Good Morning, I wanted to apologize for putting Gertsma instead of Prof. L. I was following the example in My Darton Guide to Writing. It also showed the date in the same format that I used. I was seriously thinking about dropping your class during the first week because I have three other classes and couldn't take a chance on failing, but I'm glad I didn't. When I use to get your emails my stress level would rise to the sky, but now I actually look forward to your feedback. I honestly believe if I had teachers like you when I was in High School, I wouldn't be in college now at 44 trying to start a new career. Thanks Professor. Gertsma
As the semester comes to a close, it is always interesting to look back and reflect on the events and opportunities my English class has given me throughout my first semester as a whole. At the beginning of this semester it was evident that I was feeling uncomfortable due to the adjustment that I was going through as a student moving to college. It was very difficult expressing myself through my writing since I was nervous about good impressions and my good grade. While this class was one of the most difficult courses that I have taken this far, it has become quite evident to me that I have grown a substantial amount as a writer and as a person; Especially, when it came to explaining my ideas, writing academic essays, and making arguments.
Today I had an appointment with my upper division writing professor, Dr. Emily Foss. I met with her to review my coursework, and to address some concerns. The first part of the 20 minute meeting went fairly well. She had not taken the time to collect collect some early writing steps from us, not were we required to upload these steps online. There was also ambiguity about the due date of our last paper. All of those things were ironed out in fairly short order.
The past two semesters were great experiences. Within this past school year my knowledge as a reader and writer has improved. It felt like it was just yesterday, when I had a lot of difficulty writing and poor reading strategies. Now, as I said before, I am an improved writer and reader. The assignments and class activities over the two semesters were great benefits to me, and helped me make progress towards the first year learning goals.
This class has been the most challenging class thus far in my college career. There has never been a time where I have written a paper and it has been picked part so hard and every element scrutinized. I am very thankful that we have the professor that we have for this course that is very uplifting as well as critical when it comes to the assignments. I know for a fact that this class and the foundation that I have laid for the rest of my college career is
First off, I want to thank you for making this year and my first honors English experience fun for me! Though this year was challenging for me, it has also been extremely knowledgeable. From my freshman year to sophomore year, I can definitely notice the difference in my writing and reading. I can definitely see how much I have grown, and I am sure you could see these improvements too. Last year, I was in regular English and jumping from regular to honors was a huge step for me, which at first, I was not fully comfortable with. But as I got to know this year’s class and of course you, Mrs. Walker, I felt like I belonged here, in an honors English class. Throughout this year, I have learnt and improved at my skills of properly annotating texts, writing a proper claim, analyzing author’s style, and also analyzing rhetorical situations.
If I had a time travel machine, I would love to go back to our class’s first meeting. It was such a memorable day. I was so nervous that my first piece of writing seemed less than mediocre as I reflected on what I had written that day. While being happy that my name was randomly chosen to be added to the class, I was very scared of this class. The last time I wrote an essay was two years ago, and before this class I had forgotten how to write one. I believe good writing requires lots of practice, and I have not practiced my writing for a long time. In addition, my reading was not even up to par since I only read books required for my classes. I did not
I had an appointment with my English class professor at 10am on September 21st. My English professor is Cathy Corder; I am taking her class ENGL 1301. In her class, students usually need to set a conference with her to discuss their draft for their writing assignment. Therefore, the purpose of my appointment for this time is to revise my essay and learn writing strategies from my professor.
We often think that when life doesn’t go our way that the universe is against us, that the blame for our situation belongs only to the stars that aligned against our favor, and we resent the cruel, unknown force that takes responsibility for the unfortunate position in which we find ourselves. This resentment is something I felt for most of my time in high school; I was mad at the world for throwing me into a mean town with meaner people.
Thank you to all the students, professors, and my coach for your support, encouragement, and feedback. As I previously stated in my introductory post, I love read but hate to write, which was probably not the best words to say entering an English class, but with your support, not only have I made it through this course, but I have also enjoyed the journey.
I am glad to be teaching by you this semester, which adds another experience in my life. I know it is required to do evaluation online after each course, but I think it is better for me and for the improvement of this course, to send you this email. I think it will be easier for you to understand my opinion when you know who wrote it, than when you do not know. Maybe this is not normal for American culture, but please allow me to use my own culture which recommend us to talk directly to someone if you have a divergence of opinion and not use unanimous document.
It is my pleasure to write this letter to all of you and tell you how wonderful this College 100 class is. When I first came to college, I didn’t know how to study correctly or techniques on how to take good notes. After learning it with Mr. Carr, I realized that it is important to understand these basic things in college so that when you take other classes, you would get confused on anything.
This is my second time taking this class. I thought I understand the class, but I guess I didn’t fully understand it. I definitely know I need to what on my grammar and punctuation. I’m worried about taking this class again because I fail it once, but this time I know I got to put more work in. I should know what to expect, but with anything new it's always some anticipation. This time around I will read all my assignment and try to give myself enough time to get my assignments done. It was a very insinterste class and I enjoyed it a lot. I know how I drop the ball with my last class. My uncle went into the hospital on a Sunday for what he thought was a strep throat We found out a few days later that he had throat cancer
I am writing to you in hopes that you will add an extra ten points to my semester grade. I strongly believe that I deserve these extra points, for putting my hard work and effort into this first semester. With all the different assignments and short amount of time you have given my classmates and I, most of us tend to or try to turn it in on time maybe a little later depending on the assign work.
I hope you are having a great weekend! If you are still willing to allow me to observe your classroom regarding growth mindset, I would like to set up a time to come in. I am available on Monday, September 25 until 12:30 p.m. or Wednesday, September 27 until 1:00 p.m. Would either of those times work for you? If not, I am on fall break in mid October, so I can come in at a time you prefer. I apologize for my limited availability!
I admire you and appreciate you as a friend and professor. I come to hang out with you at the coffee shop not to borrow or bug you for some pocket cash to borrow. I come because I want to spend time with you and I see you as a person with tons of wisdom and Mentor characteristics. I do not know how you will respond to this letter, but you have the right to respond or feel anyway you wish and those will be your own reactions and feelings. However, I am completely frustrated and these are some of the reasons why I have missed class. First, today with your comments made in class about students walking in late, not coming to class or not having their books with them. I sense you were talking about me and if you have, any issues with me please address me personally and not use innuendos to get your point to the entire class to try to embarrass me because it does not work. Second, every one of your students in British Literature II are San Antonio College Students. They are no longer in high school. These students have completed Composition I and Composition II to be in the British Literature II class. Third, what is frustrating the heck out of me is when you compare these students in their high schools or high school days. It should not it matter what high schools these students came from. What matters is there are here in college and want to learn. Fourth, yes, it is true that the students that come from a wealthier background and their parents that have earned a higher
