This summer I read an amazing book called Heat by Mike Lupica. This was an awesome book because it had a lot of action and detail in the book, I never wanted to put it down. The protagonist in the book Heat was Michael and he was faced by many conflicts and in the end he always found out a way to get through all the rough times in his life. Michael came from Cuba on a boat to the United States with his dad and his brother so they could try to start a better life in the United States. Michaels Dad dies at a young age in a fight leaving Michael and his brother Carlos by themselves. For two years they lived by themselves without anybody finding out That Michael's Dad died. They didn’t wanted anyone to find out until Carlos turned eighteen and
This book is written by Gary Paulsen. It takes place in the Canadian wilderness, where Brian Robeson’s, who is 13 yrs. Old, plane crashes. Brian shows a lot of determination and strength, to be able to survive in the wilderness, with no one else.
This book, called is about a survival story of young boy, Brian. Before I read this, just looking title on its cover, I've thought it may be about a murder case because hatchet is a kind of an ax. So I was a bit frightened and start this book with anxiety. However, the book was about a young boy whose name is Brian Robeson and he had left alone in Canadian wilderness owing to an accident.
Brian Robeson a 13-year-old boy from New York is the main character of Hatchet by Gary Paulson. The reason Brian is making this plane trip to Canada is because his parents had recently become divorced. His parents’ splitting is the main cause of his instability. At first Brian shows us his fear, frustration and anger. By the end of his experience of being in the wilderness most of those characteristics had changed. Brian does not only learn lessons about survival in the wilderness but life in general.
First and foremost, the story “Hatchet” has a significant turning point. Brian was flying in a plane to meet his father in the oil fields of Northern Canada when the pilot had a heart attack. Because the pilot had a heart attack, Brian was forced to crash land the plane. Then Brian landed in the wilderness and has to survive with a 2 dimes, a quarter, 2 pennies, a nickel, a hatchet his mother gave him, and himself. Brian will have to make serious choices in order to survive this frantic turning point in “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen. At first Brian thinks that he can't do anything and that he is weak, but later on in the story he figures out that he is his most important asset and that encourages him to survive this tragic event.
The book I chose to do was If We Survive by Andrew Klavan. This book starts off with Will, Meredith, Nicki, and Jim- four high school students who decide to go to Costa Verdes with Pastor Ron to rebuild a schoolhouse that had been destroyed by Los Volcanoes. Brian Robeson in Hatchet is just a normal thirteen year old child who is living a difficult life. His parents are divorced and he has to split time between his mom and his dad. Brian is just visiting his dad up in Canada when the worst thing ever happens. The pilot has a heart attack while flying the plane. Luckily the pilot taught Brian a little about flying before he died. Brian has to just keep moving on with his life which is the theme in this book. He has to keep moving forward in many cases from the crash, learning how to survive, and natural causes, then getting used to life again.
Have you ever been stranded by yourself in the wild? Well in the book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen Brian got stranded. Brian couldn't have done it if he didn't have food. I think the two most important Ah Ha moment is when the figured out which way his father was.
The book I'm writing about is called Stupid Fast. It's about a teenage boy who learns that he has became bigger then he feels. The people who he used to make fun of have now become his friends. He tries to understand why his family is so crazy. Then in the end he gets told about who his dad really was and everything starts to make more sense.
The protagonist of Hatchet by Gary Paulsen is Brian Robeson, a thirteen-year-old boy from New York. The setting of this book is the northern Canadian wilderness. At the beginning of the book, Brian is going on a plane from New York to Canada to visit his father after he and Brian’s mother got divorced. The divorce and “The Secret” that Brian’s mother is having an affair plagues Brian for the majority of the book. As the pilot of the plane is flying them over the Canadian wilderness, the pilot has a heart attack and the plane crashes into a large lake. Brian survives, but the plane has sunk in the lake. Brian is injured and has no food. He eventually finds a bunch of strange berries and eats them, but they end up making him sick. He then finds a large amount of raspberries and spots a bear while he is there. He makes a shelter, but in the middle of the night, a porcupine wanders into his shelter and Brian throws his hatchet at it. It shoots quills into his leg and runs off.
Henry Hill was just the average kid growing up. He had a job parking cadillacs for Paulie and went to school just like all of the other kids. He always wanted to be a gangster growing up. Henry stopped going to school and started working for Paulie. When he worked for Paulie he was doing illegal acts; robbing money from vehicles at the airport, selling cigarettes off the street, and killing.
Brian's winter it is a book about a kid that goes to see his dad in Canada because his parents are divorced and every summer he sees his dad on a private plane. On the the trip things go very bad. Brian was a 15 year old boy and was ready to fly to Canada to see his dad. Brian was with his mom all year and only got to see his dad in the summer . It was finally to for Brian to get on the plain and see his dad. While Brian is talking to the pilot Brian notices something weird about him , he had his hand over his chest and in pain gasping for air. Brian realized that he was having a heart attack. Before Brian could even think the pilot was dead. As plane crashes into a lake Brian swims out of the lake
The documentary Forks Over Knives is one of the most interesting yet informational films I have seen regarding health and society today and I was intrigued since the second I turned it on. It made it so much easier to understand and conceptualize because the film followed patients and documented their success stories; you were forced to believe in its truth. I found it to be inspirational and motivational.
Nathan Nuttboard by John Eaton (2002) is a story that has a substantial amount of action and emotional content. This novel is definitely not a boring book. It has short chapters and is a good, interesting read right to the end. This book is about a young boy named Nathan That goes on a family camping trip to a place could paradise bay, while they are there they are faced with some critical situations, valuable lessons, and some harsh conditions. In paradise bay they had a sticky situation which occurred because of a couple events which kept escalating. This book was very relevant to me because I like to surf and this novel showed how quickly something could evolve which may result in a near death situation.
