ways to express his feelings during this time. Illustrating and writing a story called “The Standover Man”, is how he spends most of his days. For Max the art is used as a way he can express his story to Liesel. He often finds himself still in pain from his past and scared of “standover men” in his life (225).
Bill Cosby, an American comedian, once said, “Is the glass half full, or half empty? It depends on whether you are pouring, or drinking.” Nowadays, when one mentions of Africa, picture of a continent with a vicious cycle of war, poverty and hunger immediately appears in people’s mind. Thus, over the past 50 years, millions, trillions of dollars were sent to aid Africa from developed countries, or organizations. However, poverty and hunger still remain as issues as if nothing has changed. Trying to find the core reasons to this unchanging phenomenon, Good Fortune, a movie directed by Landon Van Soest, explores the disparity between the developers’ and the native’s perspective of needs in urban Africa as well as in rural areas, while explaining riots and chaos are formed due to lack of communication.
