In the past, robots were starting to come around in around the year 270 BCE. Based on the article, “Robots Long Ago”, by Karen Brinkmann, the article explains that “Every robot is a device that can carry out a complex series of actions automatically.” In other words, any object that functions actions automatically is basically a robot. On paragraph 2, it starts that “Around the year 270 BCE, a Greek scientist named Ctesibius dreamed of creating objects that would help people complete certain tasks.” he ended up, “inventing a clock that use mechanical technology to keep track of time.”

The concept of “robots” has been with humans for a long time. From the “robot-knight” plan of Leonardo da Vinci to the automatons of Jacques de Vaucanson, to the robots created by several robotics companies, people have demonstrated a fascination. The word robot came from the Czech word, “robota” which means “forced labor”. In 1921, writer Karel Capek used it in his play entitled Rossum’s Universal Robots (R.U.R.). The credit for coming up with such term, however, goes to Josef Capek, his brother. Presently, robot means a machine that performs complex actions, similar to humans or other animals; also a machine that can perform repetitive tasks, guided by automatic controls. (Shulman & Buckley, 2014).

Robots coexisting in the human world can be beneficial to many people's lives by allowing tasks to be performed at a much faster rate. By Google definition robots are “machines capable of carrying out a complex series of actions automatically, especially one programmable by a computer; (especially in Science Fiction) a machine resembling a human being and able to replicate certain human movements and functions automatically.”

You can believe those who say robots will over run the world in the future, but robots have multiple purposes that can do everything and will benefit us. The connection between the literature block and the technical block of this class created a very strong understanding between the underlying theme of robotics. A chance to read and evaluate the history of robotics through certain pieces of literature provided a sufficient amount of background knowledge to fully understand why and how robotics is highly relevant today. With technology today rapidly evolving, the technical block of this class showed us what it would take to maneuver and set parameters for a robot.

Imagine if you would not need to help Mom and Dad, carrying stuff for them or cleaning up after them! You can have a robot help you with your daily activities such as cleaning your room, washing your car, and even wiping for you once you are done using the bathroom. A robot is a machine designed to complete or carry out multiple tasks when programmed to do so. Robots play a huge role in discovery, such as Mars Curiosity Rover, that is used to observe Mar’s surface and environment. We have used Robots to study the moons surface to see what it is like and to learn more about space. We use robots today in military by using them to disarm bombs and find enemy locations. Robots will have a positive impact on our future, because robots will help us to discover more in the ocean and space, help us save lives, and aid in the military.

Over the past several decades, society has become particularly interested in robotics. Shows such as The Jetsons have forecasted the future to be a world where robotics plays an everyday role in life. In addition, it has inspired many to work towards this future. Everyday, society is getting closer and closer to this futuristic world. Robotics is a rapidly changing field that has the potential to help society in a positive way.

Recently advancements in technology are starting to show an increase in specialization and the number of robots. Service robots in 2010 sold for a combined $3.1 billion along with 500,000 personal robots sold.3 Today, the explosion in robotic technology gives reason for concern, with an example being robots helping with assisted living patients and cleaning houses. They are being introduced and accepted into current generations daily.

Earth: a place of rapidly-evolving, diverse organisms with technology so advanced that it is frightening to most people. It is truly crazy that the technology that powers robots and tangible devices/machines are as powerful as it is. In the current technological world, complex machines, including humanoid robots for example, are designed to move and do human actions.
