Shakespeare is still alive today
Today we consider Shakespeare’s relevancy in modern life.
Shakespeare was probably one of the most prominent figures in the Elizabethan era, because of the major impact he’s caused on our daily lives. Through themes and entertainment, he has shaped our future hugely. This is evident in The Merchant of Venice.
The themes that Shakespeare has put upon us include Appearance vs Reality, Anti-Semitism, Bonds of friendship along with Inequality of women, which continues even today. Shakespeare’s idea of Appearance vs Reality suggests that what we are on the outside is not always demonstration of what we are on the inside, hence the quote “All that glisters is not gold”, which appears when the Prince of Morocco judges Portia by what she is on the outside. Another example is “If you prick us, do we not bleed?”, which is shown when Salarino tries to show how what they think he is not what he really is. Anti-Semitism, otherwise known as Hostility towards Jews, is also shown throughout The Merchant of Venice, which is clear through nearly all conversations with Salarino. An example of this is “And foot me as you spurn a stranger cur”, from Shylock. This is still relevant today as racism is still a big problem. It is to be noted that Shylock is put in several lights, one of which almost shows him being a nice person through all of his hate. As I see it, this shows anti-Semitism because he is expressing what happens to a Jew and, moreover, how badly they are treated. I think bonds are also exhibited throughout the Merchant

William Shakespeare is regarded as one of the greatest poets and writers of his time and even one of the greatest ever with works such as Hamlet, Julius Caesar, and Romeo and Juliet. Although Shakespeare has been taught in schools for many years, and even all around the world, is Shakespeare's work really relevant for students in school today?
Shakespeare writes about issues that are still relevant today because his themes are universal, his plays have been updated and remade and there are various schools of thought who argue about his plays. His universal themes of vaulting and corrupting ambition, a reliance on superstition and gender tell us that the play Macbeth explored themes that are still seen in today’s society. The updated and remade film versions of Macbeth (also known as The Tragedy of Macbeth) and Macbeth (BBC’s Shakespeare’s Retold Series) tell us that people still enjoy watching the issues in Macbeth. And the various schools of thought Psychoanalytical, Feminist, and Marxism tell us that people still
“My bounty is as boundless as the sea , my love as deep ;the more I give thee, The more I have, for both are infinite.” William shakespeare’s Drama Romeo & Juliet has been questioned for its relevance and inclusion in the ninth grade curriculum. Romeo and Juliet & Juliet gives students a different way to learn what they would ,otherwise, learn off of a worksheet. Shakespeare’s beautiful enriched language has many benefits in the High School.
While many high school students believe Shakespeare is not relevant today, I believe Shakespeare and his writings are relevant because they are a good influence and they bring people and countries closer together while expanding the reader’s vocabulary.
Shakespeare once wrote, “To be, or not to be, that is the question.” (Hamlet, 3. 1. 64). This is to be considered one of Shakespeare’s most famous and used quotes. Though Shakespeare was alive and wrote many decades before our time, students are still subjected to using his works. This leaves people with the question, why? William Shakespeare’s works are still used today due to his universal themes, uncanny ability to take ideas and turn them into new and captivating wonders, and amazingly rich language.
Shakespeare is a name in theatre and history that is very well known all around for his
Shakespeare’s words are still the basis of society today. “Our doubts are traitors, and make us the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt.” These words were said in “Measure For Measure” by Lucio in Act 1, Scene 4. This quote and many others are still lived today. This quote was said when Lucio told Isabella to remove all of her doubts and use her feminine parts to get what she wants from Lord Angelo, her brother removed from his death sentence. In modern english, the quote would mean, “When you set your doubts aside, you can achieve greatness.” This quote is embodied by Charlotte Brown and The U.S. relations with Cuba. They show that Shakespeare is still relevant today.

In the American school systems, curriculum for High School English and even sometimes college literature, require that students read Shakespeare's plays. Most commonly, we read The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, and The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. Why do High Schools require that their students read Shakespeare? Why do we still care about Shakespeare? The answer lies in the human condition. The human condition is what connects all homosapeians and allows us to call ourselves Human. We experience birth, in more ways than one; we grow, on spiritual levels as well as physical; we have emotions, unlike any other creatures on earth; we show aspiration; we have conflicts with one another,
Many have heard of William Shakespeare, and many have seen or known his work without even knowing it was his. The playwright, poet, and actor was born April 23,1564. There has been a debate whether him and/or his plays and work are still relevant till this day. Shakespeare has a worldwide impact and his plays and their concept continue to illustrate the problems we are affected by today. Significantly, after first experiencing Shakespeare, many can already notice that he has the potential to speak out various emotions some cannot find words to express and experiences we encounter time to time.
Shakespeare's Irrelevance to Today's Society. Shakespeare is a very famous person; his work is loved by many people around the world. Yet many ask and wonder, should Shakespeare still be taught to 9th graders? Shakespeare is not relevant to modern teens, difficult to understand, and he is outdated. Since Shakespeare is no longer relevant to today’s society, he should not be taught to 9th graders.
Why and how is Shakespeare still relevant in our schools, and society today? Why has his poetry lasted for 400 years, and still is considered some of the greatest pieces of poetry today? Well I think he is still relevant in today’s world because his poetry is incredible, and it has created a base for many other books, movies, and other poetry, as well as been a great learning tool to teach students in High School more about the complex language he uses and the basic feelings of today’s world like love, sadness, happiness, etcetera. One of his most popular stories “Romeo and Juliet” is a prime example of a great poem to teach students. It has plenty of memorable moments in it that you can’t forget, and it is a very powerful love story that they would die for each other, or how they couldn’t live without each other.
Is teaching William Shakespeare in school relevant to kids today. in the field of literature there is a ongoing discourse about the validity and relevance of Shakespeare .With it being argued that it isn't revlevent enough to be taught to modern diverse students. Well i think teaching Shakespeare can expose students to a perspective both retable and familiar . In a letter displayed in a washington post article english teacher Matthew Truesdale defends Shakespeare being in response to another letter. Matthew claims that one of the main reasons to do a shakespeare play is being able to you read one . “i often tell my students one of the main reasons to read a shakespeare play is the privilege of telling others you've read a Shakespeare play ”Truesdale page 1 in this
William Shakespeare is one of the world 's most influential people to ever live. “BBC audience survey names Shakespeare as Britain 's Man of the Millennium.” (Andrews 2) Shakespeare’s works continue to be evident globally in modern society. Hundreds of years after William Shakespeare’s death, his influence continues to make an effect in the modern day English language, modern movies and film, and authors or artists today.
William Shakespeare's Relevance Today For as long as formal education has existed in Britain it has been a largely standard assumption that teaching the works of William Shakespeare is relevant and necessary. Perhaps the relevance of his writing is taken for granted, perhaps it is necessary to re-examine the role of Shakespeare for the modern audience. There are indeed many people who question the relevance of this 440 year old playwright to a 21st century audience, taking it even as far as perhaps the greatest heresy of all, questioning the necessity of GCSE pupils learning Shakespeare at all. This “proposed vandalism from the policymakers” (Guardian 09/02/01) is opposed wholesale by supporters
