I am glad to be teaching by you this semester, which adds another experience in my life. I know it is required to do evaluation online after each course, but I think it is better for me and for the improvement of this course, to send you this email. I think it will be easier for you to understand my opinion when you know who wrote it, than when you do not know. Maybe this is not normal for American culture, but please allow me to use my own culture which recommend us to talk directly to someone if you have a divergence of opinion and not use unanimous document. The first point I observe is a negative appreciation of my person. It seem like you had some prejudges about my person, I don’t know if that was about all students, but I notice that
III. We all have been personally affected by a teacher at some point in our lives. Whether it is
8. Do you ever feel that you become too attached to students, or make things too personal?
As a Speaking Fellow, the feedback that one provides to their student can significantly affect the student’s motivation and domain identification. Constructive feedback appears most effective when it communicates high standards for performance while assuring the student that they are able to meet those standards. As mentors we can play active roles in eradicating stereotype threat by appreciating the diversity of our students, and embracing their contrasting identities.
“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, . . . do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”(U.S. Constitution.) The very first paragraph of the United States Constitution leaves the reader feeling inspired, hopeful, and patriotic. The introduction truly is a solid introduction as it not only engages the reader with a hook, but also provides a list of the objectives they hope to accomplish through their document. As for the objectives I hope to accomplish through this document; I hope to provide a thoughtful and logical review of Article I of the United States Constitution from the perspective of a typical American high school student.
With that been said, through the semester my experience and my views of people who are different form me has changed. I am not saying that I’ve changed, but, my learning about other people gave me different look of who they think of me. Personally I’ve always treated everyone the same, and this course is about fairness and justice for everyone. As the course progressed I engaged more eager to learn about those issues more from different prospective, especially from the white students that don’t have the same experience as the others like black or Hispanic. Furthermore, there were things that were ambiguous to me that I learned mostly, were social and economic issues, for example the divide that exist between the poor and rich, also racism and its roots and the connection between capitalism and racism was unknown to me.
When students feel excluded or not part of, academic achievement decreases (Brown, 2007). The importance of a positive student-to-teacher relationship is critical in order for students to succeed and find themselves fit in the world of academia (Anderson, Nelson, Richardson, Web, & Young, 2011). Interestingly, the data gathered from this study is consistent with previous research on barriers to student achievement. Anderson et al., (2011) goes on to suggest that there is a direct correlation between student behavior, positive or negative, and the teacher’s relationship with a student. When considering this, it must be understood that the relationship between the student and teacher, whether positive or negative, contribute to students’ academic outcomes and sense of belonging.
Hope you're doing well? We've been crazy busy so I wanted to touch base with you on a few things.
University of Central Florida possesses a plethora of devoted students in numerous areas of academics. To truly understand the amount of devotion students have, it is best to examine a document explaining a report of some extracurricular activities students contend in. However, this assignment will go beyond just examining the surface of the document as it will also take an in depth look of the style, tone, and tools used to emphasize the dedication of the individuals involved.
I learned a very important concept through this course which is called the self- fulfilling prophecy. In the education system, the self-fulfilling prophecy is important to understand because some teachers may use it. The expectations teachers have about their students influence how they behave toward them, which influences the student’s motivation and performance. The article by Riley & Underleider (2008) talked about how the self-fulling prophecy can have a long period effect on students (p.384). As a future practicing teacher, I learned, encouraging high expectations for all students especially students with exceptional needs is important. Even if the student has not met all the expectations at least as a teacher you know you tried.
However, the undramatic leap others would make when it came to their impressions of me without actually knowing me wasn’t flattering in the least. Teachers whom classes I wasn’t even enrolled in would cast judgment on me because of the people I had around me. They assumed I did not care about school or that I was not one to pay intention in class, their obvious disapproval of my person showing through the very pores of their face.
Hi Gemechu, I really appreciate your comment, and I do not want to start without saying thank you for sharing us this best advice. As I realized from your comment, it is better not to judge a person before you really know his or her attitude and personality. Sometimes we all rush and judge a person just without a reasons and finally when we get close to them, they are totally different. I know the reason that made you to make the self-serving bias error is because you did not expect the tattoos, earrings, and long hairs from one teacher. But, the good thing is you already got a lesson from that error, and you will not make an error to judge for a person.
Introduction A. Attention Getter: Have you ever been in a class where the teacher says something along the lines of that wasn't very nice of you or do you think thats something you should be doing? B. Focus: Well the reason they say these things is because their job isn’t just to teach you academics.
In the midst of today’s Tête-à-tête exercise I learned that when two people employ in a conversation not only do you discover new information about that person you discover something new about that person but you discover something new about yourself. I realized numerous new things about my kindred schoolmates pertaining to our likes and dislikes on topics. The majority of my classmates amazed me in a way. Outstandingly when asked about her thoughts on Millennium, Ciarra responded by saying that she thought this school is superior compared to most schools. She also said she wished Millennium would have more programs to make the school more appealing. As opposed to me saying I have animosity towards Millennium Art Academy. In all honesty, I
Throughout the two week placement, the strategies I have used for building relationships have continued to change and develop. As a result of discussions and seminars I decided in the best interests for the class to try to acknowledge positive behaviour instead of negative. By acknowledging negative and disrespectful behaviour, I would spend a considerable amount of time focusing on those students. Students
